Disney Dream pictures!

Thanks, MJ. :)

I was worried there was an ongoing thread "stuck" somewhere that I was missing! Can't get enough of these pics!

This is so awesome! I'm so excited!

If any of you have pics you would like to be featured on my blog, let me know! Some are FANTASTIC! :D I love the Donald ones!

Send me a PM and I would be happy to share the pictures I took at the Disney Dream event

Slightly ot, but I found this looking for something on another thread. Its a list of what ships are currenty under construction, planned but not yet built, and built but not yet in service, and when they are do out. Both the Dream and Fantasy are listed, as well as satelite pics of the ship yard.

This is an interesting website... It's making me wonder when the Dream will be floated out for sea trials...

Norwegian Epic - Estimated Inaugural: May, 2010 Status: Floated Out (July 11, 2009) - Floated out ten months beore inaugural

P&O Azura - Estimated Inaugural: April 12, 2010 Status: Floated out (June 26, 2009) - Floated out 9.5 months before inaugural

HAL Nieuw Amsterdam - Estimated Inaugural: July, 2010 Status: Floated out (October 31, 2009) - Floated out 8 months before inaugural

Queen Elizabeth - Estimated Inaugural: October 12, 2010 Status: Floated Out (January 5, 2010) - Floated out 9 months beore inaugural

Celebrity Eclipse - Estimated Inaugural: April 26, 2010 Status: Floated out and awaiting sea trials (February 28, 2010) - Floated out less than two months beore inaugural

The Eclipse was the only ship of those listed which was built at Meyer Werft, so can we expect the dream to be floated out about two months out from its inaugural sailing (November 2010)? Or can we expect it in April or May? Right now, I'm thinking closer to November than to May... Is there a deadline for this? And why does it seem like Meyer Werft floats out later than others (ie: Fincantieri, etc)?

Im thinking the Dream should be floated out sometime in Novemberish.
1 of the big advantages that MW has over the other yards, is that they can build 2 ships in the same dock at the same time, under cover. Plus, the minute the ship is launched, its already going thru her checkout. The other yards, simply move the ship from a dry dock to a wet dock to continue construction.Usually within a few hours of float out, at Mw.,the engines are started and tested, elctronics are set up etc. When she hits Eemshaven, she goes thru her sea trial,(Usualy about 2-3 weeks) and once accepeted, she is loaded with furniture, etc and sent on her way. Most other yards dont have that option.MW can get more done indoors, than other yards.
Usually there is somekind of deadline that the owner sets for the builder, in the contract.Theres specific things that the ship must meet perfomance wise, along with dates etc. In the case of the Magic, Fincantieri ran late with the Magic and owed Disney money due to failing to meet the contract.

I am so curious to know how they handle training on the ship for staff. I assume there will be CM's from the Magic and Wonder who will move over, which means not only will they need to train new staff over there, but train the Dream Team (:thumbsup2) the in's and out's of the new ship (or train newbies all together). If the speculation is two months worth of sea trials, I wonder how long that means the crew will get on the ship to fine tune. Any info?

Also, does anyone think it will be similar to some other cruise lines where the Inaugural Cruise isn't truly the Inaugural cruise? I.E. I assume they'll do a promotional sort of cruise first with big wigs, TA's, press, etc? On that note, I suppose it's just a matter of time before they do some sort of promotional contest for the Dream...one can hope anyway :thumbsup2

I wonder about that too. We are cruising in June on the NCL's Epic inaugural Trans-Atlantic cruise but before that voyage there are a 1 night and 2 night cruise for Industry folks as well as some paying guests. Once the ship is in NYC, there be few other events for TAs and such. Then it will go to FL for it's inaugural Caribbean cruise and season. So in this case there are quite a few inaugural events. It will be interesting to see what DCL does.

Training would be handed in a few different ways. Some of the staff are already or soon will be (as the ship gets closer to coming home)assigned to the Dream,(Capt Tom, prob the ChEng, and possibly a few others are already there)) and will come home with her. Some of the crew will come from transfers from the Magic and Wonder, which will leave spots that will be backfilled with promotions, and new hires. What ever is left will be hired out side such as wait staff, room stewards etc. Theyll most likely try and balance all of the new crew members, and the senior crew members so that no 1 ship has too many of either.
As far as sea trials I hadnt heard the 2 month number. I was under the assumption that it was only several weeks long. Shell be along side the dock at Papenburg where theyll test what they can,for a about 2 weeks, test the rest at sea after the conveyance, then provision her, put the furniture onboard, and send her on her way. Most of the crew such as cabin stewards, waiters etc wont be onboard for the tests.Theyll come in after that. Technically, the ship is still owned by the shipyard while being tested, and for liability reasons, wont be onboard. Some officers, and bridge crew will be to get some hands on training, as well as engine room staff.By and large, the ship will be staffed by contractors and technicians.

As far as the Inauguaral is concerned, it depends on a few things. They may and have done in the past short cruises to nowhere to work out the kinks and bugs and bring all of the staff up to speed. However, it will depend on how fast the ship is certified by the US Coast Guard, in that all of its protection systems, from alarms, to watertight doors, to back up systems to reponse to simulated issues, etc, is tested and passed.
I dont for see a problem with any of the above, especailly since MW has been delivering ships early, but until the paper is signed off, theres always a chance of something not going as planned.

Here is another web site that shows some photos of blocks for the Dream being fabricated. The photos are ostensibly of the Celebrity Eclipse, which is in the background. In the foreground, however, are blocks for the Dream. In several photos it is easy to spot the unusual sideways orientated Quiet Cove pool, and also the stepped seating area of either the Buena Vista Theater or the Walt Disney Theater. There are a lot of other photos on the site that show the ship yard and the other ships under construction.

Disneyadore, this has been posted on another thread with Dream pictures. I'm going to merge this thread with that one.
Thanks

wow - isn't it amazing how they put these things together.

i wish they'd have some time laps video somewhere

nice :)

what website do you go to to see it

I think it is the quiet cove pool, it is pictured as being sideways across the ship.
