Disney Dream ~ September 15, 2011

Ok I need to vent - you all don't mind do you?

So Disney's wedding planner tells us we need to come to the beautician on the ship with an idea how to do my dd's hair. We don't usually do anything to our hair, we don't wear makeup, we don't do fingernail polish (but I do have sparkle toe nail polish). And they want us to come with ideas? :confused3 I thought that was the beautician's job?

So - I make an appointment at the local salon for a consult on an "up-do". Sounds like the right thing to do - right? :thumbsup2 (I was trying to follow directions of the wedding planner) Last Tuesday night we went for the consult - we look in the hair books, the lady gives us some ideas - then tells us I could probably do it myself and she will let us borrow her "special curlers" that are really easy to use and she will teach me how. :woohoo: Problem is another stylist has them so we need to come back on another night to get them.

So that other night to come back was tonight (due to her work schedule, my dd's work schedule and my work schedule). She was going to cut my dd's hair a bit (cause it is really long right now) and show me how to use the curlers then let us borrow them. Problem is when we got there the stylist realized she doesn't have the curlers. :scared1: UGHHHH!!! So tonight nothing gets done, she wants us to come back on a different night. Can't my dd possibly come one day without me, can't I possibly come one day without her, etc. etc. Problem with all that is I leave next Friday and I work almost every day and night between now and them. Remember I told you I work three jobs.

So - we have a few ideas in our head from last week - but no pictures or any great way to describe it (cause like I said we don't usually do this). Now just so you all know many moons ago my dd did dance competitions I did her hair all the time. But it has been many moons and I am out of practice.

Now maybe I was crazy to think I could do it in the first place (after so many years), maybe I was crazy to think she would let me borrow curlers, but gosh darn I thought I might be able to do this "special" thing for my daughter.

Disappointing..... :sad2:

Ok I'm done - thanks for listening. Maybe I just need a :grouphug:

Awwwww.... Here ya go.... :grouphug:

You scared me for a minute there when you said you needed to vent about the wedding! The first thing that popped into my mind was the big load of crap DFTW's has dumped on one of my friends who was supposed to be getting married at the Wedding Pavilion 23 days from now. Such a mess! You'd have to see it to believe it:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2789617

Towards the end another girl popped on and said DFTW's has dropped the same load of crap on her sister...just 8 days from her wedding and they're flying in from the UK! :scared1:

The whole debacle has gone all but viral. Everyone needs to know what Disney is doing to these girls. It's sick.

Soooo, back to the hair. Is there any way you can do some practicing on the hair ahead of time without using curlers? Otherwise, maybe do some searches online for a pic of something similar. Print out the pic and take it to the salon. I think that's something brides do. I don't know, really. I've never had my hair done like styled-done. We had a very small wedding at the in-law's house when I got married so I just did my own. Even if she leaves her hair down, I'm sure she'll be the perfect picture of a glowing angel on her day.

Becky,
Here's a :grouphug: and some pixiedust: for you. I totally understand your frustration about the appointments at the hair salon. I suggest the same thing as sweet pea...do a google search (images, not web sites) to see what you can find. OR do what I did for my friend's wedding...tell the stylist to do whatever she/he thinks would look best on each of you. If you normally don't do anything fancy with your hair to begin with, I really wouldn't let this stress you out. Maybe it was just a suggestion that you bring your own ideas on the ship, but they should be able to figure out how to do what will look fabulous. :goodvibes

Here's another :grouphug: and pixiedust:

Sorry to hear about your frustration, hope all is well now

Got a quick question for you savvy cruisers. You can book your next vacation/cruise on board can't you? If you book your next cruise, does it have to be a Caribbean one or can you do say an Alaskan one?

TIA
Stefy :)

You can book any cruise onboard including mediterranean, alaskan... whatever is currently offered. You can also book a "dummy date" and move it to whatever type you want' (we moved a 2 week transatlantic t oa 7 night caribbean and still kept the perks)

Ok I am starting to feel better thanks to all the :grouphug: and :goodvibes.

My dd was not as upset as I was. She was like - well that just wasn't supposed to happen. It will be ok. She says "mom you taught me that things don't always go right and no reason being upset - just go with the flow". So in this situation I think she made me proud!!! :thumbsup2

I was stressing worrying about getting everything done and realize that I need to quit worrying so much. Something about my only child being a :bride: just made me a little too stressed.

But when I get to FL next week and see the Disney store in the airport that is the first thing that makes me feel better. I think that is because there has not been a disney store anywhere close to us for a lonnngggg time.

Can't wait to meet everyone. And remember when you see the bride on CC it will be my dd. Don't be afraid to say hello!!!!

Becky, did you know they are opening a new Disney store in the St. Louis Galleria on September 14:banana: I have missed there being one in our area also!
We booked this cruise just a few weeks ago and I am so excited to find this thread, I keep trying to catch the Dream while docked so I can catch in on the webcam but so far I am always too late!!
Two more weeks:cheer2:

The dream is there today. I always miss it leaving the port, too. :sad2: I think it leaves at about 4:30-5:00 Port Canaveral time. You would think I would know this since I've been on 7 cruises! but I never pay attention to the time when we are leaving the port.

Two weeks from now we will be cruising!!!:jumping1:

I'm driving DH & anyone else who will listen to me - and even a few who don't really want to listen - totally crazy  with my countdown reminders! :sail:

I'm also watching Katia & hoping she stays away from CC!

I watched the PC webcam tonite. Went on about 4:15 and watched Carnival Sensation leave. I think Disney Dream pulled out just before 5, but I'm not exactly sure of the time. I can't wait to be the one waving to the webcam!

Yes and we can't wait!!!:yay::woohoo::cheer2::dance3:

Does that show my excitement enough?

I was with a client tonite and didn't get to watch the webcam. Will have to try to catch it next time.

Ooh thank you for that :) Do you know if there are any special discounts for booking your next cruise during a cruise? Or is it the normal website rate?

So excited, not long now til we're all cruising :teeth: This time today we'll be in Nassau :yay:

Stefy, it depends on the length of the cruise you are booking, but you can get up to a $200.00 OBC for a 7 day cruise PLUS you get 10% knocked off the price for booking on board. It does pay to book another cruise on board. We are planning on booking on board and using it as a dummy date to move to a 2013 cruise when those dates come out. We have just 13 more days to go gang!!!!:woohoo::woohoo::yay::yay::woohoo::woohoo:

What is the normal deposit you need to put down to book a cruise? Does that depend on how long the cruise is?

The normal deposit is 20% of your cruise price that you are booking. When you book on the ship, it's only 10%. Of course all that means is that you still have more to pay later.

Also Stefy, I forgot to mention, we book thru a travel agent. Now our TA also gives us for booking a 7 day cruise with Disney thru them a $200.00 OBC. Total - $400.00 OBC for the 7 day cruise by booking your cruise on board and telling the Disney agent the name of your TA at the time you book. You get Disney's OBC / your TA's OBC and a 10% discount for booking your next cruise on board. :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

Just make sure you give your TAs name when you book onboard. If you don't DCL won't give the TA the normal commission and they probably won't be able to give the full OBC that they normally would. :thumbsup2

We are almost to the single digit countdown :cool1:! I am nearly done packing, only things left are the last minute items. I also went and brought some motion sickness medication for the family. I hope that we won't need it. Have a great Labor Day everyone!
