Disney Dream - June 12, 2011

Morning everyone

I was checking yesterday for possible upgrades. There were some Cat4's open which would give us a bit more room and a round tub. In the end I decided not to spend more money on the room but is it sad that one of the pro's I had listed to moving to a Cat 4 was that we didn't have one on our Progressive Dis Room Tour?

Rowan is home sick today. She's been complaining of a sore throat for the last couple of days. Today she was hard to wake up and ask if she could stay home - something she never does. Hoping its just a bad case of allergies and not something worse. Weather here has been playing havoc with our allergies. On an up note *warning Mommy brag coming* we were able to see the scores for her 1st attempt at the SAT. She just needs to bring her combined Math & Reading scores up 30 more points to be automatically accepted to her 1st choice college on an academic admit basis. So we're thinking she should be able to be accepted under the review process (normal admission) with little to no problem. Not her dream school but its her #1 realistic choice and its where I went so I'm happy that things are looking good for her to go there

How wonderful for Rowan on the scores! Sorry she's sick today though. Allergies have been wreaking havok on us, also.. hopefully that's all it is.

We had a Cat 4 on our Magic cruise. We liked the balcony but really didn't use it as much as I thought we would. It was nice to dry our swimsuits out there, though. We have a porthole this time (I love that they are so BIG on the Dream!) so we will have a view, plus the split bath/round tub.

Yay!!! It's Friday!!! 10 more Fridays and we will be leaving to make our way to Port Canaveral. Since I will be the sole driver, I decided to take 2 days to drive to the Port. I just can't drive more than 8 hours at a time. We will arrive at the Port on Saturday and stay at the Radisson.

I'm also driving solo!!!! But I usually drive straight through, even though it is very hard to do, but it's even harder driving home!! We have about a 9 hour drive. We're driving in on Thursday and staying offsite near Disney. I've got to do some birthday shopping for DD's 16th birthday!! We will probably go to MK on Friday or Saturday.

We have been booked for a while but waiting to make sure the dates were going to work. But we made final payment so we are on board.
It is me (Lynn) my DH (Brad) DS (Frank/18) and DD (Nikki/15)

We are in 6672/6670. I had always planned to add my son's friend to one of our rooms for a Graduation gift but was told almost impossible on the Dream. I have been calling everyday but no luck. So for now just the 4 of us. I hope I am just under the wire to get in on the fish extenders. We would like to be included.

I have tried to go back an start at the front of the post to read up on everybody but I have only gotten to page 32. Just a little about us to catch you up. We live in Daytona Beach about an hour and 45 mins from the port. Been on the Wonder and the Magic but not the Dream yet. Frank is a Senior and Nikki is a Freshman in High School. Brad and I both like anything to do with aviation.

Sounds like you guys are a fun group and we are happy to be a part of it.

As far as the FE goes, bairdbeth is in charge of that so you'll need to PM her all of your info and here's her instructions:

I will start entering info into a spreadsheet as soon as I start receiving it. It would probably be best if you pm me. So if you want to participate in the FE please send me your family last name, adults first name and gender; kids name, age and gender; cabin number; and email address if you would like to keep in touch with others after the cruise (I could make roster with names and emails for everyone participating);any celebrations- please be specific; and Dis name.

I kind of did the same thing and waited to jump in here when I was sure we'd be doing this cruise. I'm Angela, my DH is Tracy and we have 2 kids coming, DD Rhee (11) and DS Hagan (9). We have a DS (18) also (Chris) but he won't be joining us this time. This is our 2nd Disney cruise.

I just read the thread on the main board about people joining the meet cruise forum to get the FE gifts. I hope no one will think that of us. I just didn't want to get to excited and start following the meet group every day until I knew we were for sure going. But everyone on here sounds like the more the merrier so I think I am ok.

So funny to see your room numbers listed. We are in 7670 & 7672 -- so I guess if you hear too much noise coming from the rooms above you, you will know who to blame.

I was talking to a lady at work today who was inquiring about the costs of a cruise. When I was explaining the tips she asked if we paid them in cash or what. I explained in the past I had because i did not decide how much extra I wanted to give until the end and did not want to wait in lines to pay. I also felt that by paying cash the crew received their money right away instead of waiting for pay cycles.

She brought up some questions I had never considered: How does the crew get all that cash to a bank or such? Also it does seem now that she brings it up that they potentially could have a large sum of "cash" on hand and she inquired about their safety and security of their money.

What do all of you do and what are you thoughts on the above?

I can't believe we are only 10 weeks away from the cruise. Seems so long but also I realize i really need to get moving on FE gifts, magnets, and other little projects.

Hi Lynn,,, Also Ewinme!!! Lynn,,, we added Billy(19) and Kathleen(20) not too long ago. It was touchy. I wasn't sure that we would be able to add them. I kept looking at the web site to see if rooms would appear and also would call member services with DVC to call DCL and see if any space would open up. Without warning, space opened up. Caught me off guard. I was sure that I wasn't going to be able to add them. Well , they are in. Don't just check the web site, call DCl and also your travel agent if you have one. I was checking four or five times a day for months.
We don't take a lot of cash with us. We put the tips on our credit cards and it always goes smoothly. There are safes in the rooms that you keep your important things inside.
Don't forget the room tour if you are interested.
