I think they can only be used at World of Disney and the LEGO store.

I went to the local Disney Store and found out they don't sell Disney Dollars anymore!! I was told you had to get them online, but we only found them at ebay!!

Yeah, it was mentioned on the boards here many months ago that they are trying to phase them out, so they are no longer selling them. If you want to prepay for things like that, I'd just get a Disney gift card.

Last year I found two $1.00 Disney Dollar bills in a drawer from 1989!!!

ETA: Just found this interesting link http://www.disneydollars.net/. One of the links on the site says that as of 10/4/2009, Disney Dollars were no longer sold in Disney stores or online, but are still available in WDW and DL parks. It's not an official Disney site though, so take it with a grain of salt!

You can get them at the parks. I would go to the main stores in the parks...the smaller ones don't seem to have them. And even those stores tend to have to search for them (under the register's cash drawer was where the CM found mine).

But I don't see much point in them. Then again, ever since wamu was "bought" by Chase, "my" bank has ATMs all in the parks, and I don't have to worry about bringing cash, as I can just go GET cash. And suddenly needing cash was the reason I bought the DDs in the first place, back before the moving carts in DCA started taking cards. My family was off elsewhere, I saw it as a good chance to have a Mickey Bar (forbidden to DS and DH b/c the ice cream has corn syrup, which they cannot have), but had no dollars...scramble scramble, and then...the cart closed by the time the CM found the dollars.

But now Chase is there so I don't have to scramble, and most of the carts take cards, so...no point. For me, at least.


For the DTD restaurants, you could always go and ask (or call to make reservations and ask?) *before* going to buy the DDollars. On the one hand, they can be turned back in at Disney giftshops for real money, but on the other hand, why would the management at those restaurants want to do that?

I was planning on giving them to my kids in Easter eggs for an Easter egg hunt!! I was also going to let my son "earn" them before our trip!!

I found some great designs on here and I plan to print them and use them as I mentioned, then I'll just trade my kids real cash for them!! I'm not sure if I want to get them a Disney gift card with the money I would owe them, as I don't want to lock them into having to use it only at WDW or their stores if they want to spend it elsewhere!!!

It is my understanding that the Disney Gift Cards, can be used just about anywhere in WDW and in Disneyland as well. I am working on collecting them, that way I cannot spend the cash just anywhere, as I save it for Disney.

This is what I did, I did a google image search for disney dollars, printed them, and used them for my kids to earn before we left for vacation. When we arrived we bought real DD and traded them out. Since we have AP now, I'm going to continue it.

I'm very disappointed to see Disney Dollars going away. They have been fantastic for special rewards for the kids and the perfect thing to slip into Easter Baskets and Christmas Stockings. Our kids have earned Disney Dollars over the last year for "exceptional behavior" which has been behavior that goes beyond what is generally expected. We've seen so many extra acts of kindness, calm compromises, and amazing choices from our 4 year-olds that resulted from this system. It's been a program that has worked very well for our family, and I'm disappointed to see it end.

Unfortunately, the gift cards have high minimum dollar amounts, which makes them useless for this sort of gift-giving. It was a nice way to let our young kids earn their own spending money and begin to learn the concepts of cost, earning, and spending choices while focusing the pre-trip excitement.

I do hope that Disney will lower the minimum dollar amount on the gift cards. The Easter Bunny in our neighborhood can't afford $25 eggs!

You could print your own for the kids to earn and then have them "cash" them in at the Disney Bank couldn't they or is that gone too? I like that this gives the children a learning opportunity. I know we could just give them cash but this way they have to save for their trip! It makes me sad that they are getting rid of them too!

Disney Dollars are still for sale at the parks, so you can stock up next time you go.

Also, if you buy the GCs at the parks, you can get them in whatever amount you need; the minimum is only when buying them online.

DS did so wonderfully with a giftcard on his 5th birthday, when Disney was running their birthday campaign...he seemed to really understand that he had a certain amount, and looked to us for guidance on how best to spend it...at the end we chipped in a couple bucks, mainly for tax, and he ended up with a few long-wanted, well thought out, toys that he bought over the course of our trip. So giftcards aren't awful, necessarily, for learning what money does.
