Hi, can Disney Dollars be used for Disney cruises? I mean actually as money for booking the cruise. Also can they be used on the ships? If anyone knows please let me know ASAP, I'm trying to get together my Christmas wishlist! ;)

I'm pretty sure you can use them on board, but to BOOK a cruise??? Do you really have that much in Disney Dollars? If you do, WHOA!

I don't believe you can use them to book a cruise. You can take them on board with you and use them to pay your bill on board. They will apply the disney dollars to your bill and then just charge your credit card for the remainder.

We ask family members to give disney dollars to our kids as gifts throughout the year. Then the kids have money to spend in the gift shop; with cash, they are tempted to spend it on other things during the year. They can't spend the disney dollars until on board so they have money of their own to buy what THEY want without us telling them it's too expensive!

I had my TA call yesterday to check about using Disney Dollars to pay for our account. Disney said they still accept them. It's a great idea. We are giving our kids Disney Dollars for christmas and birthdays and then they can decide how to use them.

MickyTink - Your KTTW card is used for charging things. If you give your kids the privlege they can charge sodas or arcade games. They can also buy their own souveniers. We allow our kids to charge things with our permission. They keep an account at guest services. At the end of the cruise you either let them charge it to your credit card or you pay it off with cash, travelers checks or Disney Dollars.

If your kids have charge privledges, are they separate from yours (of course secured by your credit card), so it is possible to track each child's purchases. And, can you track your KTTW charges on your TV like Royal Carribean does? I have three kids and would like to have family give them Disney dollars to spend on the ship.

Thanks

yes, every person assigned to that charge card has their charges broken down by person. You can stop at guest services anytime and ask for a print out. It will tell where any purchaes were made and who purchased them and how much was charged. It is very easy to see who is spending what onboard.

You can also opt to decline charging privliges for your children. Then their KTTW card would be just a room key.

To BOOK a cruise with Disney Dollars, you'd have to chance the postal service to mail the dollars(same as cash, really) to the office in Florida. No travel agent from your hometown would take them, even it was for a Disney Cruise. While they could be used to pay your KTTW account, I'd feel a lot safer carrying traveler's checks on board than a wad full of DD(cash if lost or stolen.) They are a cute keepsake, but probably not the smartest financial instument for travel. If you have an emergency on the way to the port, not many hospitals, towing companies or mechanics take Mickey Money.
