Disney Fantasy 11/5/17

That is the primary reason I will NOT even think of attempting the mega-ship thing out of NY or NJ. Yes, on occasion I ponder trying one. But the thought of that many people on a ship is terrifying enough for me (I can escape to my apartment or a few other "quieter" spots when it gets to be too much living here) - the thought of that many people just like what I deal with every day AND being stuck on a ship with them...just, NO!

I wasn't talking about the mega-ships. I was talking about the Disney Magic!! Those Disney cruises out of NY (we've done two) are packed!! And lots of stereotypes on board! :-)

Even the Breakaway inaugural year early June cruise was not as bad as either of the Magic cruises. Probably had to do with A LOT more kids on board Disney with not such great supervision.

Gotcha.

As a teacher, those never fit into my schedule so the megas are my only options the times I can cruise. That means that all the kids are on break too. OY!!!!

Glad I saw this thread! The 11/10/18 cruise was $300 less than the 11/3 cruise. Was able to reserve the same category and stateroom.

The Westerns do tend to be cheaper across the board - I assume port fees are less or maybe they just arent as popular since they go to Mexico and have one less sea day..? I've also cruised during Jersey week and aside from hearing the accent all over I didn't notice much else. People were pushy but nothing compared to a 3 night cruise..! It DID feel more crowded in the public areas of the ship - there were a lot of kids but the adult areas were the same as the other cruises we've been on if not a little less crowded honestly. I was really tempted to go that week too but my husband just doesn't have the vacation time. I hope you have fun!

Does anybody know what is going on during the Fantasy Eastern Caribbean cruise on 11/5/17? We usually go during this time every year, but most staterooms on this sailing have been unavailable for months now. Can't believe it is all sold out, since this is often a low time on the ship. Thanks for any info!

The Fantasy cruise is 11/04/2017.

There are balcony cabins available (and if you need an accessible cabin, there is still an oceanview and a balcony cabin - I cancelled the accessible balcony cabin and it hasn't been snapped up yet).

I just wish the people from the tri-state area had more self awareness that they are not the only people on board and there are enough amenities to go around.

Well, *technically* it's also 11/5/17. ;)

But if you're searching any travel site to look at prices, there is no Fantasy cruise that will be listed for 11/5/17 - which might be why the OP isn't seeing any available rooms. I checked the DCL site this morning and there are cabins available.

Selfishness is not reserved for "the tri-state area". Still having family down south, I can assure you people are just as selfish there.

Oh there are obnoxious, selfish people ALL across the country! Anytime you sail out of FL you can see that. People from NY/NJ really get a bad rap - they're not all like the stereotypes and honestly unless you're one of them, IMO it's pretty rude to post that.

I was born and raised in NJ, but I can't spend more than 24 hrs there now without wanting to find the closest bridge to get out of state. And that is my point I can't help myself, rude stuff just comes out it is a way of life there. Everyone was trying to be politically correct say "stereotypes" but I was being honest. You may run into rude people in Florida, but they probably moved from the north. Unfortunately I have to take a Jersey week cruise because my wife is a teacher as well so I will have to live with my decision. Hopefully Disney can keep everyone in a happy mood.

Since you were born and raised in NJ you can say that. :-) I just hate when outsiders stereotype us negatively. I don't think anyone should comment on a whole city, country, etc.

My family and I were on the jersey week cruise (western Caribbean) in 2015. We didn't find it overcrowded, the other passengers were not rude or pushy and in fact our table mates were from NJ. Nicest family! They explained Jersey week to us but we never really experienced any of the negatives :). We are from Canada, and thought it was funny that an entire state holidays in the same place

We also did the parks for a week when we got off the cruise, and except for Epcot, it wasn't too bad for crowds. That was a race day, and food and wine so understandably busy...

We are doing the November 4th cruise again this year but eastern this time...can't wait! Hope our experience is the same:)

Yeah - agree completely. I live in NJ, I travel all over the country. Its crazy to think that selfishness is reserved for this area. Kind of seems to me that someone who says something like that needs to look in the mirror.

On to the topic at hand, that IS jersey week. Election day is Tuesday, NJ teachers convention is Thursday and Friday. So, you can get a full week vacation, at an off time, and only take your kids out of school for two days. Its starting to get a little chilly at that time up here, so it is a nice time to get away.

Question on cruise crowds, though. I haven't been on a cruise in 10 years. There are a finite number of staterooms on the cruise, right? And they do a pretty good job of filling the ship every time. Wouldn't that mean that crowd levels are pretty consistent?

Weeks when schools are not out in large numbers it would skew slightly more towards solo adults, couples or people with small children - the couples being the difference with 2 people in a cabin as opposed to 3 or 4 or even 5 (yes, people actually do that) that are likely to happen during school vacations. So the same number of cabins exist, but the number of souls in them can differ.
