Your Super Bowl LX Performer Is...

I get tired of people who only want 'older' acts and diss the newer ones ...
YES! I like older acts (just went to Alice Cooper and Judas Priest concert) but I'd much rather have the newer younger acts in this instance. Last year I loved Kendrick Lamar. Not my usual listening music but thought he was great. I'm looking forward to this one, see what he brings to the stage.

There are always going to be performers that are not a watcher's cup of tea. No reason not to broaden your viewing by seeing something different. Only a 15 minute show. And if it really rubs you wrong then don't watch and use the break to do something else. I mean I usually spend the evening just watching the commercials and half time unless I have some interest in a team.

This announcement surprised me as he said he wasn’t going to tour in the US with the current political climate.
He opted to not tour on the mainland for the safety of the concert goers AND instead to do a concert residency in Puerto Rico that needed the influx of much needed cash. It just finished up and estimated to put $200 million in to the economy. No different when an artist does not tour but does residency in Las Vegas.

And, also, as many people seem to forget, Puerto Rico is in fact part of the United States.

This 71 yr old Gramma is very excited over Bad Bunny doing Super bowl. I liked him in his SNL skits especially the Don't Destroy Video one last spring. And I loved him in Happy Gilmore 2. To be honest I haven't listened to much of his music but I still look forward to his halftime show for the Super Bowl! :thumbsup2

About the only two genres of music that I don't like.

You know, I could say that too, except it's not really true. I wouldn't say that I generally a big fan of rap, but rap can be so many things. I do in fact like certain kinds of rap, mostly the older stuff like Run DMC or The Beastie Boys, but it's still rap. A genre can be so widely varied.

It's like, I have this freind who totes the usual guy line that, "I hate musicals." And yet, he enjoys a lot of musicals. He likes Disney movies and a lot of old Fox musicals, like with Bing Crosby. He's a huge Danny Kaye fan! What he really means is when he says that he hates musicals is, "I hate Cats." He immediately pictures any Broadway musical as Cats. That is in fact offputting too - but it's an innaccurate presumption.

That is the most unfamiliar performer that the NFL has ever selected. The popularity of the artist is largely within the Latino demographic and isn’t as known in other demos. I bet most of the audience that doesn’t speak Spanish (which much of Bad Bunny’s product is sung in) will likely switch to the Puppy Bowl… watch those Animal Planet ratings rise x100…
Most ppl I know are excited.... especially the younger ppl in my circle. He's insanely talented!

Sure, but someone had mentioned that he had decided not to tour in the US. He does regularly perform in Puerto Rico, which is in fact part of the US.
It might seem like I'm debating semantics but in this case it's really an important distinction. A territory of the U.S. is different than a state of the U.S. and it's where he's from. Puerto Rico has its own identity and culture so a Puerto Rican saying they wouldn't play in the U.S. shouldn't IMO be met with the quip "yeah well it's part of the U.S. sooo..." it ends up feeling dismissive to their identity.

It's like when we visited there and we were in a coffee farm in the middle of the island and embarrassingly an American asked the question of how did Puerto Ricans feel about being part of the U.S. the poor tour guide was understandably taken aback and was delicately explaining they are their own people too.

Big talk, no action. I’ve never heard of him before yesterday. But heard he is a rapper. That’s not music so I won’t bother to watch.

I've never heard of him prior to this (I tend to live in a music bubble). I usually watch the Superbowl every year, and I typically don't focus too much on the half time show, although I'll usually watch a little bit of it. I'll do that same for this one too, and I just hope he/they just do their performance and keep all the political messages out of it. Any performance I can appreciate, but please, just a performance and not any additional hidden personal messages.

Music is intrinsically political, always has been. Only way to avoid that is not listen to music.

I don't consider Bad Bunny a rapper. He might feature a rapper but he sings.

I mean, he raps, but also sings. It's kind of what I was getting at before - his music can vary quite a bit. Few musical artists can really be classified as just one thing. He's also an actor and professional wrestler. He is certainly a multi-talent, no matter how you feel about the music.

Not what I meant, but that's on me for not properly explaining it. I hope we don't have to see signs, flags and other direct messages specific to the current political atmosphere.
