Disney Dream - June 12, 2011

Hi all! :wave2: Not sure how I missed this thread :confused3 but count me in on the 6/12 cruise!

We are frequent WDW goers, but this is our families first ever cruise (Me, DH, DS12, DS8). DH and I will be celebrating our 15th anniversary (which is in August, but I didn't want to cruise then).

My boys and I are flying out on 6/8 and staying at OKW. DH is flying out on 6/11. My boys have NO IDEA we are going on a Disney Cruise. I figured they will find out on Sunday when we are getting on the bus (they just think we are changing resorts). I'm assuming they show "cruise" type movies on the bus like they show WDW type info on Magical Express?

It's getting harder and harder to keep this HUGE secret from them when I'm so excited!!:banana:

Welcome
Keeping it quiet this long is amazing. I booked this trip in early Dec 09 and I had trouble keeping it a secret until Christmas that year. This is our first cruise also so I am glad we will not be the only clueless family.

Hey Everybody, I am so happy it's June! Woo Hoo!

Packing has started and school is almost over. DS Kevin has only 3-1/2 more days of school. Most of the books are turned in and the finals have all been taken. Tomorrow he goes with a team to an Englishfest competition, so that's a fun day out of the building. Then Friday and Monday and Tuesday his half day and done! We leave next Tuesday to stay overnight at a hotel in the airport area. I've been known to miss a plane by not leaving home soon enough, we live 70 miles and two tunnels away, so best to spend the $ to stay overnight and make our flight!

We are new DVC owneres so we will be staying for the first time at BLT and I am so excited to see it. I'm really worried about the heat cutting into my will to tour, but it will be great to be there. Then the Cruise! I am getting really excited. I hope to use tomorrow really well to get the wash done and pack clothes and toiletries.

Michele - I hope that advil worked!
Rose - Did you get dinner done before 9pm?

SINGLE DIGITS! :banana::banana::banana::banana::dance3:

At least for us. We are driving down on Saturday so in out book we are in single digits land. A good place to be! Today is also my last day of work. Our students finished last Friday and us teachers get to turn in keys and go home today! WOO HOO!

I'm so excited about this I woke up early (like one hour early!) HMMMMMMMM what to do? I guess I'll go try to bang out another installment on my trip report!

We leave in 8 days!!!!:banana: We start driving a week from Friday. Will stay Friday night in Lake City, FL, and then continue on to Port Canaveral on Saturday. Even though we're driving instead of flying, still wanted to be in the Port area on Saturday and not take any chances of missing the ship!

Count me in with the other teachers who are wrapping up their year. :teacher:The boys finished last week, and then yesterday was my final day of professional development/inservice. Usually all the teachers spend these final days sitting in meetings and complaining -- but the mood was very different this year.

I know those of you in Texas have heard this hitting the news for the last several months, but for those of you outside our state: Texas will have a $10 billion (yes, that is with a b) shortfall for education this year. There are massive layoffs in lots of school districts in our area (Dallas/Fort Worth). Luckily, my district actually has some really strong financial planners and nobody was forced out. There are several places where an opening created by a retiring employee will go unfilled for next year, and we will certainly not get a raise ... but at least we all still have our jobs.

So now that the school year is officially wrapped, I can finally turn to packing, making shirts and magnets, and all that fun stuff. We leave one week from today!:cheer2:

Count us in the club of leaving one week from today!:banana: I can't believe we're finally so close!

We leave tomorrow!!!! We will drop the dog off for boarding and get the car packed tonight. The kids have that last 1/2 day of school tomorrow (field day), I work tomorrow morning and DH has to work all day. I will get everything locked up at home tomorrow afternoon and the kids and I will pick him up from work right at 4 PM to start the drive to WDW. We plan to drive straight through the night arriving by lunchtime on Saturday. I can't believe it is really here after all this planning. :cool1:

I've spent most the morning trying to get some clothes together and made a WalMart run, but it is TOO dang HOT to do anything!! It's 97 degrees!

:sunny::sunny::sunny:

Who else is feeling the heat wave?????

We are in SC too and it is soooo hot here-96 I think today. We have been in the process of having a new deck built. The builders have really slowed down because of the heat. I'll look outside to see them all sitting in the shade. I can't blame them though. 15 minutes of heat and I'm whining like a baby. It is Thursday now and we are leaving on Sunday for Florida. The builders are almost finished and are waiting for a day of 0% chance of rain before they stain. It is a true test off patients since we leave in just a few days and we really need everything to be done by then. I had no idea that a home improvement project would take over a month to complete. Grrrrrr....

I'm not sure what size deck you are having built, but I just had a new deck (16x25) built (I live in Louisiana) that included built-in benches on two sides and they also replaced the boards on my old steps and handrailing (my house is up on pilings). It took them 2 weeks from start to finish and out of those 2 weeks they actually worked 5 days. Oh, and they had to tear down an old deck (much smaller) first. Seems like they are dragging the job along. I hope you are not paying them by the hour.

But, anyway, I hope they finish up in time. It's so nice to have a nice, new, big deck!! After the cruise, I want to plant some plants/flowers around and get a table and chairs, and a new grill. Might need to work a little overtime after the cruise!!

Hi, I just came across this forum and we are so excited to be doing our first Disney Cruise 6/12. I wish I found you all months ago! I've been lurking around the past couple of days and see lots of great suggestions on this site.

Can't wait for our Dream Vacation to begin!:dance3:

Flowers are going to look so good planted! What a great idea. I wish I had a green thumb and could actually keep plants and flowers alive. My sister-in-law calls our yard the place "where plants come to die".
No, we are not paying them by the hour (thank God). They had to do the first part of the job-tearing down our old deck and then building the new one but leaving the rails off of the left side so our hot tub could be delivered. A week or so later (after finishing another job at another location) they came back to finish off the rail and the lattice around the bottom. They have been working on and off for the last month. I can't wait for it all to be done. All of our old deck furniture in strewn around the yard and I'm sure it is an eyesoar to our neighbors. I would hate to have it be another two weeks before it can all be cleaned up.

Are boogie boards allowed at Castaway Cay? I am seeing all these mixed things about it. I am reading that there are not really any waves but my daughter still wants to bring hers just to float around.

Ok, I am REALLLY going to call it an early night tonight! Thumper has invaided my head and I'd really wish he'd hop on over to the Hundred Acre Woods and visit Pooh Bear instead! Ugh....or maybe it's Roo bouncing around....where is his Mother?? LOL

Good Night!!

Hi. Yeppers! we have 11 year old triplets. Two girls and one boy all fraternal. DS, I swear, wants to be Mickey when he grows up. We are doing the cruise and then heading over to WDW for a few days after.

I'm really curious about the tween club. The kids will be the right age, but since they don't start middle school until next year, I'm wondering if they'd be more comfortable in the regular kids club. We've been watching the videos and of course AFV is a staple on Sunday nights. Boy that ship looked crowded last week.

Anyone else with tweeners? Would love to have the kids make some new friends!

My son and your husband could talk stuff together. Sean is always building a new computer or fixing one for someone or upgrading his or mine (which was his old project).
He's going to college for computer engineering, so it's a perfect fit.
We have computer parts (some not working that someone needs to drop off at a recycling center.... guess who that's gonna be:rolleyes1:headache:)
all over the house and screws and brackets etc.... seems to be in most rooms of the house!:headache:

Rose, Tracy is also a computer "geek" as he calls it :) He built his computer and is going to build Hagan one too. (for gaming - they play W.O.W. and Battlefield) :rolleyes1

We don't have a lot of brackets and parts lying around, though.. at the moment. When the new "project" starts, there will be all kinds of computer innards and carcasses everywhere  I'll stick with my Apple iMacs!!! :thumbsup2
