Disney Dreams will be on the West coast with trips to Mexico and Alaska. Dreams is being built under a fake corporate name and is much bigger with large waterparks on board.

I don't think this could have been kept a secret. It isn't April 1st, so what gives???

Interesting - but the other cruise websites, cruise magazines etc. closely monitor who is building what ships where. If a large ship were being built for an 'unknown' company - I would expect the info to be all over the place. "Who is this new cruise line?" "What major cruise line is secretly building this mega-ship?" etc. They could not keep the construciton of a major cruise ship a secret.

Just like when WDW was being planned. They didn't know who was buying the land, but they knew that someone was buying land in Florida. Same here, they wouldn't know who was buildng the ship, but they would know that a ship was being built. So I would find it very surprising if the part about it being "half-built" is true.

Funny thing is I just had this conversation with my wife last night.

I explained about the shipyards, the order process, and the current ships being built and I said, "if anybody could build a cruise ship and keep it a secret Disney could.

As crazy as this sounds I believe it is possible this post is accurate.

Hi!
When I opened this thread I was not so sure, but I found more information of the Disney Dream!
It still is a rumor, but on disneycorner, on the future part, it also says "3rd ship to Disney Cruise Line: Disney Dream" It also says The location is "West Coast" and it opens "2008". It DOES says that it is a rumor, but we now have this information from the original poster and this site.... I guess we'll just have to wait to see what happens!

Also unlikely as the contracts for building a new ship would be a material liability and need to be disclosed to stockholders in the annual reports.

I'm just off the Wonder 10 night. Spoke to our TA onboard two nights ago. He said that he is almost positive an announcement of the new ship is just weeks away. I guess we'll know soon! :cheer2:

The OP gave no source for the rumor, therefore IMO is not credible.

There was no mention of the Disney Dream at the Feb '06 annual shareholders meeting.

I'm curious about something: Why would DCL want to keep this a secret anyway?? I would think they'd want to announce it and therefore build anticipation for it! I mean, let the people (US! LOL) start planning and daydreaming NOW about these alleged west coast cruises! LOL

I do have to believe they are considering positioning a ship on the west coast, or at the very least positioning one of their current ships on the west coast for a summer or longer, because the first 2 choices in my recent DCL online survey were: "3/4 night Mexico Cruise sailing out of California" and "7 night Mexican Riviera cruise sailing out of California".

Like I said in a different thread, they'd be opening up the way for Land/Sea cruises to include Disneyland and Mexico :) Makes sense to me and I gave those choices the highest "Extremely interested!" rating that I could. :teeth:

P.S. Jeff: I definitely agree that DCL *could* keep this a secret if they wanted to, I just don't see why they'd want to. Is there a reason for them wanting to keep it under wraps?? I don't think it'd be because they don't want any other cruise lines to "steal" their design ideas because as most of us know, there are other cruise lines out there with all kinds of amenities that DCL just doesn't want or need to include on their ships.

Wow, that would really be a Disney DREAM! :wizard:
After all, "A Dream is a wish your heart makes..." :cloud9:
But, there is still that skeptical side of me and I can't wait to hear this from a less anonymous source. I do believe that they will need to put a new ship that is better designed for cooler weather on the west coast (indoor pool, more indoor deck viewing), not just for the Alaska trips but also because it isn't always all that tropical down to the Mexican Riviera! We froze all but 1 1/2 days on our 7 nighter to Mexico--and it was JUNE!

Here's to dreaming....

Creidble or not, it's certainly fun to dream about!! Would certainly be a dream come true for this Oregonian! :thumbsup2

OP: Thanks for getting our imaginations churning! Tons of pixie dust that it's true!

They could be waiting to announce it during the press event before the start of the Disney year of a million Dreams promotion beginning Oct 1st. That would make sense since the name is supposed to be The Disney Dreams. This could be why all the secrecy, maybe they will give out a cruise on all the ship including the first Disney Dreams cruise.

Just a thought

All I can say is if they bring a boat out here on the West coast I will be the happiest Disney lover!! :teeth:  We're about 6 hours from Long Beach so a cruise on the West coast would be so much cheaper for my family than needing to travel to Orlando.

Well, if that's true, neat! We'll have to take a trip out to California to go on that ship :)

Does anyone think if another ship would look like the Wonder/Magic?

1) Yes, Disney could announce a new ship or new ships. But there are as many good arguments against additional ship or ships as for.

2) No, a publically held company could not hide a major project like that from it's stockholders. So nothing is under construction,

3) If you follow the ship building industry at all, you know about that the shipyards have firm orders for the next five years, in fact the shipyards in Italy even went to court earlier this year to get out of contract clauses that required delivery within 5 years. So don't expect any new ships before 2011 or 2012 if ordered today.

And why couldn't Disney, at a time of thier choosing, buy out a contract on a ship either ordered or under construction? Advance planning does not have to be reported to share holders. I believe this has happened before to another cruise ship company. Like the old James Bond movie title "Never say Never". Companies have put themselves in debt to avoid take over attempts. Disney I believe did this in the 80's. So the anouncement ,or lack of, may be for reasons not related to the day to day operations. I'm sure they have thier own timetable. Also this may be wrong and Disney is content to stand pat.....but I doubt that. They have always been out front in thier planning. Something will happen. Maybe the OP is right. Or maybe his time table is off but a new ship at some point is almost a sure thing IMHO. Of coarse this is all in theroy and reality will be here soon enough to prove us all wrong-lol

They COULD, but since the Disney ships have a certain look, and other cruiselines have other looks, they'd be accepting the design created by another line. My guess is that Disney values their brand too much - they are too type A about design - to accept someone elses design for their ships.

That isn't to say a new ship might not be quite different from the current Magic and Wonder - but there should be a lot of similarities as well.

Planning doesn't have to be annouced. Material financial committments do need to be annouced. Granted, with a company the size of Disney, its possible Disney could make the case that the contract to build a new ship isn't material.
