Disney Dream - June 12, 2011

someone mentioned we don't have a name or theme for this cruise....

Double Dippin' Dreamers

Double Dippers Dominate the Dream

Double Dippin' on the Dream

Double Dippin' is a Dream

Double the pleasure, Double the fun
Two stops at Castaway Cay are better than one!

Castaway Cay is oh, no nice!
Admiral Donald will take us there twice!

Anyone else got anything???
Disney Dreaming....
Michele

I'm not quite as clever as you, so I'd take one of yours!:thumbsup2
I do like Double Dippin' Dreamers

And both rhymes!:thumbsup2

Perhaps I could work on a logo sometimes:rolleyes1
(when I finish all my other projects:rolleyes:)
We'll see....
Unless someone comes up with something else in the meantime.

I mean we gotta have shirts for our meet and greet don't we?!:woohoo:

Out to shovel again:headache: Only 2 inches today!

Sean comes home from CA today. His flight was cancelled and rescheduled again! Just like on his way out there after Christmas.
NYC just has been getting hit with snow they're not prepared to handle.

So he'll only be home for the weekend and then I drive him back to college on Monday:goodvibes

Well, it will be a very long time before I do a "snow dance" again! We are out again tomorrow which makes a whole week  We are already off on Monday for MLK day so that means we will be off 1 day less for this snow than we did for Christmas break:sad2:
With so much time on my hands I noticed that alot of people are interested in the FE, but we do not have an organizer yet. I have never done a FE before, but found anothe Dis'er who sent me her spreadsheet. So...if ya'll can be patient with me I am willing to try to co-ordianate the FE (unless someone else wants it, and then I will gladly let you do it!:thumbsup2) Let me know if ya'll want me to start it up so we can get preliminary numbers and see if we need to split into groups. For all of us snowed in, stay safe and warm!

To everyone that has kids that have missed school due to the Snow Storm, especially my fellow southerners:

Making up days at the end of the year due to snow has never really been a problem here. But now, that my DD has missed 4 days because of the snow, they will have to add those days on at the end of the year. Her last day was supposed to be June 7th, but now by the time they add on the make up days, the last day will actually be June 13th. we were planning to leave for Fl. on the last day of school and spend a couple days at Disney before the cruise. (guess we'll re-think a different schedule now)

Just was wondering if anyone is concerned about the schools extending the calendar and having to keep the kids out of school the last few days. I am definately not wanting to re-book for another date, because this cruise is falling on my DD's 16th birthday!!! But I have never really kept her out of school. We always went to Disney during Spring Break.

Curious to everyone's thought on this.
Thanks

Being a 5th Grade teacher, I have kids doing vacations during school all the time. We make it work. There isn't a whole lot of learning going on the last few days of school, especially if they are added days to the calendar. The only problem I see is if there are finals those last few days. I would bet that if you talked to the principal and teacher(s) and told them you've spent every last drop of money you had on this vacation, they will find a way to let you go!:thumbsup2

Right now we have 6 snow days to make up. We should still get out before Memorial Day, but I've already told them at school that I WILL be on that boat when it leaves port!

I was wondering about how all the snow was going to affect school ending. We don't have to worry about that here. When we had an ice storm 3 or 4 years ago, they just had to go to school on one of their scheduled holidays (I think president's day) then 1 extra day at the end. My son graduates June 2 so we are ok.

About the teen clubs, my younger son went to one on our last cruise when he was 15 (different cruise line) and he went to the 1st night meet and greet and he and a few other kids just hung out throughout the cruise rather than always staying in the club. They explored the ship, etc. The teen club can be just a place for them to meet up. He really enjoyed this part of the cruise.

Tell your teens to check it out the first night, they will probably love it.

The various pictures of the Dream that have been posted are amazing!! We really can't wait!

Oh, when can we book spa and excursions if we haven't been on a Disney cruise before? How far out. I want to make sure I have the balance paid so I can make ressies. Thanks!!:)

I think that's what Rowan is planning - going to the first meet & greet, find some friends then go from there. My husband & I are trying to set up the ground rules for her - curfew, etc. - since we know she's bound to be just hanging out around the ship.

As for booking things, I've sailed once on DCL and I'm pretty sure we can book on March 14th. Final payment is absolutely due no later than March 29th. Not sure if you'd be able to book before then if you've never sailed DCL before but I can't imagine you're booking window opening any later than that.

I nominate you to be in charge of the FE!!

As everyone sends in their name, info, etc., please contact the OP of this thread and she can add everything to the first page, for quick reference. I am looking forward to the FE! We did it on a previous Disney cruise and it was so much fun! Plus, my DD will be celebrating her 16th while on board, so I know she'll be excited to get those little "extras" every day!!

Hello my name is Tricia! So are you the official orgainzer of the FE? This is our first Disney Cruise and we are extremely excited :yay: and can't wait to participate in all the fun party:activities including the FE exchange. What information do you need from the participants?

Beth, I would be happy to co-coordinate with you for the FE. This is only our second Dis cruise, so I definitely was worried about coordinating myself. Many months ago, I downloaded deckplans and started adding mickey head icons to show where everyone is.

Here is my idea for the logo that I posted about a year ago. I want to clean it up if we decide to go with this. If not, my feelings will not be hurt. I'm also open to any suggestions, especially the logo. Michelle, you had several great ideas.

I thought I remembered deck plans with rooms marked!:woohoo: I will be glad to get the info and keep the spreadsheet and then maybe ,DMMom, you and I could could get all the info mapped out and figure out how to split into groups if needed and hopefully provide the map for everyone to see/use. Once we get number of cabins, kids and adults participating we can determine if we want any limits/specifics laid out or just go with the flow.
I will start entering info into a spreadsheet as soon as I start receiving it. It would probably be best if you pm me. So if you want to participate in the FE please send me your family last name, adults first name and gender; kids name, age and gender; cabin number; and email address if you would like to keep in touch with others after the cruise (I could make roster with names and emails for everyone participating);any celebrations- please be specific; and Dis name.
This should be fun!

I'm starting to check things off the list: got a car reservation, hotel rooms before and after, meal reservations at WDW.
Wednesday: We are flying in, getting a car from Avis at the airport, going to the Contemporary, eating at Waves (has anyone ever had dinner there?) and maybe going to downtown disney.
Thursday: Going to Epcot, having lunch at Le Cellier and undecided for dinner (open to suggestions of quick service). We decided not to do the dining this time since Sydney is a picky eater and would definitely not eat enough to be worth paying the adult price.
Friday: Going to MK and trying to take the kids on Space Mountain for the first time (Sydney is afraid of roller coasters with drops, but she does like Big Thunder Mtn), probably just eat at Columbia House and Cosmic Ray then driving to the port that night (CI&S)
Saturday: Hanging out by the pool at CI&S and maybe the beach.
Sunday: Turn in the car on Sunday morning and take the shuttle to the ship to get there and be in one of the first groups.
Friday: After the cruise, going to KSC for the day and then drive back and stay at the Hilton by the airport and leave 7am Saturday morning.
I can't wait. Next, decision what to do at the Nassau and CC. Not counting on Palos this time. It sounds like most of the reservations are being taken quickly and we don't get to make reservations until 90 days out. Luckily I can make the chocolate souffle with vanilla sauce, so we can survive.

Oh... I love the logo, but maybe with Double Dippin' Dreamers
or I also like...
Double the pleasure, Double the fun
Two stops at Castaway Cay are better than one!
(with the same picture)
I'm easy, so anything anyone else likes will be great!:goodvibes

I'm fine with the logo, but was wondering if you could add Minnie?? I am going to send a PM with my info! In addition to the info, could you please add a side-note if there's a celebration in the room and also add everyone's Dis name? Thanks!!

Thank you both for coordinating the FE.:banana: I think the logo is very cute.

THanks FE organizers. We're definitely in, will get the info pm'd soon. I just saw on the forum that concierge level rooms are gated and not accessible by the general population...so wonder how that'll work with FE's.

Our schools were out all week and now Monday is MLK day.... My wife has been to work 4 days in January! It was 50 today, so we're finally pretty much melted.

My wife and I have been looking at the excursions and we're not sure about doing anything with a toddler in tow. Any recommendations?

Just booked two nights at CI&S for before the cruise. Got the "park and cruise" special. We have always left our car at the port but thought we would try to leave it with the hotel this time and save a little money. Hopefully it is secure.

Does anyone know if the shuttle if first come, first served? I would imagine around 10 AM it would be a long line. Do we need to call the hotel to reserve a particular shuttle time?

DMMom - My daughter & I ate lunch at Waves shortly after it opened and we both loved it. Can't remember how the lunch and dinner menus differ though. We both had salads and they were HUGE! Everything was very tastey and fresh.

Foohpah - I've never done a "park & cruise" but I think for some hotels you do schedule which shuttle you are on. I'd call the hotel and find out how they do it there.

All this talk about people doing WDW before or after the cruise has me "home" sick, LOL. And we were just there in October. Going to make Le Cellier Cheese soup and pretzel rolls for dinner tonight. Maybe that will help.

Rebecca- When I was trying to decide where to stay before the cruise, I read that for Country Inn and Suites you register for the shuttle when you check in. We ended up staying at the Radisson as my DD said that it was our "pre-cruise tradition". I also like the fact that once I had the ressie, I could call and get on the shuttle schedule. We are scheduled for the first shuttle trip over to the port at 10:00!:yay:

We actually got out of the house yesterday and we are leaving now to meet my parents for lunch, so we are finally thawing ou!

6/12 Double Dippers don't forget to PM me you info if you want to participate in the FE :)

We stayed at the Radisson in 2006 and had red ants in our room and the front desk didn't seem too concerned. We didn't see them until we were getting ready to leave that morning. We got out of there pretty quickly after that and decided we would try somewhere else in the future. In 2008 we stayed at the Sheraton Four Points and it was ok but there is no parking option there.

I think we have decided to do the Caribbean Queen Snorkeling Tour in Nassau that afternoon. Hoping most people will do morning excursions so we can spend that time maybe riding the Aquaduck and enjoying the pools.

Thank you so much Bairdbeth and DMMom! Bairdbeth, I sent you a PM with my info. The kids had such a blast participating in a FE a couple summer's ago. Making little gifts was a big part of our preplanning, and delivering them felt like a treasure hunt! Gotta start thinking of something good...:woohoo:

I have a request, if anyone is interested? I have a 13 y.o. DD, and I met a couple of other Mom's on the board who had similar age kiddos on a previous cruise. In the past, we had the kids 'meet' on the board and get to know each other before the cruise. Is there any interest in starting a teen/tween thread? I saw a couple other Meets with one specifically for their kids. What do you think? Not sure how to set this up, or if it is better to just have the Mom's meet and maybe let the kids email with supervision? :confused3 I will say that getting to know other teens made a huge difference and my DD loved having some friends to meet on Day 1.

Looking forward to meeting you all!
