My BIL's family is going to go to Disney with us (11/22 - 11/28). Their kids will be ages are 3 and 6. This will be their family's first trip, but it is my family's third.

My niece will turn 6 in July. I was thinking about rather than getting her some kind of toy-type gift, I might give her some Disney Dollars that she can spend on the trip. However, I don't know if she will feel jipped? Maybe I could get a little tinkerbell coin purse and put the Disney Dollars in it?

What do you think? Do you think a 6 year old would feel jipped by just getting Disney Dollars for her birthday instead of a "real" present?

My 2 Nieces are going with us this year, 12 and 6. I got the 12 year old disney dollars for her birthday, but not the 6 year old and boy was she mad at me. She wanted the dollars to spend at Disney. Learned my lesson. lol

I think the idea of a cute purse with Disney dollars inside is a terrific idea. I've been doing that sort of thing for my dd since she was 5. She's a bit of a shopper (like her mom), and enjoys buying her own souvenirs.

And bonus, it frees up some money that her parents need to spend at WDW.

I think it's a great idea. If they doesn't get it at first, you could explain it to them. Most kids have plenty of toys already so this would help the parents out during the trip. :thumbsup2

My dd just graduated form college. She wants a trip to wdw for her gift from us so we are going in Sept. Our dil is giving her disney dollars as a grad gift and she is thrilled. I think any girl who is a shopper would love disney dollars.

What a nice aunt you are! I think the purse idea is wonderful - I think she will love it! My dd is turning 8 on our trip and if anyone asks about sending a gift along with us I will be suggesting Disney Dollars. That way we don't have to lug a gift both ways (still have to bring it home) and she will have her own spending money while there. Win-win!

We always do this for kids who are going to Disney close to their birthdays. We put it in a cute purse or wallet for a boy (usually Disney themed). We usually get a little velvet coloring set or something (Target Dollar spot) so they have something little to use right now. We always get a positive reaction.
