Disney Dream - June 12, 2011

Steve just called the office of our congresswoman and got us a Capitol tour and they sent our names in for a tour of the White House. They'll let us know 2 weeks before we go! Thanks for the info!!!!

I think we spent almost two hours at the spy museum, and could have spent longer but we packed too much in to this trip!

The boys did like Arlington and the changing of the guard. We also got to see some kind of military parade band thing that is done once a week that was nearby.

Have fun!

Are you talking about the Marines from 8th and I, the Silent Drill Team? They're great!:yay:

I've posted once or twice before, folks, but we've been pretty busy as of late. We are so looking forward to this cruise. Abitagirl, we're from Louisiana, too!! Our hometown is Delcambre, a small town south of Lafayette.:)

Have I missed any important information?

Hello disgrits. My DD and I live in Abita Springs, LA (near Covington; north of New Orleans). Where are you currently living? I don't get to the Lafayette area much, but visited a year or so ago. Can't wait for the cruise. We get to have a taste of Disney next month. We are going to WDW in May, and then counting down to our "Dream" cruise. We previously sailed on the Magic in October, 2007 (DD, DH & I). This time around it's just DD & I. Unfortunately, I lost DH last December. This cruise is a Graduation Celebration for DD. Hope that some of us can meet some time during the cruise.

We have friends who live in Covington. Small world. We are living in Quantico, VA, but we will be moving right about the time of this cruise. We love visiting LA (family, food, fun always), but we are hoping to settle in FL.

So sorry to hear about your loss.

So it seems we have daughters the same age. Has your daughter been planning what she will do after high school? Mine thinks she wants to go to LSU.

Anyway, I hope we can meet up on the cruise; I'm sure we have lots in common.

Thanks, Paige.

Although my daughter is graduating in 2011, she is actually 21 years old. She is a Special Education student with ADHD and learning disabilities. Mentally she is like a teenager. After the cruise, she will most likely get a part-time job.

I have a nephew that goes to LSU. This year is his first year. He seems to like it.

It would be great to meet up on the cruise. When it gets closer we can talk time and place.

I have a dream of some day moving to Florida (to be closer to Disney!). I would love to live close enough to be able to visit WDW more often. (And Florida residents get discounts!!)

Hope you have a great day!

Tammy

Paige,

I just realized that your disboard name looks very familiar. And I think I know why. Although I didn't post alot and did not meet up with everyone, I was on the October 20, 2007 Western Caribbean Disney Magic cruise. I believe I remember you from that disboard thread. I took that cruise with my husband and my daughter. It was a wonderful cruise with alot of wonderful memories.

Hopefully this time around, I will post more and actually get to know everyone, and hopefully meet at least some.

Again, have a great day!

Tammy

Yes, I was on that cruise! So were some of our fellow cruisers from this cruise... Scouter (Rose) and dizneycrazy4 (Janice)...

You have a great day, too!:goodvibes

Wow, it has been forever since i checked out this thread. Our group is amazing. I have to admit i did not read all the posts but i jumped through and read many, I have a lot of catching up to do :thumbsup2 Did we decide on a theme/picture/etc? I really really liked the very first beach scene with the ice cream cones, but it seemed that maybe that was not the "one" anymore.

I know it is a very very very long time away but i have to start brainstorming for FE gifts for three staterooms and want to be sure I am thinking the right theme.

My girls still do not know about this cruise. We are hoping to keep it secret until Christmas but we have had a couple of very near misses so time will tell. I am looking so forward to telling them, but I know how horrible the wait seems for me, I think it will be worse if they knew now too. Keep your fingers crossed my surprise does not get spoiled. Once we tell them I hope to find them some kids there ages to email back and forth with so they will "kinda" know others before getting on the ship. Have any of you tried this before?

I so wish we were getting on the ship today, it seems so lonnnnnngggggggggggggggg away.

Just wanted to drop in and say "Hi". :wave2:I have not been around in a while. I hope after our vacation next month to start planning our "Dream" cruise. Hope everyone is doing well.

So it is May 1st, which is like FE day in Iowa. The kids get May baskets from friends and neighbors filled with assorted goodies. I put a construction paper handle on a rice crispy treat and a flower sticker. Got me in the mood to think about FE gifts. They snuck up on me last time.

Time to get ready to take DS to his baseball game.

Have a great weekend.

Wow! 37 pages!! Are we going to shoot for 100 by next June? :) We just recently booked a 4 night on the Dream for Feb. 20, 2011. I believe this will be the 5th cruise for the Dream so we are very excited! Some friends of ours who just joined DVC got us a verandah room with their points as a thanks for us taking them with us this past February to WDW. They had so many points given to them that they couldn't use this year and that couldn't be banked so they decided on the cruise. We have adjoining verandah rooms! We have never had a verandah room so we are definitely stoked about that! DW is concerned about it as we will have a 2 year (nearly 3) in the room with us. I am trying to assure he that Evan will be fine! We have another cruise already booked for December 19 of this year. Is it bad we already have 3 cruises booked for our almost 2 year old and he hasn't even been on one yet?? :) hahahahaha!!!!

After 5 Magic/Wonder big family cruises... we all couldnt wait untill 2011 for a Disney Cruise anymore..so we when ahead and booked a 2010 Disney Wonder Cruise...LOL

We are all busting in the seams waiting for this "Dream" cruise!!!!!!!!!!!

I know what you mean - - we had to book a September cruise this year because we just couldn't wait until 2011. And, it will be nice to be on the Wonder for one last hurrah because I'm quite sure once we sail on the Dream, we won't want to be on any other ship.

And, it will be nice to be on the Wonder for one last hurrah

We all agree...since the Wonder is heading out West, and we live in Florida....We are also taking a "Good-bye to the Wonder" cruise in October 2010...LOL We have been on so many cruises with the "Wonder"...she will be missed... But we are so happy that we are on a Disney "Dream" cruise.... At last count. it's 25 of our family is going....ages range from 3 to 87.... Oh boy so many.....

Scouter,
Today I picked up a book at Borders. It's called Top 10 Washington, DC by DK Eyewitness Travel. It lists the top 10 of everything. The Hyatt that we choose is #9 of the top 10 luxery hotels! Yay us! LOL The number one Historic hotel is the Willard Intercontinental, the luxery is Grand Hyatt Washington, the Moderatly priced is the Latham and the number one budget is The District hotel. Oh and the number one child friendly is Holiday Inn Capitol. Anything else I can answer, let me know!
Michele

Thanks!
I'm going to pick up that book myself!

For those going to DC -- have you checked your Congressman's website to see what free tours they can set up for you? Often times, they are the same tours that are open to the public, except with subtle changes like guided tours instead of walk through on your own, etc. We took our boys, then 12 and 9 a couple of years ago, and they had a terrific time. I'm also there a couple of times a year on business so if you have questions, I might be able to give some advice on what worked well for us.

Thanks for that reminder!
I had read about that in the travel book I bought, it's on my list of things to do!

Hi Rose. Not too many fellow cruisers on the CC boards. This one is much more active. I'm really excited today because I just received my Mickey Mail for the trip to WDW that my daughter and I are taking next month. Only 31 more days to go. Wish the cruise was that close!

Funny but I found the DIS boards way before CC.
And luckily so, because they are so much better!:goodvibes
(Although if you're not traveling Disney, then what else can you do?)

It looks like our cruise meet is doing double-duty as a touring DC advice thread. Our family is also making the trip this summer.

Marci, our boys will be 11 and 9, so I am especially interested to hear what were the favorite spots for your boys. We have already been in touch with our congressman's office to arrange White House and Capitol tours. Of course, the monuments and memorials will be part of our plan -- we're thinking about one of the moonlight bus or trolley tours. I imagine the only Smithsonian museums we will hit will be Air & Space, American History, and probably Natural History. Other thoughts ?

Holly

:thumbsup2

Dream and DC thread:rotfl:

I'm hoping to also go the the Holocaust museum and the spy museum too.
