is there a difference??

I know the cost is but what I am asking does disney
treat a disney dvc (account) differently than a resale dvc when booking or when they offer any specials :confused3 ??

hi: the main difference is time. it does take a bit longer for member services to have you in the system after you close on a resale; you are in the system right away when dealing directly with disney

Honestly, I have seen no difference.

DSIL/DBIL own at OKW and bought direct from Disney years ago. Since she and I are such DVC freaks, we talk about e-mails we receive (which are the same) and our MS's experience.

In terms of direct customer's getting special treatment, I haven't seen that either. DSIL called in to make a reservation for a 2-BR at SSR for the week of Easter. She was waitlisted for a dedicated 2-BR. I called later that even and also reserved a 2-BR and waitlisted a dedicated. Three weeks later, we both saw the dedicated 2-BR come through on dvcmember.com and it was within a day or two of each other.

I'm not 100% sure, but I assume that MS can tell if you purchased direct or bought resale. When I got to dvcmember.com, the "member type" says "purchaser." MS has always been pleasant and for the most part, very helpful. Have just had some minor issues with them being consistent with rules when I ask.

Lastly, I can assure you that our dues are the same, too! We gripe about them every year because they come the same time the Christmas bills arrive!

thanks everyone for your input we are going/wanting to buy a dvc but not really sure what route to take. but i want more bang for the buck so we did see an okw that looks great and i would be getting 40 more points than ssr for the same price. however. we do know okw ends sooner than ssr i hoping i am still alive when okw ends though :lmao:

Once you are in the system (we bought resale) there is no difference. Getting into the system is different - resale will be a lengthier process with more bumps. When you buy through Disney, guides will help you reserve before closing, when you buy resale, you not only have to close, but wait to get into DVCs system in order to reserve.

Oh, and resale owners do not get a tote bag or whatever they are handing out now. And documentation on a resale is usually pretty scanty - all that legal documentation DVC sends (the contract, POS) (DVC will send you one if you call and ask).

But once you are over those hurdles, you are assigned a guide and life goes on just like you bought from Disney.

If you want to buy thru dinsey an older resort...you can be put on a wait list and possibly wait longer than resale! Some people on the boards have waited over a year to buy BCV on a wait list at disney...it is taking me around 2 months.
