Disney Divas Getaway!!

Monday September 8
Flew Southwest non-stop from San Antonio to Orlando.

We retrieved our luggage from baggage claim ourselves rather than have Magical Express take care of it. This required a few extra steps (had to walk from one terminal to another) but worth the peace of mind that we had our luggage. Once we had checked in with Magical Express we waited @20-30 minutes for our bus. The ride was short and Pop Century Resort was the first stop. After checking in at Pop @3pm and unpacking and meeting Slightly Goofy, we headed over to The Magic Kingdom. We had a 6:30pm ADR for dinner @Tony’s Towne Square Restaurant. Dinner was pleasant. I had spaghetti and meatballs and a lemon cake for dessert. My entrée portion size was just right but I thought the slice of cake was too big but that may be because I had to rush through it so we wouldn’t miss Spectro Magic @8pm. Service @Tony’s was good-great. Our server led the restaurant in singing Happy Birthday to Becky! Watched Spectro-Magic Parade from Tony’s porch. After Spectro we made our way to Adventure Land because Becky and Mary had to get Dole Whips (extra good with Pirate water AKA coconut rum!) We watched Wishes Fireworks from in front of the Crystal Palace (Tinkerbelle was able to fly despite a stiff breeze!) After Wishes we hung around Main Street until almost 10:30pm to avoid waiting in a long line for a bus back to Pop.

Tuesday September 9 EPCOT
(Shirt: Tie Dye turquoise, purple & hot pink)
We were at EPCOT for Extra Magic Hour Rope Drop (8am.) Walked right on Soarin…no wait, no Fast Pass. After Soarin we used a counter service credit for breakfast at the Sunshine Seasons Food court in the Land. Becky got a free chocolate chip cookie because it was her birthday! We rode Living with the Land. Spaceship Earth, Test Track, Mission Space. By 1pm we had done everything we wanted to do in Future World but didn’t want to start World Showcase yet. We had a 2pm lunch ADR @Le Cellier and wanted to take advantage of the free photo with characters offer for Disney Visa card holders (of which Becky is one.) The Disney Visa character photo op was from 1:30-4:30pm in Innovations. They definitely don’t want you to find it…there are no signs in the park directing you there and after asking two cast members we found it! We were the second group in line. We were taken behind a black curtain where Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and Photo Pass photographers were and had our picture taken. After our picture we were going to head to Canada for our lunch ADR but Missy realized she didn’t have her sunglasses and went back in Innovations to look for them. While the rest of us waited for her outside a Dream Team member walked by. We asked her if she would take our picture (we really didn’t want our picture in front of Innovations but wanted to engage her in conversation and we ever glad we did!) After taking our picture she asked if we had ridden Soarin, Test Track, Mission Space…we couldn’t lie and said yes. She said if we wanted to ride anything again and we said Soarin and she wrote us a Fast Pass for Soarin. Then she gave Becky a birthday pin and asked if she could do anything else for us. I asked if she had any pull at Le Cellier because I was only able to secure an ADR for 4 and there are 5 of us. She said she and her husband haven’t even been able to get into Le Cellier but she said she would walk over with us and see what she could do! When we got to Le Cellier they were telling people that even with an ADR there was a 30+ minute wait. But because Tami (Dream Team) was with us we were seated within 5 minutes! Before Tami left she asked if we had been to the Living Seas yet. We told we had and she said if we didn’t mind going back to meet her there after our meal and she would see if she could make some magic happen for us! During our meal (which was wonderful! I had the mushroom filet and cheese soup) our server brought Becky the phone and it was Goofy wishing her a Happy Birthday! She also got a card signed by all the servers at Le Cellier and a complimentary birthday dessert!
After lunch we doubled back to The Living Seas. We met up with Tami and fellow Dream Team member Celia. They told us we were going to get to go up to the top of the tank and see the dolphins! We were lead back stage, upstairs, literally to the top of the tank. A Living Seas cast member was there to talk to us about the dolphins. While we were there other cast members were in the water scuba diving. Becky said something about being a certified scuba diver and they asked her if she wanted to dive! She got to dive for @45 minutes and we all got a cd with her diving on it! We asked the Dream Team if this was part of the original plan and they said no…they just start the magic train and watch where it goes! This experience usually costs guests @$150 plus @$45 for the cd and Becky got it all for free! Tami had to leave us @5pm because her shift was over but told us that Celia would take care of us the rest of the day. Celia asked if we had dinner plans and we said we didn’t because we had had a big late lunch so she suggested dessert. We met up with Celia and Robert (another Dream Team member) @7pm in France where they bought us each a dessert and non-alcoholic drink (Dream Team can’t give away alcohol.) Met Timmy in France while we were getting slushies! Celia and Robert hung around with us until @8:30pm. We watched Illuminations @9pm before we made our way out of the park to a bus a back to Pop.

Wednesday September 10 Animal Kingdom
(Shirt: animal print)
We had a 8:05am breakfast ADR @Tusker House for Donald’s Safari Breakfast. The park didn’t open until 9am today so we felt we had the park to ourselves as we made our way back to the Tusker House. We had our picture taken in front of the Tree of Life with no one else in it! Breakfast here is a buffet with Donald, Daisy, Goofy and Mickey. The food, atmosphere and service were good although it was less relaxing because we had to get up to get our food and were up and down as each character came to the table for pictures.
After breakfast we headed to Kilimanjaro Safari where we had a very short wait for our ride. We did Festival of the Lion King, Expedition Everest, Dinosaur, Finding Nemo. It started to rain @2pm and since we had a dinner ADR for Artist’s Point (Wilderness Lodge) that night we headed out of the park @3pm.
Knowing getting from Pop Century to Wilderness Lodge via Disney transportation would be challenging we wanted to allow ourselves plenty of time. We originally planned to take the bus from Pop to The Magic Kingdom and then take the boat from The Magic Kingdom to Wilderness Lodge. But the afternoon shower had turned into a thunderstorm complete with wind, thunder and lightning. Knowing the the boats would not run if there was lightning we decided to take the bus to EPCOT and then take the bus from EPCOT to The Wilderness Lodge. This worked fine but we were all wet and windblown by the time we got to The Wilderness Lodge. Artist’s Point is a Signature Dining Experience and required two Table Service credits but it was well worth it. The chef came to our table during our meal and sent sorbet to our table before our dessert. We all ordered beef tenderloin as our entrees and I had peach upside down cake for dessert. After dinner no one had the energy to figure out how to get back to Pop via Disney transportation we decided to spurge and take a cab back to our hotel. (@$20 for the five of us.)

Thursday September 11 Magic Kingdom
(Shirt: pale blue rhinestone glass slipper)
T2107F0012M.jpg

This morning was an Extra Magic Hour at The Magic Kingdom so when got to the bus stop the line was extremely long. Spoiled by the cab service the night before I walked over to one parked in front of the hotel and asked how much to take the 5 of us to The Magic Kingdom. He said less than $20 and we decide to take the cab. We ended up having him drop us off at The Contemporary Resort and walking to the Magic Kingdom from there. We arrived just before rope drop. I have been to the Magic Kingdom before the park opens for early breakfast ADRs @The Crystal Palace and Cinderella’s Royal Table but had never seen the ceremony outside the park. Several characters come out of the train station singing, dancing, there are fireworks and confetti. Once in the park we went to the Main Street Bakery for counter service breakfast of coffee, cinnamon rolls, Danish, juice, yogurt, and fruit. After eating we continued up Main Street through Cinderella’s Castle, rode the Golden Carousal, Dumbo, Snow White, Pooh’s Honey Pots, Peter Pan and It’s a Small World all within an hour! We continued on to Liberty Square and rode the Haunted Mansion. In Frontier Land we rode Big Thunder Mountain but skipped Splash Mountain because we didn’t feel like getting soaked yet. In Adventure land we walked on Pirates of the Caribbean. The Jungle Cruise was the first attraction we came across that had a 30+ minute wait so we skipped it for the time being and did Enchanted Tiki Room. Hall of Presidents, Buzz Light-year, Carousal of Progress, Space Mountain, Tomorrow Land Transit Authority, Indy Speedway. Were able to watch the 3pm parade without staking out a piece of curb an hour before hand! After the parade we took the train back to Frontier Land and Becky, Missy and I got in line for Splash Mountain. We waited @30minutes in line. While we waited the sky looked threatening and they kept making announcements that they might have to shut the ride down due to lightning. We got on the ride and about half way through it stopped. Luckily we stopped while we were inside. We sat there for @20 minutes before the ride started back up. As we exited they gave us each a Fast Pass good for any ride at The Magic Kingdom until 9/15. It was still raining as we made our way out of the park to the monorail to go to Ohana at The Polynesian for dinner. At Ohana’s they bring you your side dishes to your table family style (bread, salad, noodles, wings, veggies, pot stickers) and then skewers of meat (turkey, pork, shrimp and sirloin) to your table. It’s all you can eat…we got more of the salad because of the honey lime dressing was delicious! Dessert was banana bread pudding with bananas foster sauce and vanilla ice cream is also served family style. Sheryll and I shared the famous Lapu Lapu.
P1000535.jpg

After our meal we head back to the Magic Kingdom where Becky got another Dole Whip and we rode Pirates of the Caribbean again! We watched Wishes but unfortunately didn’t linger on Main Street long enough and had a long wait for a bus back to our hotel.

Friday September 12 Disney Studios
(Shirts: rhinestone Disney Diva)
rhinestonedisneydiva.jpg

We arrived just before rope drop (9am.) Becky ran (walked purposefully) to get us all Fast Passes for Toy Story Mania. We walked on Rockin Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror. Stopped for counter service breakfast at Starring Rolls before heading to Toy Story Mania. We all loved it so much we Fast Passed it again when we got off! Walt Disney A Man and His Dream, Animation, Great Movie Ride, Voyage of the Little Mermaid. Did not enjoy the Block Party Bash. We had the Fantasmic Dinner Package @Mama Melrose. Met bonzerella in the lobby before we were seated! Our server was great! She even brought us little glasses of champagne so we could toast Becky’s birthday! This meal only counted as one table service credit but since it was the Fantasmic Dining Package we also got an appetizer. I had a salad, pasta and a lemon custard dessert.
After dinner we did the Backlot Tour. Becky was approached to participate in the pre show because it was her birthday and since they needed two other people Missy and I got to be in it too! We were all given waterproof boots, pants and jackets to put over our clothes. Missy and I were on the ship pretending to be cleaning the deck and Becky was the mechanic.
P1000584.jpg
After the tour we rode Star Tours before heading over to Fantasmic. I was surprised to see that the theater was almost at capacity because the park never seemed crowded all day. We did not have to wait long for a bus tonight to take us back to Pop.

Saturday September 13 EPCOT
(Shirts: Tie-Dye again, yes we washed them!)
We were supposed to be heading home today but thanks to Hurricane Ike we were able to extend our stay one more day. We decided to go back to EPCOT since we didn’t get to spend a lot of time in the countries because of Becky’s scuba diving dream on Tuesday. We were at rope drop, Becky ran (walked purposefully) to get us Fast Passes for Soarin and after the other Divas go their coffee we headed to Space Ship Earth. Along the way we saw a Dream Team member, Sarah, and started talking to her. She asked if we were going to be at the park all day, until Illuminations. We said yes and she said that maybe she could make some magic for us. She told us to wait where we were while she went back to the office and checked. When she returned said we were going to have VIP seating for Illuminations that night!
P1000602.jpg

After we rode Spaceship earth we rode Soarin and had counter service breakfast at Sunshine Seasons Food court again (Becky got another free chocolate chip cookie!) Rode Ellen’s Energy Adventure, Test Track before heading to The World Showcase. We were in England by 5:30pm and British Invasion (Beatles) were performing @6pm so we got some fish and chips and a pint from the pub and found a patch of sidewalk to sit and enjoy the performance. The six o’clock show was their early music (Help, Hard Day’s Night) the seven o’clock show was their Sergeant Pepper years and the eight o’clock show was Abby Road. I know this because I stayed for all three shows….the others Divas wandered back and forth but I was in heaven and stayed put! After the last show we headed to Italy to find our VIP seating for Illuminations. It wasn’t a big deal just a roped off area, didn’t even have seats or benches but it was still nice. We took our time making our way out of the park after Illuminations and to the bus back to Pop. Once back at Pop we went to the food court to use up left over dining plan credits because they were going to expire at midnight. We used four counter service credits to get two whole pizzas and had enough snack credits left over to get each of our kids Mickey head rice Krispie treats!

*We had no trouble or complaints regarding our stay @Pop or the service or food we recieved with the dinning plan. Not entirely sold on the DDP...don't think I'd ever pay for it but since it was free...booked Bounce Back to check in October 1, 2009 with my family (school schmool)...anybody know when EPCOT's Food & Wine Fest will be next year?!?!?

glad you gals got home safe... I got in myself this morning at around 1Am !!!!
Sorry to hear that...we luckily had no issues flying home but we were proactive changing our flights ahead of time b/c of Hurricane Ike :umbrella:

I will try and get back to read this later.. but am tired. You asked about food and wine for next year. I believe you will be okay. They are starting earlier this year by a weekend.

This sash has power! We attribute all our luck, magic, dreams, ect on this trip to this sash!
All hail the sash :worship:

Where did sash come from? Need to get one for a friend

Hi ya Diva Kris, love the trip report. While I am sure the sash did not hurt I think the shirts and your overwhelming and wonderful personalities were the main reason you got so many dreams.:wizard:

Being in the back of the building, so far from things made my stay at POP less than wonderful. If it were not for having so many friends, new and old, round me it would have been unbearable. I am so spoiled at Sports. I might have enjoyed the food more if I had been able to have more of it but I had Lucy to consider. Not sure if she had a good time or not. She has a very different personality from mine. I am an easy read, what you see is what you get.:thumbsup2

I had a pretty good time until the checkout day and then it all fell to pieces. Much more good than bad though.

I am relieved to read that you had a good view of Spectro and all. What I plan to do while sitting in a/c and am well rested often goes out the window when confronted by the actual circumstances. I hate promising things and not being able to deliver.:confused3

As far as not being able to spend much time with me goes - I was delighted that you all were getting to live your dream and as a very good mil/grandma (I hope) that was fine by me.

What a nice way to say obnoxious!

There was a bit Diva Drama (which is to be expected with 5 women with strong personalities) but personally didn't let it spoil my fun! :cloud9:

I know Diva Kristin and Missy without subtitles! Trust me, that is an awesome thing for someone with my lack of memory for faces!!!

Obnoxious?? Trust me if I thought that I would have the words to use and they would not be the ones I used. :lmao:

Did the wee one get swept away with all the water on the Backlot Tour?

I am delighted to hear that you had a bit of Diva Drama. Makes you all a bit more human. How it gets dealt with makes all the difference. I prefer to throw my snits at home where it is not costing me money or vacation time.

I fear you might be a bit right about your assessment of Lucy. She will never be a Disney lover. I did catch her tapping her toe and even heard a laugh, once. She is not as enthusiastic as I but then who is?:rotfl:

I wish you could have seen my face when I walked out my door, turned right and saw your door. It tickled my funny bone. Thank you all for giving me your Princess Funny Faces picture. I plan to put it with my favorite Disney things and I do not keep a lot of stuff. After all I only have 18 rooms and so I have to be careful with what I store.

Nah, I held on to her!

I can find you the clip art for it so you can make a t-shirt, another cling or something else with it! I'll even print the transfer out for you and mail it to you so all you have to do is iron it on! :thumbsup2

Kristin, you are just not what I think of when I hear the word 'diva'. You deserve the treatment though. You are overwhelmingly nice and I do appreciate all your kind thoughts and offers. Sit down, put your feet up and rest a bit.

I took pictures of your doors as well. I have an extensive Disney folder on my computer. I will have to add pictures of the Divas to my collection. My only regret is that I did not get a picture with you all.

BTW, next time I go to Disney I am going all alone! I have come to the conclusion that I am capable of driving alone and in fact it would be far easier on me. Lucy is a sweetheart but when you have someone else along, being that I am of the same ilk as you, you do for them and forget yourself along the way. It was not the relaxing vacation I needed. I would not have minded if she had shown any signs of enjoying herself. It is fun to share Disney with others.

I am off the play with children. I live across the street from the Community Center and they allow me visiting privileges and sometimes the kids come on over here. I love it! Not enough grandkids in my life and there seem to be some grandparents who are not interested. I am. I set up a library for the small ones this year. It is my passion, kids and books.

Can't sit still...depression might set in...gotta keep busy... planning our next adventure! :cutie:

I know...didn't even think of not having a pic with you until after you left...:sad2:

Sorry your trip did not turn out as you had hoped...gone with Disney Divas and their families in the past and found out first hand how much family dynamics differ...:upsidedow
Some of us are more compatible than others...we don't plan to spend all day, everyday together...every family has a different agenda, Mary has girls, Becky's boys love thrill rides, my DS LOVES SpaceShip Earth and Carousal of Progress! We plan to meet for one meal a day and take it from there, if we hit a show, ride or attraction together its bonus (although my DS being an only child really looks forward to having a friend to ride with...guess he gets tired of Mom & Dad all the time! :confused3 )
Problems occur when you try to do everything together :scared:

Don't know if you know but I taught high school English for four years before I became a SAHM (also have worked in day care centers...) now I substitute for our district. :teacher:
LOVE to read, books, etc...obssessed with trying to get Diva Mary's daughters to read the Little House on the Prairie series because they go to Laura Ingalls Wilder Middle School! Took them to the library over the summer and checked out the books...Mary later told me they didn't want me to find out they returned them without reading them! (Can't they just watch reruns of the TV show? :happytv: )
They come by it honestly though...Mary & her DH aren't big readers (they are big runners...Diva Mary AKA Fitness Fairy has run marathons and teaches exercise classes! I still can't believe we are friends! )
But Mary did ask to borrow my Walt Disney biography (Walt Disney: The Triumph of the American Imagination by Neal Gabler 912 pages!) I told her she had a whole year before our next trip to get through it!

D K, it figures that I would be drawn to you. I am an avid reader, always have been. Contrary to reports I do not TEACH reading. I teach the LOVE of reading, an entirely other thing. I try to reach children who have had a bad experience along the line and joke them into not being afraid to read. Successes are few and far between but when they come they are priceless! I like to think I have changed a few lives. I have my own books and the children are allowed to write their names in the books when they read them. Some are now writing their names under their parents. My husband did not 'allow' me to work outside the home so I have fitted in bits and pieces of a life here and there.

I love the Little House series and have been to Laura's home in MO. Good reading and a great way to learn a bit about American history as well.

Your ds and I would get along well as I enjoy COP etc. also. I see new details each time I ride anything and love figuring out how they did certain things.

I do not want to spend 24/7 with me let alone anybody else. I had several DISers I enjoyed visiting with and the one thing we all had in common is that we were low maintenance and were happy to be together or not. No pressure on anyone. I have a sil who cannot be alone for a minute.

Next time we get a picture OR I will send one of me and you can just Photoshop me in.

Been over with the kids and getting ready to pick up my 17 year old grandson and take him to the doctor. I am very worried about him. He is my heart as he is my first grandchild and that is special. Of course, so was my second, third etc.

I still have not been able to contact my friends in Texas to see if they are alright. They live near Broaddus.

What might your next adventure be? Bet it is a doozy!!

SG/Linda (since you are an English teacher I should explain that I do know where to put commas etc. but I am lazy)

I have a double major in English and History...when I taught full time I taught British Literature and loved incorporating history into my lessons! :teacher:

My DS is truly a product of his environment...his Dad and I both love history and have dragged him to national parks, monuments, battlefields, presidential homes/graves since he was a babe...not to mention great literary sites (we took him to Nathanial Hawthorne's House of Seven Gables and Walden Pond when he was 4 months old!) he seems to enjoy it as much as we do...hope that doesn't change! EPCOT is his favorite park...he loves having his passport stamped in each country!
I do not want to spend 24/7 with me let alone anybody else.

Not a native Texan so I'm not sure where that is...

What might your next adventure be? Bet it is a doozy!!
We are driving home to Pennsylvania @Christmas..DH wants to stop places along the way but told him with the weather that time of year we should just concentrate on getting there and back! We are planning to take a road trip early next summer (when DS gets out of school) to Washington DC/Williamsburg (where DH & I spent honeymoon! :cloud9: ) via the Smokey Mountains maybe a stop @beach (DB and DSIL live near Myrtle Beach! :beach: )

Wow - you guys were right beside us! We were in 6133 - saw ya'lls door decorations for our whole trip!

Okay, as a woman who loves history, all things English (even have subscriptions to British Heritage and other mags AND can name all six of Henry's wives) as well as reading and verbosity I have to ask if you are up for adoption. :rotfl:

All of your vacation plans are also places I have been and greatly enjoyed. I love to tread where my heroes have been before me. Nary a historical site has been unscathed by me. ;) Brookhaven Gardens near Myrtle Beach is a must see. Gardens, sculptures as well as a delightful tea house with homemade goodies. Lots of seafood in the nearby town as well.

My own children have never been interested in anything I am. They think I am plumb stupid as a matter of fact. Odd since when they get in trouble I am the one who gets them out. I was telling my daughter that she might want to consider a few steps for the coming financial crisis but she told me that it is against God to plan. Heck, I thought that is why He gave us brains and He might expect us to use them too! :scared1: Now I have to do more things to cover their posteriors when Armageddon comes. :rotfl:

Yes, my boy has mono. His mom is telling him that he has to take it easy and cannot work the upcoming town celebration (he and his friends are on trash detail and ride around on golf carts and stay awake all weekend). His dad thinks otherwise. I could make a pretty buck off betting which will win out IF I could find anyone willing to bet against my sil. :confused3 The best I can do is leave the back door unlocked and hope that he falls in and takes a nap occasionally.

I have been spending hours a day, every 92 minutes trying to win John Mellencamp tickets for my sil. He is a local boy.

cymbaldiva, you were closer to my room than the other Divas. I was the can of corn lady with the Goofy stuff. :dance3:

I have to trim bushes and pull weeds again this weekend. Does not seem fair as I had them all done up before I left.

Have a great weekend all! SG
