Disney Dining,DIS Meets, and WAIT-Why is that lady holding..... FINAL THOUGHTS 11/27

Great updates. Sounds like a pretty good day at Epcot even if there was some sulking.

Thanks! :)

RTR! WOW to all the new changes in the stadium-----the new closed in South end zone, and all the ribbon boards, and four new big screens in each curve. It looked great! :thumbsup2

Sounds wonderful. Can't wait until there is a game at Bryant-Denny that isn't on pay per view, so that I can see the changes. I would love to go to a game, but it's just too expensive.

Day 5---Wednesday, May 26

When we were finished, we all agreed that, unfortunately, Akershus did not live up to our expectations—food quality, that is. If you are the parent of young girls, I do think that it is one of the best ways to meet the princesses, and would be worth the money just for that. Since our girls are older, and Reid doesn’t really care about the princesses (We had to make him have his picture taken with each one!!), we probably won’t eat here again.

We ate there last time, and we feel the same way. My then 3 year old son was happy to see the princesses, but the interaction wasn't that great and the food wasn't that great. So we will pass from now on. I do like that the picture is included with the meal. I wish all character meals included it, that is without increasing the price of the meal. I mean they print out the pictures anyway, so come on, just give them to us.

By then, it was around 4:30. We decided we would return to Beach Club for some rest. As we walked back toward World Showcase, and International Gateway, we took some time to stop and smell the flowers---literally.

I love this picture. :lovestruc

Sounds like something my daughter would do (and she is 30 yrs old!). It seems every time I try to appease her, she bites my head off. oh well....:confused3 I'm glad at least that your daughter was happy again and hope you all got to cool off back at the Beach Club (I'm guessing some ice cream at Beaches & Cream!)

Great update!

Sorry to hear the food was disappointing at Akershus. That is one my must do list for next trip. We'll see if DD still has any interest in meeting the princesses next time. If not maybe I'll change it to Cape May. That would be my pick if it were up to me.

Sorry about Elizabeth's mood. Sometimes you just need some space to sulk alone for a bit. Glad she cheered up later.

Thanks, Michelle! :goodvibes

I'm pretty sure you watched some college football during the weekend! ;)

I did watch a ton of college football this weekend, the least favorite of all of the games I saw was ours! Oh my, it could be a long season........

The best thing I can say about the game is that our new video intro before kickoff is really cool

Thanks for the super massive update! I'm sorry Elizabeth got moody, I'm just starting to see that attitude in Justin and I'm not sure we'll all survive his teenage years

Yikes! I can't believe your breakfast bill, definitely not a place to go when you aren't on the dining plan!

I'm guessing you guys hit up Beaches and Cream too.

I'm caught up again after falling behind (school started, etc...). I'm echo-ing everyone else's guess of Beaches & Cream! :thumbsup2

The photopass pictures were wonderful. I also enjoyed looking at the princess pictures. Reid had a smile on his face in the pictures. By favorite is the picture from Canada.

Great update!! That flower picture is soo beautiful! I am so in awe of so many Disers' photographic skills-- so many of you all take such professional, amazing pictures!
Ahh, we all remember being those sulky teenagers and thinking our parents are such a drag!! TT was perfect-- who could be in a bad mood after riding that??

I just started reading and I'm hooked, I've read your pretrip for this one and now I'm reading this one, page 23 now. It's late and I'm off to bed, will continue tomorrow. By the way, I love the Beach Club, It's our favorite!!!!!, plus we love the private entrance to Epcot.

Looking forward to reading more.
TexasBelle

I am looking forward to Akershus--just for DD to be able to see the princesses, especially Ariel. Hopefully she will be there for us!! Cute picture of you and Becky!

Emily reminds me of my DD some days!! I have said a number of times, I feel like I know what having a teenager is going to be like. :rotfl2:

Looking forward to reading more!!

Hey Michelle! I have no idea how it happened but I realized that I wasn't getting any emails when you updated. Turns out I was "unsubscribed" to the trip report.:confused3 You probably thought that I had fallen off the face of the Earth. So very sorry.

Anyway, I'm all caught up again. Kevin sounds just like John. "Where are we going again?" "Where are we eating?" "What's next?" Love that our men let us do the planning and just follow along.:thumbsup2

Too bad Elizabeth was in a sour mood. Lacey did that once and I never figured out what the deal was and she certainly wasn't about to tell me what it was either.

Now that I am subscribed again, I promise not to get behind.

Finally caught up! Love the TR. The shots of your gils on main street then and now made me bawl like a baby. Will that be my babies one day? Wow! As long as they will still enjoy a real family vacation to WDW like your great kids I think I can handle it. Anyway, I'm following along. :thumbsup2

Epcot is such an easy park to have a meltdown in! It's so huge and there is very little shade in the WS. Glad the air conditioning in TT helped lighten the mood along with your DH! :thumbsup2 I'm curious to see what it is that re-energized everyone...a nap???

Great update, Michelle. I love the Photopass Family photos.

Thanks, Kathy! :)

Welcome Back :) great updates. Oh boy, the teenage years, not looking forward to those.....I can't see some of ur pics-little red xs.....

Thanks, Mary! :)

Hmmmmmmm..........I'll have to check out the little red xs box and see what's up.

I think sometimes the heat and the walking and the constant "togetherness" can get to us all.

I completely agree! :thumbsup2

Sorry that the Norway breakfast was a bit of a disappointment, food-wise. That bill... :scared1: That dining plan can be a good value!!

I will have to confess to getting into my own sulky moods from time to time on vacation so maybe it isn't a teen thing.

If we're on the dining plan, I definitely try to maximize the value.

If we're confessing, then I probably have gotten into my own sulky moods while on vacation! ;)

Great update! We did Akershus with Brooklynn when she was 2. She absolutely loved it. We were on free dining on that trip, I definitely would not pay out of pocket for that meal it is super expensive.

Thanks, Jill! :) I can see that a younger child would really enjoy eating there and meeting the princesses. It is super expensive, though---good value on the DDP since it is only 1 TS credit. :thumbsup2

How cool that you were able to meet Becky! I think I am more excited over that picture than the one with the princesses!

Me too! :)

I know all about sulky teenage attitude. In fact, I even had to put up with sulky pre-teen attitude from Connor on this past trip and have the pictures to prove it.

What? Connor is your happy go lucky child, isn't he? I thought that maybe boys would escape the sulky attitude.......Or maybe not?

I am going to guess there is nothing like Beaches and Cream to rejuvenate you. :thumbsup2 Or a nap.

Hmmmmm, :rolleyes1 I think both those things would work to rejuvenate a person!

Am I right?

:rolleyes1

Wow - a great update! That is awesome that you and Becky got to meet! I hate that Elizabeth was sulking, but I have to tell you, we have seen plenty of that attitude around here. Did she ever say what it was that upset her so badly?

Hmm - someone said Kitchen Sink....I wonder...

It's funny - our one and only blow-out argument on our '08 trip with teens was over the Kitchen Sink. In this case, I wanted to go get one and they DIDN'T! Imagine that!

 I imgaine you've dealt with all this girl moodiness in years past, haven't you, Susan?

I can't imagine anyone not wanting a Kitchen Sink!

Love the new update :thumbsup2. I can remember Amanda having days like Elizabeth was having :confused3. I never had those days as a teen :rolleyes1:rolleyes: :lmao:.

Thanks, Dana! :)

I'm sure I never had any days like that either! ;)

Great updates. Sounds like a pretty good day at Epcot even if there was some sulking.

Thanks! It was a good day regardless---We were at Disney! :)

I do like that the picture is included with the meal. I wish all character meals included it, that is without increasing the price of the meal. I mean they print out the pictures anyway, so come on, just give them to us.
I agree! :thumbsup2 At Chef Mickey's, they wouldn't even give us the receipt with the ID # so we could have the prints on a photopass CD. I asked and was told that we had to first purchase that picture.

Sounds like something my daughter would do (and she is 30 yrs old!). It seems every time I try to appease her, she bites my head off. oh well....:confused3

Tell me no! I would hope the attitude diminishes!

Great update!

Sorry to hear the food was disappointing at Akershus. That is one my must do list for next trip. We'll see if DD still has any interest in meeting the princesses next time.

Well, you know that sometimes we parents eat some not -so-great food, just to make our kids happy. :) If I had younger girls who really wanted to meet the princesses, Akershus is a great choice---a little less expensive than the castle, and easier to get an ADR!

I did watch a ton of college football this weekend, the least favorite of all of the games I saw was ours! Oh my, it could be a long season........

The best thing I can say about the game is that our new video intro before kickoff is really cool

:laughing:I understand---Just in the time we've been season ticket holders, we've suffered through the Fran and Shula years.

Our new video is cool , too! :)

Thanks for the super massive update! I'm sorry Elizabeth got moody, I'm just starting to see that attitude in Justin and I'm not sure we'll all survive his teenage years
.

Hopefully we'll both survive these teenage years! :thumbsup2

I'm caught up again after falling behind (school started, etc...). I'm echo-ing everyone else's guess of Beaches & Cream! :thumbsup2
I understand about falling behind.......

Beaches & Cream sounds wonderful! ;)

The photopass pictures were wonderful. I also enjoyed looking at the princess pictures. Reid had a smile on his face in the pictures. By favorite is the picture from Canada.

Thanks! :) I was so lucky to be part of a photopass share, so I made sure we had LOTS of pics made!

I meant to comment on this before, but forgot... The Disney food blog actually did an article on these sometime in the past year. The ears are marshmallows!

Thanks Denise for telling me that! :thumbsup2 Now that I know, I can see it so clearly in the picture!

Ahh, we all remember being those sulky teenagers and thinking our parents are such a drag!! TT was perfect-- who could be in a bad mood after riding that??
Exactly! :thumbsup2

Glad you've joined in! :) At the rate I'm moving, you'll catch up in no time! ;)

Thanks, Stephanie! :)

By this time, you've already eaten at Akershus---Can't wait to hear how Lilian took to seeing the princesses!

You probably thought that I had fallen off the face of the Earth.

That's ok, Lisa. I have to admit that I haven't been too good of a DISer recently myself!

Sounds like we both have good husbands! :thumbsup2

I think Elizabeth's mood was one of those situations where she wouldn't say what she wanted, and was mad that none of us magically read her mind and knew what she wanted!

Finally caught up! Love the TR. The shots of your gils on main street then and now made me bawl like a baby. Will that be my babies one day? Wow! As long as they will still enjoy a real family vacation to WDW like your great kids I think I can handle it. Anyway, I'm following along. :thumbsup2

Thanks! :) AND, yes....One day you will take a picture of your grown "babies"---and it will happen more quickly than you think.

Epcot is such an easy park to have a meltdown in! It's so huge and there is very little shade in the WS. Glad the air conditioning in TT helped lighten the mood along with your DH! :thumbsup2 I'm curious to see what it is that re-energized everyone...a nap???

You are so right, Brooke! WS is hot, and we'd done so much walking----We were all hot and tired.

A nap is best enjoyed after an aftrernoon snack!;)

Day 5 continued---Wednesday, May 26

As many of you have already guessed, after leaving Epcot that afternoon, we decided some refreshment was called for--------in the form of a cold treat at Beaches & Cream. :thumbsup2

IMG_1527.jpg

We decided to go for the Kitchen Sink! The description ---Eight scoops of ice cream served with all the toppings in the house and a whole can of whipped cream! :dance3: It also stated that it served 4. Silly Elizabeth worried that it wouldn’t be enough for the 5 of us!!! I think she realized that there would be plenty when our server brought us 5 small bowls/spoons, with a huge soup ladle!!

I had read enough about it to know what was going to happen, but I didn’t tell anyone else in the family. So we all sat there waiting……..and then the lights went dim, and started flashing. Our server came out carrying our “snack”, and announced to everyone in the restaurant what we had ordered! :rotfl: Then he was nice enough to take our picture!

IMG_1528.jpg

Here are a few more pictures before we dug in and it started to melt---

IMG_1530.jpg

IMG_1529.jpg

Before anyone can ask……NO, we did not finish all of it---not even close! It was yummy though, and seemed to pep everyone up.

We returned to the room still hyped up from our sugar rush to discover a new towel animal left for us-

IMG_1531.jpg

It didn’t take long until the sugar rush bottomed out, and we were ready to catch a little nap!
