Disney Dining Add-on

We are looking into a summer 2012 visit and 2 of the people in our party LOVE wine. How does the wine add-on work? Is it a bottle of wine with supper or is it a glass of wine?
Also - if it is a bottle, can one person add on the wine to their meal plan and then share the wine with another person during the meal?

You receive "wine credits," one per night you stay, useable the same way you use the dining credits. Each credit is good for a bottle of wine at participating restaurants.

The wine add on costs $40 per night per room reservation, not per person. One add-on is allowed per room. Wines under $50 cost one credit, wines over $50 generally cost two credits per bottle. Not all wines on all wine lists are eligible - any wine priced $100 per bottle or over is excluded. To get one's money out of the plan, select wines with a regular price of at least $40 for one credit and $80 for two credits.

I do not know if the wine can be shared with persons who are not on the same room reservation. Generally Disney prefers that the dining plans are not used for people who didn't buy them.

We had the wine add on for our Christmas '09 trip. We had a really nice wine at Artist Point that was priced at $99! I know wine is hugely marked up but still we would have never tried a $99 bottle of wine!

It worked well for us on that trip, we really enjoyed trying new wines.

But for our upcoming summer trip we didn't purchase it. We don't feel we would drink a bottle of wine with dinner in the summer heat especially if we are going back to the Parks after the meal. In December we had mostly signature dinners and then went back to the hotel.

I am really glad we tried it once and may do it again in the future but it isn't a must do every trip.
