Our 2009 Disney vacation. I've been putting off the trip report and really need to get moving on it before our return trip in August!

Cast for the June trip.

Me (sherabby)
DS (the one who gets sick first!)
DH
and here we are:

Yes, DH had a matching shirt. He didn't wear it that day.

June 21st Father's Day
Southwest Airlines flight arrival time 9:30am. We arrive around 9:10am!
Off to grab our luggage and get our rental car from National.
Quick stop to grab some breakfast groceries, water and a quick lunch at Wendy's.

Arrival at the Caribbean Beach Resort! We arrived sometime around noon and our room was ready! Boy was I ever suprised to find out that we were in room 2628 Martinique and never even paid for a preferred room! Bonus!

We unpacked and hit the pool before our early dinner at the Garden Grill.

After our meal at the Garden Grill we did call it an early night because we were all up so early. We wanted to get up early the next day and hit TSM!!!

We arrived right at opening and booked it to TSM. The line was already 50 minutes long and ds started complaining that his belly was hurting. DH got us fastpasses and I took him to the restroom.

DS does not like DHS very much. He has a fear of fire and refuses to ride or see anything with fire in it. Also he claims he was shot during the Great Movie Ride gangster scene on his first visit so he is afraid of that one as well.

DH went to ride Rock N Roller Coaster while we walked around. There was not much for us to do since he won't go on the rides that were opened. We ended up waiting for the Animation theatre to open and we were first in line to see the UP characters!

We also wore our UP shirts that we got at the Disney store. When I get my photo pass cd I'll upload those as well.
Next ds complained about his belly again and we went to stand in line to meet Prince Caspian.

This is DS's favorite photo from our trip.
Next it was fastpass time for TSM! We never rode this during our last trip and boy did we miss out!
6493_1127571703549_1054881684_30332885_3316880_n.jpg

Next it was a quick service lunch at the backlot express and off to see The American Idol Attraction. We really enjoyed the show and I wished that I tried out just for fun!

The temps this day reached 99 and you can already tell that ds was starting to not feel very well.

The park was a bit crowded because it was a Fantasmic Night at DHS. We had another early dinner reservation at 50's Prime Time. We arrived about 10 minutes early and we only had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated. We had a tv at our table and if I remember correctly our server's name was Uncle Dale? I have photos below so if I am wrong someone please correct me!
Waiting for our table

DS loved to taunt our server by sitting on his legs! He also didn't clean his plate but he still got dessert anyway!

After dinner ds wanted to go back to CBR and swim. It was so hot that I really didn't want to argue with him. Back to the pool again!

I didn't realize that you could see the fireworks that closely from the pool!

We arrived at MK just in time for rope drop in tomorrowland. Buzz was our first ride of the day and we got fastpasses for later in the day.

No luck pulling out the sword this trip!

I think we rode this about 10 times this trip! T-shirts thanks to Kelly on the DIS boards.
Next we had lunch at Cosmic Rays and back to more rides and a hair cut!

I took so many pictures this trip again....as usual!

Haircut time!
We waited almost an hour to get his haircut. He also wanted a Mickey.

I decided to join in the fun and got a trim and a Mickey to match!
This is one of my favorite photos! We also had one like this on our photopass where we were up in the train station looking at the Castle and the cm took the photo of the back of our heads looking at the Castle....another nice shot!

DS would not go on POTC last year due to the drop. This year we finally convinced him to go back on...this is his reaction before the ride:
6493_1127566983431_1054881684_30332771_7779089_n.jpg

This is when I realize that my camera battery was about dead. We had dinner at CRT and no battery life left! Guess who spent $17 on a disposable camera? Yep! I didn't want to miss out on any of those pictures. When I get them developed I'll get them posted.
Our dinner at CRT was very good. DS started to show signs of not feeling well and was starting to get cranky. It had started raining after dinner and we decided to go back to the resort. We were lucky enough to get to ride in the front cab. Little did we know that this would be our final time. My camera battery had a tiny bit of life left in it and I took these:

Day Four

We all woke up very early as we had a very busy day planned. DH was off to Universal Studios and IOA for the day. We got him a one day ticket for his birthday. He loves thrill rides and he had a very good time there....he was really wore out after that day and I think that was the day he picked up a virus or summer cold.

DS and I had a breakfast reservation at Crystal Palace at 8:20 and then we were going to spend the day at Typhoon Lagoon. We decided to use the bus this morning and not drive to the TTC.
6493_1127567423442_1054881684_30332779_5965926_n.jpg

We were hoping to see an empty am park but there were so many people there waiting for their breakfast reservations that it really wasn't empty at all.

6493_1127571823552_1054881684_30332888_6255228_n.jpg

The meal was awesome and the puffed french toast was my favorite. My grandmother used to make those when I was a very young girl. It did take me a while to find them since they were on the children's buffet.
Next we took the bus back to the resort and made our way to Typhoon Lagoon. It wasn't too crowded yet...we arrived around 10am.
Sorry no pictures here except for photopass. I'll post those again when the disk arrives. We had our lunch here and I was a bit upset to learn that they don't do the ice cream treats any longer for desserts. I guess it was getting to be too much trouble with people coming back later to get them. We always did that and used it as an afternoon snack.

This was the day that DS started to not feel well and around 2pm he asked if we could go back to the resort and swim. I should have known something was wrong. We did go back and he swam for a while longer.

That night he and I had dinner reservations at T-Rex. This would be our first time trying it. I was still so full from our big breakfast and lunch that I only had an appetizer for dinner! DH ordered a chicken dinner. I guess I never did mention that ds has multiple food allergies. He is allergic to dairy, peanuts, tree nuts, fish (severe!) and shellfish. We have a chef to the table for every meal and we have never had any issues.

After dinner we took a walk and found this:

It was right after this photo that ds told me that his throat was hurting. We were going to go to DQ but he said he wanted to go back to CBR. He also had a fever. There went our night and the start of some pretty slowed down days.

DS got up and still felt a little bit warm. Good thing we brought the Motrin and Tylenol.

I forgot to post that we did Build A Dino the night before and he really likes his new addition:

6493_1127568063458_1054881684_30332795_2602987_n.jpg

We had a late start to the day and arrived at Epcot around 10am.
6493_1127567543445_1054881684_30332782_7795322_n.jpg

Because it was so hot and he had a fever we tried to stay inside as much as we could. I didn't want to push him to much.
We did Where's the Fire and our team won!
6493_1127567583446_1054881684_30332783_305036_n.jpg

He really liked the Piggy Bank Adventure and wanted to do it a second time.

I asked him if he wanted to ride Nemo and he said no so we just snapped a quick photo.
6493_1127567943455_1054881684_30332792_660131_n.jpg

DH had gone to get some fastpasses to Soarin. DH has never been on it....well I hate to admit....I've never been on it yet either! We had a few hours to wait to ride and ds started complaining about the heat and not feeling well again.
6493_1127567983456_1054881684_30332793_596196_n.jpg

I took him back to the resort for lunch. He had a special pizza made for him with no cheese (dairy allergy) and I had a meatball sandwich. It was pretty good. The nice thing about eating in the food court is that you can get a dessert in the grab and go market so those krispie mickey heads are a dessert! DS always gets the Divies if they are available.

DH stayed at Epcot and used the three fastpasses to Soarin. Lucky him!
DS and I actually took a nap. I didn't think that I was going to fall asleep so luckily the noise from next door woke me up in time for our dinner meal. Whoever was in our next room was screaming at their children to take a nap and there were two very young children screaming and crying. They woke up my son. I was actually starting to fear for those children with all the screaming. The father wanted them to take a nap and they were fighting him. I did mention the noise to a CM when we went back to Port Royal.

I also asked the CM on duty about medical care since I had a feeling this fever was not going to go away. You could tell his throat was hurting by the way he was talking. We could either go to an urgent care or have a doctor to the room. We had a few minutes to pick up a few gifts to take home for grandma and grandpa and then it was off to dinner at the Grand Floridian.
1900 Park Fare.

6493_1127568783476_1054881684_30332813_898751_n.jpg

After dinner ds and I went back to Downtown Disney. I thought we could try DQ. DH went back to the resort. He was very drained from his day at US/IOA. We had some time before the Motrin would start to wear off.
6493_1127568863478_1054881684_30332815_7173276_n.jpg

I had never been to DQ before. Boy did some of those old arcade games bring back memories! DS didn't feel like trying the bumper cars but they really looked like fun. The lines were not too bad either. We did try the interactive pinball game and ds came in first place! I came in third.
We only stayed for about an hour and ds started to get tired again. Off to bed early. 5 days and we had not seen any parades or Wishes yet!

DS woke up feeling very bad this morning. He said his throat hurt so bad that he felt like he was going to throw up. It never happened and I finally managed to get some Motrin into him.
First phone call was to our Trip Insurance to see if they would cover a doctor visit to the room. Yes...they claim they would with the proper paperwork.

One visit to the room from a doctor..... $250!!!!

Thank goodness for Trip Insurance. They did reimburse us for the $250 plus his prescription, cough drops, vicks and another bottle of Motrin!

The doctor arrived to the room around 9:15am. By that time the Motrin kicked in and he was jumping on the bed....not approved by mom of course!

Diagnosis....ear infection. DS has had his share of ear problems. Two sets of ear tubes due to those darn seasonal allergies. We never did a strep test since the antibiotic for the ears would also take care of the throat.

Doc said that he may have picked up the bacteria infection in the pool. Some strains do not die with chemicals and especially in the 99 degree heat.

Next stop Walgreens to pick up the meds. It was well after 12 noon before we received his prescription and gave him his first dose.

Back to the resort for lunch and to put the prescription into the fridge. This time I had a grilled chicken sandwich and ds had a burger in a sand pail. Dh got the meatball sandwich. Another Mickey Krispie treat for dessert!!!!!!
DS got the Divies jelly beans!

DS was feeling a bit better and we decided to go to DHS again. I really wanted to see the parade since last summer it rained so hard the day we were at DHS they never even had the parade.
Waiting for the parade...while I sat in the hot sun.

DS's favorite characters are the Incredibles. His autograph book cover had the Incredibles on it and they just loved it.
6493_1127569063483_1054881684_30332820_734971_n.jpg

We went to the American Idol attraction again and dh went back to the coaster. Someone from Pittsburgh won the show that we went to see!

6493_1127569103484_1054881684_30332821_4039140_n.jpg

DS really enjoyed WCC last summer so we wanted to try it again. It didn't dissapoint.

The medicines we not working fast enough because his ear was starting to hurt.
6493_1127569223487_1054881684_30332824_5327470_n.jpg

But when the ketchup arrived it didn't seem to bother him any longer!
We missed the large ketchup cutout that they had last year.

The doctor did tell us that he was not contagious with an ear infection. DH on the other hand was very contagious as he passed his cold along to me on the way home.
DH was now not feeling well and went back to the room to rest.
DS and I used the golf coupon in our packet and went to Winterland/Summerland.

We did end up going to MK that night to watch Spectro and had great seats right on the sidewalk under the train station. DS was too tired to stay for Wishes.

Great trip report and picspopcorn::. I am so sorry to hear your DS was sick and I can totally sympathize. My DD wound up with strep and a double ear infection during our trip in Jan 2008. We took her to the urgent care recommended by the resort and thankfully Disney provided us with a free shuttle there and back.

Considering that he had an ear infection and maybe strep he did pretty well and we just kept going at a slow pace.

Wow!! What a trooper your son is!! What a good Mom you are!!! So many times I've read trip reports where vacations come to a complete halt when a child gets sick, but your plan of letting him lead the way and set the pace he could handle was great!!

Just curious if you had the disney trip insurance or if it was through a different carrier?

Looking forward to more and I hope your August trip is without any illnesses!!:goodvibes

Can't wait to read the rest of your trip report! Sounds like ours! Fevers, heat and slow days!

Thanks for reading. Mine is more of a photo story than a trip report. I'm still in disbelief that we are going back again so soon! I'm so excited all over again! I'll just be using this thread for both trip reports. This time I am taking ds to the doctor before we leave to make sure his ears are healed. I just pray his cast comes off in time so he can swim. He fractured his wrist at a family picnic playing volleyball on July 19th. He never acted like it hurt much so we just figured it was sprained or sore. He fell on the same wrist on Tues and then I took him to Urgent Care for an x-ray. 4 weeks in a cast and summer baseball is over for him.

OH NO!!!! I hope he heals quickly! And I'm jealous you're going back so soon. I think it's going to take a couple of years to convince my family to go back. I promised that next time we'd fly and we'd go in February:rotfl:

My mom decided to come with us and that really helps since she will help share the cost of the room. Our air tickets are being paid for with Southwest credits earned from our first trip. Our ticket prices went way down and I grabbed the credit. It is only costing me $8 to fly both of us down and back! Well we actually paid for it the first time around though.

I was so lucky to snag a reservation again at CBR! I went online at 5am one morning when I could not sleep and bam it was available!
