Disney Dream - June 12, 2011

Having done years as Den Leader and Cub Master I really love the pinewood derby entry. Hope he placed well.

His derby is tomorrow. He really does not care about speed. His goal was to do well in the design division. I think he has a decent shot at it. Of course we are probably a bit biased.

I am thinking the Aquaduck thing will not make sense to the judges potentially. Unless you are familiar with the Dream it probably just looks very strange. Here is hoping for a Disney loving judge... :thumbsup2

Good luck! As a Webelos den leader and mom to three scouts, I can tell you that our Pinewood Derby cars (and Raingutter Regatta boats) have always been more about aesthetics rather than aerodynamics. My boys' cars have won "Best Design" awards a couple of times -- but we seem to always be among the first eliminated when it comes to race day.

Oh well ... the boys always have fun coming up with their ideas. Actually, we had a Mickey pirate ship pirate: for Raingutter Regatta this year.

I haven't been on here at all, I apologize. We just figured out who's going so I'm jumping back in. :yay:

We originally booked 2 rooms for 6 of us, but now it will be me, DH (Tracy), Rhiannon (11) and Hagan (9) going.. we'll be in room 9656 or 9654 (pending final adjustments) :thumbsup2

I know we are getting in late - but can we still join in on the FE's? :confused3

I would be grateful- we did a last minute booking or the 2009 cruise so we missed out on them. :sad2:

Happy to be here..and terribly excited!!

Hi Angela:wave:

Glad to hear that Tracy is going, but sad that Chris isn't.
Sean and he could have hung out together.

Did you do your online bookings yet?

You're quite welcome Angela. So that's what it's called: "cruise mode". I think I've been in cruise mode ever since I booked a year and half ago!! Of course, now I'm in "super cruise mode"!! But I haven't started packing yet! How close to the trip do all of you start packing??

I'm with you Tammy, I've been in cruise mode for over a year, but now in hyperdrive!:hyper:

I usually don't pack till a few days before, or I would forget what I have in there anyway, or need to still buy stuff or need to wear what's in the suitcase.

I know, Rose - I thought about you guys with those in between-age kids and I'm sorry Chris won't be with us this time. :sad2: He is living on his own now and just can't afford to take that much time from work. Tracy thought he might be training that week out of town, but he's not. :thumbsup2 I was ALMOST ready to cancel  and book a different cruise which would have broken my heart!

I put in a request 2 days ago to DU for them to take over my ressies and change them for me, but no one has gotten back to me yet. :confused3 Kinda ticks me off because I can't do anything online until they fix it.

I know you guys will appreciate this. This is my son's Pinewood Derby car this year.

HAHA, yes, as Rose said - it's "hyper mode" now. :rotfl:

I need new door magnets! an FE!! Gifts! :hyper:

I actually will start "gathering" cruise items like toiletries, etc. some time in May, but I won't really pack much as far as clothes until about a week before. I'll be wearing everything I'm packing since it's a June cruise. Last time it was October so I was putting summer stuff in earlier :)

Another milestone on the weight loss journey. This morning I hit the 210 mark, down 28 pounds from Christmas and 42 overall. My orginally goal was 215 by the cruise, now I'm gunning to get under 200. I haven't been under 200 since I was in college almost 20 years ago!

Excellent!:thumbsup2

I read on another post that sometimes Dis'ers will try to get together and get their dining reservations linked so they can sit together. I thought that would be a great idea, so you can "know" who you're sitting with.

So I was wondering, would anyone on here want to link ressies with me & DD.
Maybe a single parent & teen, or a family with teens? We have the late dining assignment, by the way.

I think we're finally deciding on our hotel. I was debating on staying at the port or near Disney. The school district just decided to "forgive" the last few snow make up days. So now, I think we'll drive down a few days early, stay near Disney (probably off-site), and go to Magic Kingdom and Downtown Disney.

Anyone else going to Disney before the cruise???

We already have a few tables with friends, but I'm sure someone else here would join you.
In fact that is how I did it on our 2007 cruise. I asked Janice and Mark and kids to sit with Sean and I and now we're cruising again together and we're tablemates again:hug:

We're doing Typhoon Lagoon the day before the cruise and then park hopping the day after the cruise.

Good thinking. It is never too late to start. I'm trying to just maintain what I lost from surgery and the "bad" chemo treatments. The newest treatments come with larger doses of steroids that can make some people gain weight, but I haven't so far. Maybe it's the motivation of the trip that is helping me as well.

That's great news Marci:thumbsup2:cool1:

How are you feeling though? Tired?

Yes, my son did those Pinewood Derbys also, many years ago.
And I'd forgotten until now about the Raingutter Regatta! That was fun too.
They did that one outside on a warm day and afterward the kids(scouts and their siblings and some adults too!) got out squirt guns and water balloons and had a great time:goodvibes

Thanks for reminding me of that fun memory!

Wow! He's on his own now? Cool!
Mine won't be for at least another 2 years. When he finishes college.

Glad you're still coming though:hug:

Who did your reservations before?
If you're already paid off can't you still do stuff online on your own?

Same here, but I'm skipping the tag this time.
But I've got all my stuff for printing the magnets, just need to do it soon.

When I'm not working all this overtime!

I'll probably start packing the week before we leave. Unless I come across something that I want to bring that I won't need now. I don't think I need to buy anything else, but who knows, I may see something I want!!

I have all of my designs for magnets thanks to the great DISigners on these boards, but I still to print them.

Although I haven't actually started packing yet, I have been going over sample packing lists to see if there is anything that I still need to buy. I have only come across a few minor things: need an extra SD card for my camera; Bonine; maybe Seabands (never tried them but might this time). Still need to check my clothes (make sure they still fit), but I think DD and I are okay with the summer clothes we have.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend so far!!

Ashman,
Congratulations on the weight loss!!! I have been trying to lose some also. It is so hard to do. I've got the "under 200" goal for the cruise. Hopefully, I can make it.

I love the boat modeled after the dream!!! It is so creative! My boys never did scouts, they are musicians and were/are marching band.

My younger son and I are getting ready for our trip to New York. His high school Honors band is playing Carnagie Hall. I'm going as a Chaperone Band Mom. We are so excited.
Then we get to come home and plan for the Dream:dance3::cool1:

I like others who have posted have been in "Cruise Mode" almost since I booked the cruise in Nov 2009:rotfl:

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Anyone doing this?
It might motivate me...I like to joke I only run when I'm being chased; but this might be fun.
DD (10) is also interested.
The weather in DFW is mild now so it's perfect training weather.

Would love to be able to do something like that but the mind says yes and the body says no. Might see if I can interest my granddaughter in it though. She lettered in both Soccer and Swim her first year in high school so it might be a go. Looking forward and counting the days till Cruise time. Going to have four generations with us so it should be a fun trip. I'm new to posting but have been reading since we booked in Nov. of 2009 onboard the Magic.
