Disney Dream 12/29/2011

We're in! Me and my wife, DS 18 and DD 21. Hope there are other college-aged adults.

Looks like this cruise is pretty full. Has anyone taken a DCL NYE cruise before and can tell us what to expect? Will all the Christmas decorations be down by the time we board?

We ended up getting 2 Cat 9B rooms...but the are GTY. We really want adjoining rooms but I guess we'll have to wait and hope for the best.

This will be our 7th DCL cruise.

One rookie question....my passport expires this November, will I need that for the Bahamas?

Hey Mike!

I was on the Magic to ring in 2010. The Christmas decorations were up until Jan 2nd. That was the day we disembarked. My guess is that they will still be up. Not sure if the decorations will be up on Castaway Cay. Our Magic cruise was a double dip and the decorations were up on the 27th but when we returned on New Year's day they were down. I must say that was a letdown. After seeing everything all decorated it looked kind of depressing without them.

There was a NYE party on the top decks with free champagne in plastic flutes with the DCL logo and date. There was also a lithograph in the room and I think some chocolates (not sure if that was NYE or Christmas). NYE was formal night and they had gold top hats (the Wonder had silver) at dinner with possibly noise makers but not sure. There was food on deck and music. We were heading from the Western Caribbean to CC and passed the Miami area that evening so we saw all of the fireworks from that area. I do remember it being windy and a tad chilly. Ture to form for DCL, everything was pretty well wrapped up by 12:30.

Thanks Laurie, this is good info! It sounds like this cruise is gonna be great.

Can someone compare/contrast the Magic and the Dream?

Welcome, Mike! My daughter will turn 18 two weeks before the cruise, so she'll use this as a transition between The Vibe and the college-aged stuff. She's a senior in HS and so qualifies for the teen club still. But I expect she'll want to test the waters with the older kids as well. She certainly is already making plans for the Rainforest in the Spa and Palo, LOL!

I'd get the passport renewed; you never know when you might need it.

I got our plane tickets this weekend. got down to about $250 so I jumped on them. Better then the $1300 they wanted just a couple days before on Allegiant. I'm so relieved!!:sail:

Good job!

We are 12 hrs to the port so driving vs flying is a debate. There is one direct flight and that works great but if we have to stop over somewhere (Atlanta) and change planes then we have the decision becomes '6 or 7 hrs on planes and airports plus $900 pluse $280 for the MCO/Port shuttle or just drive it in 12 hrs and keep the $1180 (less gas) for walki' 'round money.

OTOH, the old saying 'time is money' is not true. Time is much more valuable than money! :-) If we can ge a direct flight to MCO then we're 3 hrs from our driveway to the Dream.

Welcome Mike and Family. Good luck on getting adjoining rooms! Just keep checking, you never know when things shift around. As to the passport, myself personally, I'd renew the passport. You will never know when you will need it ;)

btw, I added you to roll call also.

Our flights were almost double what we normally pay! I ended up using points and I will need to fly in 3 days earlier than the family in order to do that. What to do without the family for 3 days, what to do? :lmao: Like you, I'm just glad I have them booked.

Countdown is getting closer. Yeah!

It will be here before we know it...but not soon enough!

I have the roll call updated...let me know if I missed anyone. It's been a busy summer so far. Got off the Wonder in Vancouver on June 7, drove home via the Oregon coast...beautiful! Off to Orlando in July. Kids back in school August 10.

Tis the season, apparently. We normally pay about $79 one way; the cheapest I could get (Southwest) was $187 for one of us, and $215 for the other two. I'm hoping that prices may come down a bit in the meantime so I can adjust them before booking our return flight.

We're doing a B2B with the cruise following this one, so that will bring us out of the high season and, hopefully, back to under $100 per ticket again. Whew.

You should be good. I was able to book coming back with the family. We are flying out the day we dock.

I've never been able to do a B2B *jealous*. One of these days...

We're in on this cruise too; I booked it on our very short 2/3/11 cruise. It will be me, DenverVal, my DH, DD19 and DD16. We have a GTY cat 5, because that's all that was left. If you know anyone in a cat 9 who is thinking of cancelling, please let me know, because I am looking to downgrade!

Welcome aboard. I've added you to the roll call. Did you just get off the Wonder? How did your cruise go?

Hi Tiffany and welcome aboard! I've added you to roll call also. I went back through the posts and now remember you signing on. You can start sending pm's when you have reached 10 posts so a couple of replies up here should do it for you. Where are you getting married?

Linda

Linda,
I haven't been on the thread in a while. I need to let you know we will not be on this cruise anymore. :sad1: We switched to an Alaska cruise. After going on the Repo in April we decided, as a family, to switch. It was a difficult discussion to make, but Alaska won out. We will be leaving people we know on this cruise, which is sad, but we were able to join good friends for the Alaska one.

I know you and everyone will all have so much fun on the Dream. Someday we will meet. Tell your husband we said hi.

Yes, just off the ship this past Tuesday. It was a great cruise, made some new friends, enjoyed some amazing port adventures and incredible scenery. Alaska cruise: recommended!

Hi Linda,

I PM'd you with additional information for the roll call but I don't see my info. Please let me know if you didn't get it and I'll resend.

Thanks!

Ok here we go . . .

Tomorrow, (July 5) begins my OFFICIAL DISNEY NYE CRUISE DIET lol!

Time to get down to business so that I can eat 24 hours a day and have fun. Vacations are for letting go and now worrying . . so you will always have a munching buddy - cause we LOVE FOOD !!!

Oh yea . . . and we LOVE the free champagne at the NYE party too hahaha . . anyone ready to DANCE the night away?

I funny thing happened yesterday that I thought I would share. My DS (13) and I were sitting there watching the fireworks last night. They were ok for a small midwestern town. I was sitting there watching them and he leans over an says "can you imagine what the fireworks on the Dream are going to be? No one can beat Disneys."

Makes me not able to wait!!!!

We are also on this cruise pacurn 50something DH, DD19 DD25 and DSIL 28. Planning on driving down from MD since I can't find a decent air fare.
