Hi all- My family and I are thrilled to be visiting wdw this October- and even more excited about receiving the free dining plan! We plan to live high on the hog for the week and use our tickets to have appetizers, entrees, and desserts at dinner. I was just curious, for those who have taken advantage of the dining plan ( and used that puppy for all its worth ) how much weight did you gain, if any? :earboy2:

Oh, crud. I hadn't thought about that...better start my diet NOW! :earseek:

I haven't done the dining plan but last we went my aunt was on WW. She just didn't worry about it and ate watever, whenever she wanted. She was on her first trip to Disney after all! We did so much walking she didn't gain anything.

Have fun and happy eating! :flower:

I have an insatiable apetite. The only way I have managed to maintain my weight is to use the Weight Watcher guidelines I got a few years ago (joined for a month). Given the choice between two snacks, deserts, or beverages I like equally well, I choose the one with less calories and more fiber. There is a lot of tasty food out there that is actually good for me.

Chocolate mousse vs chocolate cake, Fl red grapefruits, whole grain rice, Raisin bran cereal (big difference between brands!), the list is endless.

Having said that, I certainly wouldn't deprive myself during my big vacation of the year!

OK>> confession time.

I have been on a Strict Atkins diet for 2 1/2 mths.... lost 35 lbs before my Disney trip.

I was NOT GOOD on the meal plan.... ate, ate and ate.... I gained 8lbs.... but with all the walking, it was because Carbs were back in my system. 6 days since I have come home.... back on a strict Low Carb Diet.. and the 8lbs are gone. (usually there is an 8lb water gain with a LC diet).

I know I did not have to have that Strawberry Sundae.. but it was SO GOOD!

Neither my DH or I gained a pound. We walked so much I thikn it made up for all the extra desserts lol

We had the dining plan and I thought we ate too much! But we didn't gain anything - all the walking and sweating in the Florida sun. :flower:

just eat what you'd like within reason!! My dh and I will probably share items and on buffets I will go for the fruits, veggies, and seafoods and lean meats...I will use no butter ie eat potatoes and breads plain...etc PLUS it is my guess you will walk at least 5 mi a day so in WW terms you are going to get some extra activity points and such...I am a WW gal with only 3 pounds more to go til goal. I just live life now and do it it moderation, that is the key. Have fun!!! Drink lots of water and fresh items and fiberous foods with whole grains... :flower:

Our first trip was in Sept. 2003, and even though I was not on a particular diet, I ate what I wanted, and I lost 6lbs. on that trip. As far as this next trip goes, in Sept. (should've been there right now, but got better rates, and free dining for Sept. so couldn't pass that up), I have started to change my eatting habits now, and we started walking to get the legs strong, we are going to enjoy the free dining. I already have all of our choices made and come the last week in June, I will have our ps's all done.

I also am a little concerned with this (lost 38 lbs so far) and started another thread before this called "eating healthy in the world" - check out some of the posts there for some eating healthy tips inside the parks but remember you are on vacation and with all the extra exercise you'll be getting it's okay to splurge a little!!! :sunny:

You know...you are going to be expending some extra energy while at WDW, too.

Add the 10-12 miles per day you will be walking to your daily workout, and voila! You can afford a few extra calories, as long as they are smart calories! Order cake, but don't eat it all! Fill up on the healthy stuff and reward yourself with a couple of bites of the sinful...At least that is what I plan on doing!

We went to DW in May with the Dining Plan. I've been dieting since January and have lost 35 pounds.

Well, after being good for so long I did eat anything I wanted. I gained 5 pounds back in a week. However, I did get right back on track as soon as I got home and lost those pounds right away.

Just have fun and don't worry about it!!

if you have recently lost a lot of weight and worried about the dining plan, these are my suggestions. Your goal should be to stay the same, or gain 1-2 pounds. Once you get back and return to your normal rountine, the weight will stabilize at your pre-trip value after about a week.

-While your there, drink water to stay hydrated but not too much.
-Eat the least amount of fried food as possible, focus on limiting all fat content throughout the day but allow for 1 big desert and maybe 1 smaller one throughout the day
-Eat breakfast but have something small
-Continue to do a bit of exercise when you wake up and go to bed
-**THE MOST IMPORTANT IF YOU REALLY DON'T WANT TO GAIN WEIGHT** Most of the food consumed before 4 hours before bed will be burned off from walking, etc... If you completely pig out everyday before bed you will definitely gain weight. After dinner (especially on Dining Plan), don't eat anything, don't let yourself get sidetracked by funnel cakes during the late night illuminations show. And make sure you walk a reasonable amount after dinner.

hope at least one tip helps for those interested.

The one part of the plan I didn't like  The first time we did the Silver Plan on our honeymoon neither of us gained. Second time was Gold - I gained about 4, DH lost 5 , we both ended up getting sick right after getting home, so my weight was easily lost. In Nov. we had a longer trip and split btw Silver/Plat. I was also on a new preventative med. for migraines and I think that didn't help (one of the side-effects is weight gain). I gained 8, DH 5. Not fun. But it was worth it ;)

Thanks for all the honesty guys, lol. I'm 21 and 5'8 and was a big eater and was heavy my whole childhood. I topped out at 235 pounds last spring and got motivated to lose weight- my current weight is 124. I am a little nervous about all of the temptation that Disney offers, but I have decided to just enjoy the time (it's only 6 days) and have whatever sounds good. I will eat a bunch of salads when I return home if my weight has gone up. Salad always does the trick! Hope you all enjoy your dining plans as much as we plan to! :bounce:

wow 124 is like skinnier than the average model at 5'8....

I know what you mean about the weight loss and congratulations! Just know that treating yourself doesn't have to feel like 'pigging out', you can still eat mostly healthy with a special dessert here and there. Even if you gain a pound, you'll get rid of it. If you eat roughly the same as you do now and add a dessert a day, you might gain a MAXIMUM of 1 pound in 6 days - assuming no additional sweating and walking.
