I was very surprised to see a Katrina forum here on the DisBoards. Excellent!
My home was in Lakeview, very near to the infamous 17th Street Canal breach. My street had 11 feet of water, and 6 feet of it was inside my home. I am in the process of considering my rebuild. I do have to say, I really considered taking my first $2,000 of FEMA money and running to Disneyworld with it. It would have been perfect. Everyone else in the country would have been in the first weeks of school, and the parks would have been much less crowded. I was overruled by more sensible minds.
To my question. I lost every DVD (and every other possession) I own and have been trying to replace many of the Disney movies my kids love. I did try to clean them, but many are ruined and unwatchable. The three that are eluding me the most are The Lion King, Sleeping Beauty, and Beauty and the Beast. I know they are in the vault which I think is ridiculous. I waited seven years for a non-VCR copy of Beauty and the Beast and I guess I may have to wait seven more. I wish Disney would keep their product available all the time. Is there anywhere you can think of that I might find these for under the $60 the sellers on Amazon and E-Bay want? Any help would be appreciated.
Finally, just a bit of a screed about the vault stuff. Disney's policy really encourages scarcity of their product. Movies are snapped up by sellers, held, and then offered at confiscatory prices later on. Besides this, it prevents every other generation of children from seeing their great movies. My daughter is four and watched Beauty and the Beast and Sleeping Beauty constantly. She is firmly in the "I want to be a princess" phase, and it is adorable. By the time I am likely to find these movies again she will be close to a pre-teen. I just find it ridiculous that I cannot replace these films that have meant so much to her because Disney decides to hold them hostage until they can trot them out years later, again with the message of, "Better get it now, or you won't have a chance later." It's as manipulative as anything I've ever seen.
Anyway, if anyone has any idea where these films may be found on DVD without paying an arm and a leg I'd love to know.
PS--First post but a long time lurker here.
