Can someone help me with this question? I will be taking a grandniece, 2 grandnephews and 1 nephew to WDW next summer (ages 2 - 10) and I want to give them spending money for Disney at Christmas and their birthdays so how do you purchase Disney Dollars or can you get a Disney Gift Card (one that has penalties if you don't use it immediately)?

Thanks!

I just learned that Disney Dollars can either be ordered online or bought at the Parks. You can purchase a gift card at the Disney store that they can use for just about anything. HTH.:)

We got Disney gift cards at Meijer and Walmart in the card kiosk. I figured I pick some up until our trip! Very handy, since there arent many Disney Stores in Michigan.

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but I've got a related question. Looks as if DW and I won't be getting back to WDW until our 40th anniversary three years from now. If I purchase Disney gift cards now and then to put away for our trip, do they have an expiration date?

I had Disney Gift Cards that I used during this past trip. They did not have an expiration. Also, the cards can be reloaded and recycled (if you would like to be green.) :thumbsup2

Can anyone provide a link to the source who told Disney to discontinue Disney Dollars. I tried but could not find anything except for message boards.

They haven't been discontinued, but the Disney Stores retail locations no longer sell them. You can order over the phone and have them mailed to you. (PLUS $15.00 S/H charge!!!.)
There is a $50.00 per credit card limit...and a three card limit...SOOO
Using three credit cards, buying $50 on each card with shipping: $165.00

Credit Card #1 $65.00
Credit Cards #2 & #3 $ 50.00 each.

At the parks or DTD there are no extra costs.

THAT info is from the operator at WDW Sales...(not the travel folks)...407-566-4985

Also,
Here is a link from the WDW Mom's Panel.

My grand daughter was born in December 2005. I got a disney gift card for her first birthday with 50 bucks on it. Every birthday and christmas I put 50.00 on that one card. We used it last Sept. she had 250 spending money.

Still had some $$ left on the card but we are going again in 2013 so I will just add $$ each birthda/ christmas for her.

You can purchase Disney gift cards at a lot of drug stores like Walgreens or Rite Aid and also at Walmart like PP mentioned. We have them at our local grocery store (Wegmans) as well. They are usually on a rack with a bunch of other store/restaurant/Visa/American Express gift cards for sale.

Many states have made it illegal for a gift card sold in that state to have an expiriation date. I can't tell you which states, but I know that its illegal to sell gift cards in Ohio with an expiration date. All cards sold in Ohio must be good forever.

Some states allow gift cards to expire 3 years after the card is sold if no activity on the card, so I would at least use it to buy 5.00 worth of something or add value to the card so they can see activity on the card if you are going to hold it for a long time.

Publix, Wal Mart and Wal Greens have disney gift cards $10-$100 and they dont expire and can be reloaded. You can also get disney dollars at your hotel in Disney.

Hi,

I was able to order the Disney Dollars by phone on last week. There is the$15 delivery charge because they are considered currency (not really, but they are worth something at Disney). Matter of fact, when they send them via FedEx you have to sign for them, which is what I have to do today. I had it sent to a pickup sight. The good thing was that FedEx called me yesterday to let me know that I had to be there or set up to pick up.

I ordered $20 in $1's. The $15 makes it a bit pricey, but I went ahead and did it. I like the idea of the gift cards, which I do purchase, but it was just something about the dollars...

I got the phone number from the Mom's Panel sight. Love it! :thumbsup2

I hope this helps.

I bought ours at Kroger. We got 4x the the amount in fuel points. Enough so I got $1 each gallon of gas.

Not sure where you are from, but many stores are now offering gas points for gift card purchases. I am in Ohio and shop at Giant Eagle. When I purchase groceries, or in this case, gift cards, they also earn money off gas!!! That will help on the drive to the parks!!!

Might be worth looking into!!!! :thumbsup2
