Wow, I just don't know how I'll spend it all. All 21 cents. LOL! I have a single share of stock that I got so I could frame it and hang it on the wall. In yesterday's mail came my yearly dividend check. It will probably end up in my fund for the next trip.

My son got one share for his birthday in October 2002 - he got his 21cent dividend check yesterday too - had to giggle - he's just turned 9

I showed him how to read the local paper to find out how his stock is doing and set him up a very simple excel to track his stock on a weekly basis.

I think he thinks he owns all WDW - lol

OK, so I don't feel so bad with our $2.10 !
Hey, did you know that you can choose to reinvest your dividends through http://www.disneyshareholder.com ?

My, I recall when I bought ten shares in 1998 after they split three times in one year. I paid $38 per share and still have not seen my stocks go over that amount for one steady week since then!

How would you go about buying just one share? My daughter would get a kick out of it...Would I have to pay taxes on that 21 cents though?;) Thanks for the input.

No taxes on $0.21, Dee.
No taxes on my $2.10 either.

You can buy a share through a broker or through the Disney website, I am not sure. Maybe even Ameritrade, Quick & Reilly... I think if you buy directly through Disney you need to get 10 or something like that.

...Well, they are talking about making dividends non-taxable, but it has not been passed into law... right now dividends are taxed at the same rate as ordinary income--so, if you meet tax filing criteria, you do pay taxes on it.

If you are only interested in one share, probably the easiest way to buy it is through One Share http://www.oneshare.com/exec12/index.asp? (they may be site sponsors --if so, you may be able to find a discount). Still, when you are done with the purchase price of the stock and the oneshare fees even with no special frame, it is kind of expensive.

The least expensive way to purchase is through direct purchase from Disney--but, I believe it is a $1,000 initial investment (plus $10.00 to set up the account). But, the per share price is usually the least expensive going directly through Disney because they charge minimal fees for the transaction.

You can buy just one share of Disney stock at www.oneshare.com, and you can almost always find some sort of discount from the Mousesavers site (click on the link to oneshare from MouseSavers...sorry, I don't know how to post links....but the reply above has the link.)

I hope this helps! I received my 21 cents a few days ago as well! Of course I cashed it....

My husband bought me one share of disney for Christmans and I also got my divident check yesterday. I had bought him a share of his favorite stock, Harley Davidson, two years ago for Christmas and he has yet to get any dividends from it. Had to grind it in a bit when I got my check.

Yes, I did buy my one share thru oneshare :) Did this in October of 2001 and they were having a special at the time. I also think that I bought it thru one of the reward programs I do and got points or something. Anyway, it's framed and hanging on the wall right in front of me!

I just put my 21cent check in the bank. Maybe all us 21 cents people can pool our money and buy a ticket to WDW.....in about 10 years or so!!!LOL

I bought my one share of Disney stock the day the stock market reopened after September 11th. I also got my 21 cent dividend check a few days ago. :)

You have to earn quite a bit more in dividends before they are taxable. I am earning over two bucks in Disney dividends, have for a few years and never had to pay a tax. They'll never charge you taxes on dividends below a dollar!

Your statement from the company for taxes will tell you how much has been taken out, if any. I wouldn't worry about a quarter's income!

Well, my21¢ was reduced by 15% to 18¢. I'm assuming that's because I'm in Canada. I don't know if I'll spend all 18¢ in one place or not!:p

ALL income is taxable....some types of income are exempt. Dividends are taxable. True the IRS will probably not come after you for .21.......but that does NOT mean that it isn't taxable or non-reportable.

You are probably thinking of when the company withholds part of the dividend and automatically sends it to the IRS--which companies don't do routinely. I am not sure what triggers the dividend withholding thing--I think it might have to do with folks not paying in enough on their quarterly estimates in cases where they have a lot of dividends and don't have enough money withheld at the end of the year. Apparently, it automatically kicks in for folks who aren't required to file US taxes (Canadian residents). Under normal circumstances, $0.21 (or $2.10) wouldn't fall into that category where part of the dividend is withheld. Technically though, it is reportable income, if you meet filing criteria.
I think a lot of folks have bought 1 share for a child. If the stock is in a child's name--then, the child has to meet the filing criteria (I think the filing threshold for a dependent child was $700.00 a couple of years ago --I'm not sure what it is this year.)

Add me to the .21 group. I got a framed Disney stock from DH for Christmas...I barely had it on the wall on my dividend check came. It was fun to receive!
