What exactly are Disney Dollars? Just regular money you can spend in Disney World? Are there any perks to having Disney Dollars as opposed to regular bills?

I'm thinking of buying Disney Dollars so I don't wind up spending my cash I'm saving for soveniors and food. Say I have $5, do I get $5 Disney Dollars or does it cost something to convert?

That you an get in single's,five's,ten's denominations. You can buy it dollar for dollar with USA dollars. It is only good at WDW and if you lose it it is gone, unless someone would turn it in.If you have Disney Dollars left you can get back USA dollars for it if you excahnge it before you leave.:wave2:PS I think you can also use it at Disney Stores, not sure. You may be able to buy and exchange at Disney Stores, not sure.Maybe another poster can confirm this.:wave2:

Disney dollars are special novelty disney bills in denominations of 1s, 5s, 10s, and 20s featuring the characters. They can be purchased at any Disney store at an even exchange for US dollars. The best "perk" for us is that we are not great savers. If we have money, we spend it. Therefore, DDs are a great way for us to save for our upcoming trip. We give and receive DDs for gifts throughout the year and keep them in our Disney trip planning bag. They can only be used at Disney parks and you get change back in good old American money.

Hope this helps. c-ya real soon.

Disney Dollars aren't just good at WDW, they can be used at any Disney property, including Disney Stores. They are also good at the outlet stores Character Premier and Character Warehouse. (Last trip I bought $300 worth of merchandise for $80 Disney Dollars at Character Premier.) You can use them to pay for your room, too. DH & I have used them on several trips and this last trip in April we had $400 worth with us, had paid our room off before we arrived, and had annual passes, so we didn't have to worry about anything once we got there, everything was paid for! Used them for all of our food and some souveniers. We give them as gifts for birthday and holidays to family members who are going to WDW. Also gave them to the kids for their own spending money when they were younger. We buy them as sort of a savings account for the trips, then we can't spend the money on anything else!

However, since Disney is trying to sell off the Disney Stores, which is where I have always bought mine, I'm wondering if they will still be around for our next trip. Anyone know anything about that? I haven't heard recently how the sale is going or even if there is anyone interested.

Also, our Disney Store doesn't have $20 denominations, only 1,5 &10. Never seen a 20.

We use them as a savings account also. This way the money doesn't find its way back into the bills. When asked I usually tell grandparents, aunts, etc. Disney dollars are the best gift. I also am wondering how much longer we can do this with fewer and fewer Disney stores.

My mistake. $1, $5, $10s

I had asked this same question on the budget board :teeth:. Another poster gave me a good idea - I was going to purchase Disney dollars to give to my kids. If I put the purchase on a rewards credit card (I have the Disney Visa) I'll earn more reward dollars. So that's what I did yesterdays. Works for me :hyper: !

I plan on giving my DD (5ys) Disney Dollars. Money doesn't really mean much to her. But talking about the Disney Dollars she is so excited and has been helping out around the house to earn more.

I TOO USE DISNEY DOLLARS. IF I SAVE $$ I WILL TEND TO "DIP INTO IT" WITH THE INTENTION OF "PAYING IT BACK". WITH DISNEY DOLLARS, YOU CAN'T DO THAT SINCE THEY ARE ONLY GOOD ON DISNEY PROPERTY. A WORD OF CAUTION... SPENDING MONEY WITH PICTURES OF MICKEY IS SOMEHOW EASIER THEN SPENDING PICTURES OF GEORGE WASHINGTON... REMEMBER THIS IS REAL $$... SPENDING IT STILL LEAVES A HOLE IN YOUR WALLET

I was just putting some in with my dd's graduation card (from Pre K..he he!)...she'll be thrilled to have some of her own $$ to spend during our trip.

They are great gift ideas!! They're really like gift certificates in a way.

Guest relations had sent some to me once when we had a bad experience at a WDW restaurant. Very smart! They know I will only spend it right back there! Of course I could have used it at the Disney store but it probably still ends up at the same place:tongue:

I too find purchasing Disney Dollars a great way to save some extra money. If I put a little cash aside I am likely to dip into it if I am short on cash, but with Disney Dollars that's not likely to happen unless I plan on going to a Disney Store. I am planning on using my Disney Dollars on a shopping spree at DTD for my DGD in Dec.
