Disney Fantasy Eastern Caribbean December 14 2013

No cost -- as of now! :thumbsup2

I got a bib at the start, a medal at the finish and a "magical moments" certificate delivered later to the room.

I think you can buy 5k shirts now in the store.

The path is a bit boring, but I guess they are limited because they want a more stable run surface (i.e. pavement) and don't want us interfering with folks who might be trying to get to excursions, getting off boat, etc.

The only negative to it is that you are far from the boat at the finish (it ends at the bike rental place). I ended up just parking myself on some beach chairs afterwards and my family met me there (avoiding having to go back to the ship). Of course, then the KONK COOLER guy comes around...... :sad2: and you are hot, sweaty and they look so good....:sad2: BE STRONG...GRAB THE WATER THEY OFFER INSTEAD!!! ;)

Our last cruise I watched some of the race but this time I plan to participate even though I am not a great runner. I'm trying to think of a way to get the kids to sign up as well.

Yeah...I am not much of a runner myself. But if you guys happen to run by Cookie's BBQ Buffet as I am sitting there, I will certainly cheer you on!!!!:goodvibes

:rotfl2::lmao: Oh so funny. Del said he is gonna do it. We can eat our burgers and wave:wave2:....:rotfl: DH(Del) said he can run it in about 25-30 so about 7.5 MIN MILE. If there is someone who is close to that, he will run with ya!

:rotfl2: You guys are funny!

Your hubby will be a blurr as he passes me by! :) I'm a slow runner. I keep telling folks all the time I'm a JOGGER, not a RUNNER. ;)

BTW, Norma I saw your message about the airfare. I've had sticker shock too. Hoping when Jet Blue releases them, they will be cheaper, but probably not by much. Their fall rates aren't great right now anyhow. :confused3

Cool! It was fun to have a good sized group last time!
It's TOTALLY TOTALLY low-key. I've been quite the slug this winter, so I'm hoping the warm weather will help get my butt back into gear! :yay:

Beth, I am hoping and waiting on the same thing., I just think it might be pricey because it is near Christmas. Here's hoping they hear our cry of "CHEAP, WE WANT CHEAP!!!!!":goodvibes

Hello Mousekateers! I have been away for a while, life swallows you whole when you least expect it...

I have enjoyed the past month's posts, the photos send by all, esp. Michelle's "Time Line" and I am happy to hear about the 5k Run too. Well, not for ME, that is, as I still can't walk without a cane one year after the initial surgery, and having some work on the knee next week, so I'll be in the cheering section :) My son and daugther are considering the race however. (My son, a high school and college football player, still runs at 25, but not regularly. When i asked him he said, "well, I will think about it. Not sure I WANT to run when i'm on vacation, mom!" Do you register on the boat, and what time do they do this run? are spectators really allowed?

I have another question for "ya'll".
recently there was discussion about sign out privlidges for kids. Is this an option for the teens too? I am not comfortable letting my nephews wander the ship on thier own, so I am hoping that they can be signed in and out by us in their age groups' area. They will be 14 and 16 when we sail, but very immature and I'd rather them not leave a supervised area. I'd also like to have some grown up time too, without kids in tow from time to time!

Hope everyone is having a good evening, staying safe and home in from the cold, snow, rain, or whatever mother nature bestowed on your doorsteps!

Once they are 11 and in the edge or 12 (if ur child still chooses the club at 12 over the edge) they don't sign in and out but come and go as they please. So 14 and 16, nope no babysitter..too old for that!!

Good Morning !! Hey Robin , Norma and I are planning our transportation back from the Port to MCO(Orlando airport) when we return from the cruise. We are considering renting minibus with 14 of us we have room to accomidate 10 /12 more people along with us. Is there anyone interested who would love to split the cost and in turn it saves you from spending $30 one way per person using Disney transportation. If we get a full bus of 24/25 it will run APPROXIMATELY $15 A PERSON!!!! Anyone interested.??? I have it reserved already. First to commit get to join our fun party bus...ok maybe crying bus cause we are leaving the Fantasy.;)

My two sons were just that age when we took them on their first Disney cruise. I had some initial hesitation about allowing them full run of the ship, but they joined in the activities with others their age and both they and I really enjoyed our cruise. They roamed the ship a couple of times in a pack with other youths, and I hope they didn't annoy other cruisers, but I find the teens on a Disney cruise to be a pretty well behaved bunch and the crew to be attentive to seeing that they don't get too out of hand. There are so many fun activities to do as a group and it would quickly become boring for them to wander alone, so I don't see that as too big a worry. On more recent cruises with a 19 year old teen the wave phones were a great tool for monitoring his activities and location. I don't know if your concerns are for how they will behave, or if you have worries about strangers onboard - while those are legitimate concerns I find the closed environment of a Disney cruise ship to be within my comfort zone for safety.

Of course, only you know the personalities of the young people you will be traveling with and their ability and willingness to obey rules you set up for them onboard. I hope you can find a comfortable balance that allows everyone to have a great vacation.

I would love for your nephews to meet my son at some point--he will be 15 when we cruise and would love to have some other teen boys to hang out with.

My husband and I plan to do this, we can walk a 5K in less than an hour, but we have been working through the Couch to 5K program. The weather has really curtailed our training, so we'll start again when it improves. I am trying to get my kids to do it too, but they just don't love the idea of getting up "early" for anything. Maybe if they discover they get off the ship earlier that will inspire them.

What time would the minibus leave for the airport?

Also do you have any idea what the max number of rooms we'd have on the fish extender when you do a split?

As for the mini bus....probably 9 am. Maybe 9:30. I imagine I can make the time for whenever we want. I won't be in any hurry to get off the boat....lol.

The FE....well the goal is not to have more then 30-35. Right now we have like 26 so not splitting at this time. Did you have an amount that was more conducive for you???

The amount doesn't matter. I was just wanting an idea so I can start planning.

Let me talk to my husband about the mini bus. Sounds like a good idea to me!

Thank you for your advice, I really appreciate it! They are good boys, I am sure they would do just fine, but It's a big ship and this is all new to them. They have only been with my husband and I for 18 months, and this will be their first vacation ever. They both have ADHD and have a long history of neglect and abuse, so they are still somewhat socially awkward and shy. If left on their own they would probably stay in the stateroom all day and watch movies or play video games by themselves. I really want them to have a good experience on this vacation and interact with other kids. I forgot about the wave phones, that and some more seasoned traveling peers might just be what they need!

I definitely would love for them to meet my son (will be 15). This will be our second Disney cruise, and he enjoyed hanging out in the tween club quite a bit last time. I'm a bit nervous this time for him to be in the teen club, I am hoping he will find some boys his age to connect with.

make sure u bring them to the DIS meet. As long as others bring their teens , it is a lot easier for some with social challanges to have the parents there kinds saying, Hi .... this is .... Give him a call and he will meet ya in the club. then kinda tell them to sit somewhere and u'll be back and maybe they will chat since they all they have:) My DD made and awesome friend and her twin in Feb and they are dieing being away from each other and they both have ADHD so I get all the cautiousness.

Hey Tiffany,
Robin and I chatted and Beth made a good point on FB that we don't have air and it might be price beneficial for us to stay over Sunday. We are keeping the mini bus reserved for now. We will know more come July but I am assuming that like us people will reserve things that can be cancelled come summer. We will let everyone know by Aug/Sept whether we are taking the bus. Sorry for any problem this causes....We still would like people to "think" of joining us if the option is available.
