A while back there was talk, and even prices for a Disney European cruise....but now it's all gone quiet! Does anyone know what the latest is on this? Any expected sailing date/year?!!

Rumors....currently none scheduled.
However, DCL and Disney in general is always working on the "next thing."

We sailed on the Wonder on July 11, and two days ago I got a post card to do an online survey. One of the survey questions asked how interested I would be in a cruise to the Med (I think that's what it said). It also asked if I would be interested in a cruise to Alaska.

DH told me last week that if we all enjoy our cruise in March, he'd like to take us on a Med. cruise for our 25th anniversary (September, 2006). Wouldn't it be great if it were a Disney cruise???

Living in England it would be amazing (short, cheaper flight to get to cruise)....so I'm hoping that something will come of the rumour. I can't remember when exactly it was posted, but there were ports of call, prices etc which made me think that it is certainly in the pipeline, but probably not until at least 2006 with the mexiacn and repo cruises for 2005.

I guess we just watch this space and keep our fingers crossed!!!!!

Can you imagine how long it would take for either the Magic or the Wonder to make a trans-atlantic crossing? I think a Med cruise on DCL would definitely need to wait for the next class of DCL ship to be built.

Boy, book me for that repositioning cruise! Two weeks on DCL with a European Vacation to follow. :Pinkbounc

Seriously, it took 4 or 5 *YEARS* for Disney to go from rumor to actuality for the west coast cruises, and even so they're only doing a temporary west coast itinerary. I'm still waiting for the third ship with a permanant west coast itinerary.

So, I wouldn't hold my breath for a medditerranean cruise.

It's actually not that long a trip. Either of DCL's ships could make it in less than a week. Assuming this is going to happen, they'd likely make it a two-week cruise with stops in Atlantic Canada, and then in Great Britain and Ireland before arriving in the Med. Other lines have ships of similar and even smaller size re-position like this every year.

I was having a phone conversation with a DCL rep a couple weeks ago and this topic came up. She told me that is was very close to being formalized when 9/11 and all that followed happened and the world climate changed so DCL decided that it was not the time.

It is always a possibility... one never knows.

That DCL rep is mistaken about the timing. Actually, back in September 2002 -- a full year after the tragic events of September 11, 2001 -- DCL was doing heavy duty market research regarding such a cruise. DCL asked many former cruise passengers to take a survey about their interest in 7-night Disney cruises in Europe in Summer 2004.

Itinerary:
Sunday - Barcelona, Spain
Monday - Cannes, France
Tuesday - Livorno (Florence), Italy
Wednesday - Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy
Thursday - Naples, Italy
Friday - Day at sea
Saturday - Palma de Mallorca, Spain
Sunday - Barcelona, Spain

For a long thread on this subject, see http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=269892

Obviously, DCL did not go ahead with the idea.
