My daughter and her husband are planning to rent DVC points next April and stay at OKW. They have been to WDW before, stayed on property and used one of the Disney Dining Plans. They would like to use the Dining Plan again. However, when they called Member Services to see if it's possible, they said that they wouldn't talk to them because they weren't members. When she talked to another dept. that they transferred her to, they said she would have to ask Member Services...a bit of a run-around! Does anyone know if you can use the Disney Dining Plan when you are renting DVC points? They would like to join DVC eventually, but want to try it first. The Dining Plan is important to them. Please let us know if you have had any experience.

You can purchase the dining plan..Only the member can make the arrangements for it, however, and you pay when you arrive. There is no communication between the renter and member services. Hope this helps.

If they want to rent a villa in April, they need to be finding a member very soon to make that reservation for them. If they wait too long, they may find out there is no vacancy. What you see on the WDW website is not what is available with a points reservation.

We are renting a studio in April at OKW to do the DVC tour and purchase. We decided to purchase the deluxe dining plan this trip since the kids are not coming. We are eating at all the nice TS places and drinking nice wine and staying up late and sleeping in. No rope drop, no character meals, no commando anything. The person we rented off made our DDP and ME booking for us. You will need to have your reservation number to make any DDP adr's. You should get the hard copy of this from your renter. We were able to get all the ADR's we wanted today at the times we wanted with no problem. Some prime times were already full however. We prefer to eat later due to the time difference:goodvibes

I am renting and the person I am renting from has requested the dining plan. If I wanted to upgrade to the deluxe plan on arrival would that be possible or do I have to upgrade before a certain time such as 5 days before arrival?

The choice of more than one plan hasn't been available to DVC until this upcoming year, so we don't really know. But since the dining plans are operated by Disney Travel and not DVC, and they have to be linked into your reservation, I would assume that to upgrade it has to be done by the member a few days prior to arrival.

??? wait. If you buy a dining plan you don't need park tickets? How much more is the dining plan then for DVC members than anyone else?

:::more confused every day:::

The price is the same.

So how does DDP work with a large family? is everyone's points put on one card, or does everyone get their own card? So at the end of the dinner do you give all the cards to the server to settle the bill? What if you are dining with another family without DDP? seperate bills for DDP and cash family?

just wondering....

To clarify...you still need park tickets to enter the parks, whether you are on the DVC version of DDP or not. You simply do not have to purchase those tickets as part of a package, nor do you even have to buy the ticket directly from Disney.

Unlike cash customers on the package through CRO, this allows current AP holders to buy the dining plan without having to buy at least a one day park ticket. It allows other people in your room to have different types of park tickets. Some could use up days on old hoppers, some could use MYW tickets, and others could use Annual Passes.

All dining credits are encoded onto all room keys. For instance if there are five people in the room, and the reservation is for 5 nights, there will be 25 credits on each room card. But all room cards will be encoded with the same reservation number. Sort of like having multiple copies of an ATM card. Everyone with a card can access your balance, but the banks computers won't overdraw the account.

At the end of dinner, only one person in your family needs to present a card to pay with credits. As Chuck said, the total will be subtracted from your bank of credits.

For any other purchases such as meals for another family, alcohol, extras not included on the DDP like glow cubes, there will be another check. You can also use your room card to pay for those purchases, put them on a credit card or pay with cash. We have just put them on our room charge with no issues at all.

From what I've read, WDW restaurants are great about separate checks so if the other family pays for their meals and you are also buying wine, etc.., there will be three checks.

Obviously, it would be important to let your server know at the beginning of the meal what your plans are.
