Disney Dream - June 12, 2011

Yours will probably be in today's mail. :goodvibes

That sounds really good. We actually attempted a white chocolate covered ham. It sounds really disgusting, but the white chocolate actually added the sweetness to the ham - - it was surprisingly a success. :goodvibes

Welcome to squirrelgirl -- I will get you added to the first page. :cheer2:

We got a new addition to our family on Saturday - a little kitten. He is the sweetest little thing -- he loves attention, has a great personality, and loves my DD. We rescued him and he's not the cutest little thing, but his personality more than makes up for his looks. :rotfl:

Wow, white chocolate ham? Interesting!

Anyone else get their cruise planning booklet thing? It was nice to get something from DCL, even if the cruise is still a year and a 2 months away.

We didn't get any kind of cruise planning booklet. I wonder if it is because we are booked with a TA?

I don't think it'll make a difference since we are booked with a TA through DreamsUnlimited....maybe you'll get yours on Monday. There's not anything in there that is that important. They do list your date that you can start booking things and the final payment date, but other than that, I didn't see anything in the booklet that you wouldn't find else where.

I booked with DreamsUnlimited also, but I didn't receive anything from DCL. I'm disappointed that I have been forgotten.:sad2:

You know...... I booked through DU also, but then I went onto DCL to check my reservation on their site and through there I believe they must have sent the booklet.

Try that.:goodvibes

I booked through them and got mine too. Maybe you should email your agent just to let them know.

I have to say it would be a lot more exciting if it had actual pics from the Dream! It still seems very generic since the ship is still being built.

Have a great day everyone!

Sorry to be out of the loop for so long everyone - way too long since I last checked in. We just got our DCL Bahamas booklet and can't wait. This is our 3rd Disney Cruise, but the first to the Bahamas. In the past we have taken the Magic on 7 days. This time we will spend some time in the World either before or after - Which do you all think is better? I always assume it is best to do the World before, then the cruise so you are totally relaxed.... Any other pros/cons?

Yup -- that's exactly how I feel. When I get off the ship, the last thing I want to do is deal with the craziness of the parks, so, if we are going to do parks, it is always a couple days before the cruise. Have a great time (I know I'm counting the days until our September cruise this year). :rolleyes1

Sounds like you are doing the same as our family. We have been on 2 Magic cruises, too, so this is our first cruise to the Bahamas as well. I'm not sure which is better, parks before or after, but my thinking would be to go before the cruise if for no other reason than you may miss some of the bigger crowds since some schools may still be in session up until mid-June. After the cruise it's probably a sure bet that everyone is out and the crowds escalate exponentially (that's just a theory on my part, we always try to go to WDW off season so I don't know first hand).

Speaking of the Bahamas cruises, if anyone else here has been and has gone to Atlantis, can you give me your feedback? If I remember correctly the excursion to Atlantis is very expensive and I'm just having a hard time thinking that it could be so great as to spend close to $1K on a day...but just wanted to hear what others have to say. I know my family is going to want to do it, but I'm struggling with paying so much for it...

We also have done mostly cruises on the Magic, and said we'd never do a shorter one because we were dissappointed to go on the Wonder and get less time when we tried that, but decided that getting to see the Dream was worth missing a couple of nights on board! We love Atlantis! We've visited just for the day (doing the cruise tour, as well as booking a room there directly) and have done a 3 night stay. We are also doing a 7 night this summer. It is truly a terrific place! To save money, a lot of people look for either a room deal directly with Atlantis and just go for the day, or book a good rate at the Comfort Suites (has privileges with Atlantis). You just need to check the rules on how many wristbands Comfort gives with a room to make sure you have enough for your family.

I agree with wanting to see the Dream! I really wish 7 night cruises were an option but I guess 5 nights is the best we'll be able to do until 2012! I really don't want to put off cruising on a new ship for 2 years.

Glad to hear how much your family enjoyed Atlantis. So are you flying down for 7 nights this summer? Is that what you meant by 7 nights this summer? Wow, sounds like a great time...

:thumbsup2

Yes we are flying down in August between football camp and the start of football practice. (Yes, those are two different things. One is an open camp for anyone in DFW and the other one is just for players in our school.) Can't wait!

And I love your DIS screen name -- mine should be Iworkforschoolandtravel. Both of my kids are incredibly bright but have learning differences, so they go to the largest school in the world for kids with learning differences. We are lucky to have it fairly near us (50 miles). When we built our house, we weren't planning on having to have the kids in private school. Hence I work for their tuition and our travel!

Hey -- did y'all see this on facebook today?

"Hey DCL fans, today we revealed details of a new adult-only, deluxe dining experience that is sure to delight our guests aboard the Disney Dream. It's called Remy! Click the link to see details of this unique culinary experience. Can you spot the petite star from "Ratatouille" subtly incorporated into the design of the dining room?"

I saw that too Marci! My question is, is it in ADDITION to Palo or in PLACE of Palo?? Looks wonderful!!

I would be interested in getting the recipe for the White Chocolate Ham. I like white chocolate and I like ham, not so sure I'd like them together, but I am willing to try!!!

We've had beautiful weather for spring break! It has been in the 80s all week, up until today. we had a cold front push through and now it's in the 50s! Brrr!!! LOL May have to put one last fire in the fireplace tonight!

Took Connor to see How To Train Your Dragon today. Cute story! Then we went to BW3's for lunch. Yummy!!! I, of course, had a coupon!

Colton comes home tomorrow and I can't wait to wrap my arms around him! We've been talking and texting, but it's just not the same. Seems like they are having a great time, but he also sounds exhausted. They have kept them on the move from 8am to 11pm every day. Keeps 'em out of trouble though! The bus leaves at 11 tonight, they arrive about 3 tomorrow. I pray for safe travels.

Well, off to get Connor from lifting. I hope this finds everyone happy and healthy!

Yes, I also saw the FB post about Remy. I was wondering the same - whether it's in addition to Palo or instead of Palo. Anyway, I can't wait to go nonetheless! I wish I had Castaway Club status that would allow booking even earlier than the 90 day mark, I'm sure it will fill up fast!

Marci, that was good luck in building your house close to a school that your children go to. It's funny how things just seem to happen for a reason and it's not always clear right away why, huh? I don't know exactly how I came up with my screen name, it just sort of popped into my head, and really it's quite true that most of my money does go towards travel. I totally love traveling and want our family to do as much as we can while DD is young enough to enjoy the company of her parents - ha ha!:rotfl:

Weather has been great here too! Into the 90's in the southeast! It has felt like summer and I only wish the pool would have been open this week.

I would sooo miss my DD if she were gone for a week. I know it will be wonderful to have your DS home today.

Although my BF says it sounds overpriced for a little bit of food.
He's a big guy and can eat a lot, so those photos did nothing for him.

But I was wondering since no one seemed to mention $$$...... Palo was only an extra $10 pp. Do you think Remy will be that way as well? Or prices like Victoria and Alberts?

:woohoo: I finally received my booklet from DCL!! Don't know why mine took so long. Now all we have to do is wait 1 year, 2 months and 3 days until time to Cruise!!!:yay: We are so excited.

One year, 2 months and 2 days?? Seems so long!! Isn't funny how some things in life just fly by and other things take forever?? Like I can't believe Colton is 15, where did the years go?? But waiting this long for the cruise seems like it will be forever!!!

I am not sure if we'll go to Remy? With having so much family with us, I am sure we'll have dinner with them every night. Now if there is a lunch or brunch, then maybe we can do that. I hope that the charge is not much more than $10/pp. I dunno though. There are restaurants on other ships that charge full price for dinners. I guess we'll have to wait and see!

I am pretty sure we'll be doing the parks after the cruise. The schools are working on new schedules. It used to be that they had to have 180 instructional days between Aug 28 and June 8. With so many snow days the last few years, we were not getting the 180. This year they changed that law. Now school can start earlier and finish later. As of right now, the first day of school is Aug 22 and the last day of school next year is May 27, but we have snow days all the way to June 9. So, possibly we could go up to the 9th. it will just be easier to go to the parks after. I know it will be more crowded and hotter, but we've done it before.

I am sure you all have heard of the mine explosion that happened on Monday. Early this morning, they located the remaining 4 miners. Sadly, they were not found alive. It's been a very hard time here in WV. It seems everyone you talk to knows someone that was there or was killed. Prayers to the families of the fallen.

Time to get busy. I've been waiting for the frost to melt and the grass to dry. I really need to cut grass again. I did it last weekend and it has grown a TON! It'll be bogging down the mower for sure! oh well...

Have a great weekend!
