I got the email from Disney Destinations as well. And yes, the least they could do to make up for it, is offer us a pin code. :goodvibes

I received an email from Disney Destinations but there was no message. Guess I know, now, what it was supposed to say.:headache:

In regards to the question as to what the PIN is, Disney will sometimes send out codes for free dining, % discounts, etc., that are NOT available to the general public. People right now are receiving a free dining code (with room & pass purchase) via e-mail. Our May trip is booked with a 35% off Mod code that brought my base room rate down to $102 & $111.75 (w/o the extra adult). Was actually hoping I would get a FD code so I could save our passes for another trip!

I received HSN yesterday, although did not receive Disney or Kohl's. It appeared in the HSN one that they were only able to access a portion of their list, so probably same thing happened with those - only a portion. I received one from TIVO & have no recollection of ever being on their list - we don't use them at all.

Also, in the couple of PINs I have received you can copy & paste the PIN in if I remember correctly vs. clicking on a link.

Email but no message for me either. I wonder why some of us didn't get the message. Any chance that our accounts weren't compromised?

I also received one from Disney Destinations. :sad2: Hoping to get some great pin codes after this major flub up!

.... a really nice CM took all my info and said that a manager would get back ahold of me as i too got one of these delightful emails...dirty buggers!! :headache: My computer recv'd a serious virus, worms, malware and my daughters tech project final was stuck in my frozen/fried computer which she now takes an F on. You would think a tech teacher would understand the situation, not! Had to take the computer into the shop yesterday to have everything removed, checked, resolved...$164.00 :scared1: later. Well the CM took my info asked if I had a receipt for the cost- gotta love paypal and now i await for a manager to call me back. Those poor CM's what a hassle for them to have to deal with too but i am going on the better with honey than vinegar theory and didn't shout or blame - keep your fingers crossed for me on a positive outcome, this really hurt!!:surfweb: We have a trip planned and now how do trust any future emails?!?!?

A PIN code will not make up for this.
I got the same email. Disney is making light of this, but it's quite serious. I saw a report on the news today and it says that people whose email's were compromised are at serious risk of having their computers infected regardless of opening suspicious emails or not and that our CC information is definitely at risk.
The abusers aren't actually using your email to send spam or viruses... they are using it to hack into your system and wait until such time as you do your online banking or use your CC, then they steal your information to access your bank account and CC information. They gather your passwords and being that they have your email address, they start using that information as if they are YOU. They can even order new credit cards in your name based on that information and have those cards sent to your "new" address, which is actually their address (however, you'll be on the hook for the payments).

Disney and any company using this email system should be ashamed and should be bending over backwards to try and correct this.

craigdarroch, I was told by CM Benjamen, that only the email accounts were hacked, not home address, phone numbers(contact numbers), bank accounts or any cc. The email accounts are run by a different company from the other information that is on file. And that all other personal information is encrypted. But I still thinking they (Disney) is taking this too lightly.

I received this email too....

Amazing because I thought that Disney didn't even have my email seeing as I get no other mail from them despite giving them my email address numerous times (as in NO PINS)

Well I'm sure CM Benjamin is telling you exactly what he was intructed to tell you for the sake of damage control. If it makes you feel more secure to believe that, then I suppose Disney has taken the right approach. I'm more inclined to believe the news reports stating that this was a malicious hack of not just "Disney" emails, but of all companies affiliated with that email system in attempt to gather information.

i don't know if the action would have occurred that quick and can you prove that this incident was at fault?

I am with you on this one..I don't believe that CM for a minute...I have gotten multiple emails from various companies I shop at etc..I am really worried about this and it has been on the news here too.It is a very BIG deal and no discount in the world is going to fix the problem if my financials and identity gets hacked

Late last year, my credit card number was stolen -- to this day, I still don't know how ...

When you pay with your CC at a table service restaurant and give the server your CC, that person walks away and goes out of your sight for a few minutes. If that person has a small portable card swiper in his/her pocket, that is how your card number can be stolen. They could make note of your security code on the back of the card, too. Try to think of situations where you gave a stranger your CC to pay something and they left your immediate area, not just at restaurants.

I just picked one of the quotes with multiple companies, not to pick on the poster, but if this hacking was done to more than one company - major amount of companies, I was wondering if you were all expecting each and everyone of the companies to offer you "something" for what happened or are you holding just Disney Destination accountable? It looks to me that the third party who was hit is actually accountable for what happened and that is who you should be going after.

I am sorry this happened but anyone that thinks this is unusual and wants to blame Disney is naive and over reacting.

Good grief, governement security sites get hacked. It is the nature of the beast. The only way to avoid it is, not to have an email account, do no business online and never use a credit card.

I am not blaming Disney nor do I expect compensation...I expect the problem to be addressed and fixed.I was commenting on the people that said Disney should send a discount to make up for it..I was commenting to show It is NOT a disney-only problem, that many many companies are involved that use this 3rd party provider that was hacked.

Please don't take offense, I even stated in my post, that I picked yours because you noted that it was more than one company. My "you" was a general you and not a specific you. I am sorry if you were upset by my post, seriously it wasn't meant for you specifically.
