Disney Dollars

City Hall. I bought some earlier this year for my wife to use when we went for her birthday. It's fun spending the Mickey money!

I got mine at the ticket booth while I was buying my Disney Premier Passport. I traded $100 in real money for $100 in Disney Dollars, a few $10s, $5s, and lots of $1s. I think you can even buy these with a credit card, which is cool because it doesn't get charged as a cash advance, just a regular purchase. There seems to be a limit of $50 if you use a credit card (at least at WDW, I'm not sure about DLR). Also, when you use your Disney Dollars you get your change in real money.

It was actually more difficult to get them than we expected in December - they seem to be going to gift cards more and more. We got ours in the Star Trader in DL. Within the park, there are only a couple stores that sell them. I'm not sure about DCA and main gates. We went at Christmastime and the kids were getting them from some family members that were visiting us to buy their own Christmas present. They don't get the concept of the card, I needed something concrete for them to recognize how much they could/were spending. They worked really well.

Yes you can buy them with a credit card. I have purchased more than $50 at once with my credit card, but a supervisor had to handle the transaction and I had to sign something extra (don't remember the purpose) besides the credit slip. I last purchased more than $50 at once more than a year ago, so I can't say if something has changed.

Can someone explain the benefit of Disney Dollars? Is it just more for fun than practicality?

I had planned to use them as more of a budgeting tool. From my understanding they can be used at all retail and restaurant locations in DLR and DtD. I had just planned to buy disney dollars for the amount we would spend on food and random items...Can you buy them online?
