Disney Destinations Email - Emails compromised

.... a really nice CM took all my info and said that a manager would get back ahold of me as i too got one of these delightful emails...dirty buggers!! :headache: My computer recv'd a serious virus, worms, malware and my daughters tech project final was stuck in my frozen/fried computer which she now takes an F on. You would think a tech teacher would understand the situation, not! Had to take the computer into the shop yesterday to have everything removed, checked, resolved...$164.00 :scared1: later. Well the CM took my info asked if I had a receipt for the cost- gotta love paypal and now i await for a manager to call me back. Those poor CM's what a hassle for them to have to deal with too but i am going on the better with honey than vinegar theory and didn't shout or blame - keep your fingers crossed for me on a positive outcome, this really hurt!!:surfweb: We have a trip planned and now how do trust any future emails?!?!?

I'm confused as to how Disney is responsible for your daughter's F and the demise of your computer. My emails warned me to be alert to the possibility that someone might send me a virus/worm via email so to not open suspicious emails. The hack happened 3/30/11, did you open a suspicious email after 3/30/11, which caused the virus/worm to infect your computer? If so and you know that that email caused your computer issues, please let us know who it came from/what it looked like so that we don't repeat your mistake.

I got the same email from Disney and another one from Kroger/Smiths. My husband got one from Best Buy too. These emails all came within a week of each other. What is going on? It had been years since I received an email like that prior to this week. At least it is just address/email address info. My husband had all of his info stolen last time and was given free credit monitoring for a year (which we already subscribe to and pay for anyway).

I like the idea of Disney mailing a pin to everyone (or posting the end of the year deal now, if they will have one). I did receive a December pin, but it only hit 3 of my 7 vacation dates. We like the suggestion of a pin that covers our whole trip. Here's hoping!!!!

Oh, for the love of.... :sad2:
do people not understand that Disney is NOT responsible for this problem?
It is the email servicing company they use (along with hundreds of other companies) that has the problem.
Disney was kind enough to let all of their Disney Destination users know that their emails may have been compromised, whereas a lot of other companies would have kept it under wraps. We should be commending Disney for stepping up to the plate to try and protect our computers and information.

They don't owe anyone any kind of compensation. Case closed.

Just received an email from Hilton Honors with the same type of message I received from Disney Destinations.

I do not think Disney or any company owes us anything. People were just thinking the email was going to be a pin code and were disappointed to see it was a security breach. I took the sending a pin code in gest. It was funny, not serious.

Based on the fact that people keep getting email after email from different companies about breaches, I am guessing that most companies do notify their clients. Hackers are getting into a lot of companies address books lately, so I hope people are not adversely affected by this (with the loss of their computers or worse). It is unfortunate it is happening, but I am not sure what it anything the service provider that was hacked can do.

There was a GINORMOUS e-mail breach that affected *a lot* of companies over the weekend. I was wondering if Disney might have been part of that group. The article I read didn't specifically mention Disney, but it did say that it was far-reaching and listed more than a few companies that got hit.

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

BTW I always have so much fun at Craigdarroch! :D

Apparently, many other institutions were hacked and email security breached. I received several emails today from banks and such apologizing for any inconvenience.

Any company that uses Epsilon for their emails has been hacked, actually the companies were not hacked but Epsilon. Most major companies use them for their email marketing, I have gotten about 6 emails today and some from places I haven't seen an email from in years.

I also agree that Disney is not responsible. For example someone hacked into your credit card account and went on a spending spree. You are able to call your credit card company and call it fraud and the card company will reverse the charges (at least mine does) So because of this anyone who received funds from those transactions and had them reversed will then be able to come after me because I allowed my account to be hacked? Nope....so same goes with Disney. An outside company they used had their system hacked and so yeah SPAM :)

Of course this is yet another reason I broke down and got a Mac....no system shut downs for me (crossing fingers)

Welcome to the Mac world! You can still be the victim of a phishing scam, even on a Mac. Caution clicking on email attachments or links.

Loyal Mac user since 1989. :cheer2: :cloud9: :yay: :thumbsup2: :woohoo: :flower3: :goodvibes

Disney is only by default it is the dirty stinker that sent out the "Disney Destinations... Important info about your upcoming vacation" email that i opened w/nothing in it which promptly went away after opening. As we have a upcoming trip i opened it and shortly thereafter it all went kaplooy on the 31st. Due to the virus/worm effecting my computer anda very un-understanding tech teacher she is currrently taking an F. I'm really surprised I haven't got anything from any of the others as i have walmart and chase too. I'm not hoping for anything i just want to see what ramifications and resolutions there are about it. Crikey it makes you not want to open anything up anymore not even attachments just a simple viewing of the email from a "trusted" sender!!!!:headache:
