Disney Dream ~ September 15, 2011

Crap! See?! I was totally forgetting my mani/pedi! You still gotta make your FE??? Ouch. Have you made one before? Generally if it's something I'm making for the first time it will take forever but if I've made one before I'm golden. Glad I'm not the only one that waited a while to finish the FE gifts. I think mine are pretty well wrapped-up. I need to do a recheck to be sure. Oh! Then I want to pack up a box of junk I can send to the port. Your front porch enclosure... -->:lmao:! I'm quite familiar with the 'Sally Ports'...not because I was a customer! pirate: I used to have to go sign-out our trusty-trustee to come clean the communications center every day. So now I'm imagining the dog with the Sally Port..... That's funny! That does remind me, tho. I should prob'ly write out some notes of some sort for the old man's brother who has offered to keep our little furry girl for us. I think the in-laws and bro-in-law are about to find out just how people-attached our girl is. She's gonna pick her person at their house and be on 'em like white on rice.

Toria! I know! Wouldn't forgetting the passports be the WORST?! I would just die! Yesterday I also had a very odd dream about WDW and seeing a little girl get carted off by a gator but that's just one of those early morning wacked-out dreams. Not gonna stress about that so much. :thumbsup2

Anyone else watching the tropics??? I think Irene won't be an issue but that wave that's way out there still might be timed about right. At this point we're watching Irene to make sure she doesn't come our way. If a storm is gonna hit I'd rather it happened while we're already gone. That's terrible, I know. I just don't want to deal with the horrible-canes. I really don't. I'd rather be on vacation and have one come wipe the slate clean. That's terrible to say, I know. That actually happened to our friends back in Louisiana when Katrina came. We've spent too many anniversaries cleaning up after storms and sweating it out with no electricity. Let me at least be away from home for the anniversary then come home to pick up the pieces. :cool2:

OMG! That dream was crazy about the lil girl being taken out by a gator! Pretty much speechless. I am also watching the tropics and thinking about the people that will be cruising next Thursday, because that is when it is supposed to make it to Florida. Good luck to them is all I can say.

Yeah, I think especially for people who've never been around hurricanes or had to live with them it might be a bit more of an issue. Believe me, Tracey & I discussed the possibility at length because we know very well when the most hectic part of the season is. My dad having been in the Navy for so many years we're also very aware of what ships will do when storms like that are on their way. Our thinking was: If a storm comes the ship will still have to sail. Unless it's gonna hit within the day of embarkation, they're going to turn the passengers over and get us onboard. We may or may not miss a port or 2 or our route will change to sail around the thing which would kinda stink. But on the other hand the stinkiness is offset by the fact that we get the experience of riding the seas with a storm out there which would certainly lend a different perspective and exciting experience for us. We don't care of the plans change. We're in for the adventure! I suppose we're more laid-back than others because we're driving so we don't have the stress of working around flights and such.

We also figure a storm hitting Florida while we're at WDW before or after the cruise wouldn't be so bad. Again, it's a different perspective. Knowing how Disney handled it in the past we're confident they have their act together. It certainly can't be worse than what we've already been thru. Worst case? We get in our car when the storm clears and head home. We always fill up the tank when we arrive at WDW so even if gas becomes sparse, we can get a good 450 miles away before we'll need more. We'd be fine.

Now, the only thing that would even remotely bug me is if a storm hit our house (again) while we were gone. If it's bad enough to worry with we'd have to evacuate anyway so check that off the list. We aren't there. Ike back in '08 pushed a tremendous storm surge and amazingly we didn't flood. If the roof strips down to the plywood again, well, been-there-done-that. We'll gut the place (again) and rebuild just like we did before.

The only real problem a storm could be for us would be if a big one hit between now and when we are set to leave on vacation on 9/9. That would derail everything because we'd need to do the big pack-up/move-out then come back to clean-up and rebuild which would throw the whole shabbang. So lemme go knock on everything wood in the house, throw salt over both my shoulders, do the good-juju dance, etc. :dance3:

Did ya'll watch the Dream sail out this evening.:cool1::banana: The operator of the camera zoomed in and you could clearly see the guests on the deck waving at the camera. AND, you could see guests clearly riding the AquaDuck. The operator really zoomed in close. It was quite a site to see. Hope everyone got to watch!!!:cool1::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

Oh, and I have to buy our travel insurance! The hurricane talk reminded me of that! LOL

I haven't made an FE before, but I know my way around a sewing machine and I have a good idea of what needs to be done. So, I'm not too worried about that. If worst comes to worst, I'll buy a Tote bag and hang it from our Fish. LOL

We have a letter typed up with vet info, animal control info, any food issues info, descriptions of the dogs and last time I wrote it up, I was out of color ink, but this time I'll print out pics of the pets. Just in case someone goes missing! And I always leave some cash for whatever may come up and then a sealed letter for the vet with credit card info and a maximum allowable charge, just in case of emergency.

I'm not worried about hurricanes. We'll have the insurance to cover us financially and the ships just sail around them if they have to. I lived through several while growing up in New England.

Ok, back to FE gifts! :goodvibes

I don't post often but I just need to get out how excited to someone other than my sister and 4 year old. We are going our first cruise on 9/15. My mum is coming 2 but she has cruised before in May on a 7 day carnival cruise. I want to hear her comparison. Last Weekend we all got out luggage tags in the mail: teeth:. That really made me excited. I also know now why people make vacations a surprise for children. It is very hard explaining to a 4.5 year old that 3 weeks is not so far away.

So I went a bought the little Princess 2 princess dresses to wear on the cruise. I'm thinking to dinner maybe?

Since it is our first cruise didn’t want to do FE or magnets but I look forward to seeing others cabin. I don't think we will get too dressed up for pirate night. Hopefully there will be eye patches and scarfs for sale on the ship. I didn't see any at the mall.

We have been on beach vacations before figure I will pack as if we were going to an island (since we are) but is anything special I should pack for the cruise?

Any advice at all.

Also I did not purchase vacation insurance even though I we are to fly in from Philly on embarkation day (I like living dangerously). However if the cruise gets cancelled d/t weather would we get a refund or the option to cruise at a later date? All the rain we have been getting and the threads hurricane talk has me worried a little. But not much because Lord knows I need this short vacation really bad.

I watched it, was so excited to see her sail. She is truly a magnificent ship and I can't wait to try the Aquaduck, so glad they zoomed in on that. We also think we saw our room (sorta) which is cool :teeth:

Not long now and then we get to be those people waving at the camera

I wouldn't worry about the cruise being cancelled, but if there are weather issues, I would DEFINITELY worry about flight delays and/or cancellations. If you can't make the cruise because of a flight issue, you WILL lost out on all the money you paid for your cruise. :scared1::scared1::scared1:

So much done yesterday but so much more to do. Up well before the sun so the youngest & I could muscle thru a sweltering run. Ugh! When will ever get a break from this heat?! When will we ever see rain again? And why is it the only time of day the air doesn't move at all is when we run??? Ugh! I've watched the weather for WDW & I can honestly say we are consistently hotter than Central Florida. Only occasionally do we get equal temps. Guess that might work out good once we get there. The only weather shock we'll have is the wet stuff falling from the sky. :upsidedow

Are you by any chance planning on running the Castaway 5K? :)

Got to see your room!!!!!!!!!! You Lucky Duck you.:thumbsup2 Our room is on the other side of the ship. But yes you are right - it won't be much longer and we will waving to the camera!!!:woohoo:

Yesterday was getting everything together that goes in the suitcases day at our household. We even put in the suitcases some things we won't need until vacation time is here. DW is starting to freak out alittle.:scared1: We only have 2 more week-ends before the cruise!!!:cool1::banana::cool1::woohoo::yay: And she says she has sooooooooooo much to do yet.:confused3 I told her the last week-end before we cruise is a 3 day week-end - that did help in calming her down a bit.

Hope ya'll have a great day today!!!:yay:

How far before the 3:00 time would be the cut-off for y'all? Trying to think a way around or between the 1:30 & 3:00. Maybe before 1:30 although I don't think everyone will be onboard yet.

Meeting at 1:45-2:00 would be the cutoff for us. I want enough time to actually talk for a few, but also leave myself enough time to find the location of my public notary ceremony and prepare whatever concerns I have for the wedding coordinator.

If that time doesn't work for the majority of people, thats fine, just meet without us. On Castaway Cay at least you could spot us, I'll be the one in the wedding dress.

My 13 yro and I want to give it a shot. I can tell you right now we aren't running the whole thing. It's been difficult at best to keep up 3-4 runs per week this summer. Normally I stop running over the summer then pick it back up in the fall once the temps fade but the kiddo really wants to do this so we've been getting up at 5 a.m. 3 or 4 days a week. Not fun. We'll likely try to stick with whatever intervals we are on by the time the cruise rolls around. We have 5 days at WDW prior to the cruise that I'm going to have to shove him out the door at least 3 days so we don't have too much of a gap, get on the 5k, and fall over dead. LOL!

1:45 works for us! :thumbsup2

I can be there for a short intro! Where we meetin? Then I can also come back for the 3:00. I want to meet my fellow cruisers! :thumbsup2

I'm looking forward to being one of those people waving from the deck. This portion will be my second half of my B2B.
I'm still shopping for our FE too
See you all soon!

Sooooo, anyone want to start a pool for how much of CC will still be there when/if we get there? I know the storm can still do a whole lot. I'll be watching the track closely. The most recent update gives it a cat 4 when it passes over the Bahamas. Unless she keeps creeping east so the Bahamas end up on the "good side" of the storm I'm thinking there won't be a stop for us. Either way, I'm still stoked and ready to go! Whatever happens happens. It's an adventure and we're all in it together, right?

I would be disappointed if we miss that stop, but it will be all the more reason to book another cruise. A day at sea would be great. Either way as long as we are on that ship everything will be just great!

I think I have the most to lose if we skip cc. But I'm sure getting married on the ship would be lovely too. :thumbsup2

So cruise meet at 1:45? Where at? Being my first Disney cruise I'm not sure where people usually meet.

I'm in the same boat as you! ((<--no pun intended..but a good one!)) This is my first cruise as well.

Looks like the Castaway 5k just went out the window for DS13 & me. He's been having problems with his knees. We need him to take a break from running to rest them. He wants to get out there and walk it but we'll have to see. Poor kid. When we told him this morning no more running until at least after vacation he was pretty upset. He says he feels like he's a failure and he's letting me down since we were going to do the 5k together. Poor guy. We'll just have to sign ourselves up for another 5k somewhere local and shoot for that.

How about 1:45pm at 687 - a contemporary sports bar located on Deck 4, Aft in The District area on the Disney Dream, is a sophisticated yet friendly venue where families can partake in activities and games during the day, and adults can unwind with a cocktail at night.

Are we going to have a second meet at 3pm or just the 1:45? Does anyone not anticipate being on board, or able to make it at 1:45?
