My trip last week was really the first trip I've made to WDW with a H/A permit for parking. We stayed at Animal Kingdom -Kidani and there was only ONE H/A parking space near the Pumbaa elevator in the parking area. I didn't park in the spot for the first part of our week there because there was always the same car there every day. Mid-week, that car was gone and I was able to park and use my permit. After a day or so, a blue minivan was parking there on an evening when we got back late after a late night at MK. I didn't see any permit on the car or the license plate so I called the front desk to report someone potentially parking in the only H/A spot without any indication that they should be in that spot.

Someone called back and left a message that they wouldn't check it out because Disney does NOT enforce the parking rules. They wouldn't even call the guest (his name was on his parking permit in his window) to request them to move if they didn't have a need for H/A parking. All they would do was transfer me to the Orange county sherriff to have them come to issue the guy a ticket.

The next morning, there was no ticket on the van so that didn't happen, either. I left a politely worded note requesting that they not park in the H/A space if they truly didn't have a permit to be there. That night, they parked in regular parking and I was able to use the H/A space.

I guess my point is that while Disney generally is very friendly territory for those who need help, that isn't always so. Why bother having H/A spaces at all if the parking rules aren't enforced?

I hear you and I know this gets abused, but without it it would even be worse.

I will tell there are a lot of handicap car travellers that come in their cars and park their car for the whole duration of their stay in the handicap space and never move the car. They will use Disney transportation for their stay.

I am sorry you had that experience, but I would not expect WDW to "enforce" handicapped parking. The police need to be the ones who write the ticket. Orange county may not have had the chance to get out to WDW to write the ticket, and if they did they may have mailed it to the registered owner of the van.

Here the number for the orange county sheriff office subdivision for walt disney you can call that number and report the person who parked in the spot just make sure you have the license plate and a description on the car. They will treat it like an non emergency so when an officer can get their the person might be gone before they get their.

Sector VI Substation - Walt Disney World Area
1920 East Lake Buena Vista Drive
Orlando, Florida 32830

here the non emergency number for the ocso 1-407-836-4357 you can call that number to.

The enforcement is Orange County Sheriff's Office. (Except for All-Stars Resorts and WWS, where it is Osceola County Sheriff's Office.) They will normally be the ones who patrol the lots. I keep both of their non-emergency numbers on my cell phone and will report handicap parking violations. And I know at Typhoon Lagoon the Deputy who is assigned will walk through the disabled parking area of the lot and issue tickets as needed.

What's wrong with that? If that person has a legit handicapped placard or license plate, they are entitled to use that space like anyone else.

Sorry their no law or sign saying you can't park there for thr duration of your stay. All it say you have to have a H/A sticker plac card or noted on your license depends on what your state issues. That what the spots are their for at hotels for you to park in it during your whole stay. People that abuse it are the ones who just park their to be closer to the entrance and not thinking of someone who might really need it.

Guilty as Charged! I have a handicap license plate. Where should I park? I need the extra space to use my walker when I go to/from my driver's door. I could never get in and out of my car if it was in a regular, narrow space. There's also my scooter I load in my van, I need access space for that. :)

Disney would not have the legal authority to enforce H/A parking. You would need to contact the Orange County Sheriff's Office. Parking issues are a non-emergency issue. An officer would be sent out at their convenience when they have the man power to send them. It would not be something they would send an officer right away for.

So, I don't really understand the issue OP. Yes, it stinks the person was parked there without a tag... but that is not Disney's fault.

Also, H/A parking is not timed parking. As long as one has the tag, then they can park there for as long as is needed.

We did report someone to the front desk at OKW on one trip who was parked in a handicapped spot without a handicapped parking permit. First, we saw Disney security people come out and then the police. The person did get ticketed.

So, as was already mentioned, WDW does not enforce handicapped parking, but the police do have the power to ticket and will.

I’m sorry that the OP did not get someone when the front desk was called who would take care of the situation by calling the police.

Ah, but the front desk DID transfer me to the sherrif and there was still no ticket on the van the next morning. I did report the van was parked in H/A without any visible permit. I suppose a ticket could have beem mailed, but I didn't know they'd do that for a parking ticket.

As for parking in the H/A spot for the whole trip, I have no problem with that. As long as the car in the spot has a permit, they can stay there as long as they want to. Then it is first come, first served for H/A space.
My only complaint was someone without a permit parking there. And that there is only one space in the first place, I guess. You'd think Disney could afford to mark a couple more spaces for H/A.

Thanks! I'll keep that info for our next trip. The front desk put me through to the sherriff but didn't tell me what the number was. I did have the car info including the name of the driver thanks to the Disney parking permit on the windshield.

My issue was that if it were me, I'd have preferred a phone call from Disney's front desk to suggest the guest may have parked in the wrong spot by mistake. That is kinder than calling the sheriff to have a ticket issued to a guest. But Disney wouldn't even call the guest.

I was connected to the sheriff and told that an officer would be sent. The minivan was there all night so I would imagine someone would have had time before morning to get there. No ticket was on the mini van in the morning. If they mailed it, I wouldn't know. But as far as I know I'd have expected to see it on the window under a wiper blade.

If the vehicle didn't belong there, and Disney called them, they would be extremely unhappy and maybe thinking about payback. When the accused guests got up and moved their vehicle, and your car went in their former spot, what do you think might be the chances your car could be vandalized or you could be harassed by these people in retaliation for complaining. They might also harass the Disney people and vandalize Disney property. It could become very tense, and very possibly ruin your vacation. People who break obvious rules don't like to be confronted, especially late at night. As a handicapped person myself, and physically weak, I would never enter into a situation where someone might want to attack me or my auto. This is why Disney doesn't get into parking disputes. Let the professionals - the Police - handle the situation, please.

BTW, you could mention to the Kidani front desk people that you only see one H/A parking spot near that elevator, and ask where there are other H/A parking spots. Surely there must be more than one spot. :)

One reason Disney does not have many disabled spaces at the entrances to the Deluxe Resorts is they offer free Valet Parking for people with a disabled plate or hang tag. True, one is expected to tip the valets $1 or $2, but technically that is not a requirement.

I guess that could be true. Didn't cross my mind since I would never consider damaging someone's property.

As for the parking, my guess is that you've never stayed at Kidani. There are really long hallways and you park your car in the garage underneath. if you park at a handicap spot down a few buildings from the elevator that is actually closest to your villa, you would be looking at a LONGER walk than just parking in a regular spot nearer the elevator closest to your villa.

Same for valet parking. It is worthless at Kidani unless you are staying in one of the buildings that are on either side of the lobby building. Otherwise you'll have a LONGER walk than just parking in a regular spot closer to your room.

What is needed is more handicap spots nearer the elevators for the buildings that are farther away from the lobby. Pumbaa is the farthest away elevator from the lobby on the north end. I did make that suggestion in the survey Disney sent to me about my stay.

my be they got a ticket and the owners came back and took it off so my be that could be why their was no ticket when you saw it the next morning.

Could be, but they'd have had to be up really early to do that. We were leaving for early morning entry at the MK that morning so we were out inthe parking structure before most people.

Up early for mk what you was trying to get on buzz light year with out a wait :thumbsup2. my be the officer did a drive by and since it is in a garage they didnt see the sign so my be he thought he moved not trying to make any excuses for them. It could also be that they got tied up in something and couldnt make it out and figured they would move.
