I will pull for the HORNS if you pull for the DAWGS. My 11yr old DS is already talking about going college in TX so he can be a Longhorn. I think he wears his HORN hat more than he does his DAWG hat.

Lynn
Okay!
Go DAWGS!!!

Ya know .. I COULD wait until someone asks if they want to know how I do it ... but then I'll probably be away from the PC for the afternoon. So, I'm posting it now .... (ETA: Yeah - someone is interested! LOL)

Egg Yolk Tempra

INGREDIENTS:
1 egg yolk
1 teaspoon water
5 drops food coloring

DIRECTIONS:
Mix egg yolk and water.
Divide into dishes for as many colors as you want to make.
Add food coloring to get shade desired (e.g., 2 Red plus 2 Yellow for Orange; 3 Blue for Blue).
Paint on unbaked cookies and bake as you normally would.
Cookies will come out with shiny color finish.

*This makes a shiny gloss finish on most any cookie. Works best on light color cookies, like sugar cookie cutouts. Depending on the color you are going for, you will probably need between 2 and 8 drops of food coloring." Original recipe yield: 1 quarter cup.

Lisa's notes:
Most often, I use small pyrex custard dishes for this project. I have also used kitchen dixie cups in the past. Oh, and make the colors a bit darker than you want --- they are lghter n the cookie.

If you try it out, let me know. I'd love to hear how it worked for you.
I was going to ask about this.
I think we are going to make penut butter first. as my dad has been asking for them for over a month. LOL will try sugar cookies later this week. will have to go buy some paint brushes first.

I just bought a basic set at the dollar store so hat we could have one in every color. I usually mix up a few eggs and make up several colors. Ben loves that the best -- CHOICES. :)

Also, like I said before, we sprinkle the crystal sugar right on top too.

ETA: I have NO idea when we can do this this year. :( We leave next weekend. We come home the following and go directly to my Mom's for the weekend. Then the weekend after that is Xmas!

Maybe I can fit it in after school one day? Maybe make up the dough ahead of time? Or cheat and just buy some canned sugar cookie dough! They're circles -- so we can make "ornaments". :)

At least you have been more "household" productive than me. My husband would probably prefer that right now. The living room is stripped down bare now and dusted. Now I just have to empty the containers and put Christmas out. But......football is on today so it will be a slow process.

I keep coming back here to see what everyone else is doing

I did find it.... that and the donut drive-in! :goodvibes
I had a marshmallow concrete..... AMAZING!!!!!! That and my glaze donut made for the tastiest (yet absolute WORST WORST WORST nutritional value) lunch I can remmeber! :rotfl:

Kyle interviewed at SLU for the Medicine-Pediatrics Combined Program. We ate at Vito's (near the university) with the current residents.... it was ok, but I have heard the Hill has better Italian. I wish we'd have gone there :)

If we match in STL, I'll definitely look you up.... we'll be there a lot starting in March if that's the case!! I love it... we have family there, so this wasn't my first time in town. I did do a lot less touristy things though, and more shopping centers, checking out suburbs, etc. DH tends to like KC better because of the "small town feel". That same "Small town feel" drove me INSANE!!!! :earseek: STL is a lot like Cincy.... I could live there :teeth:

It would be absolutely awesome if you lived there. You would have family and we would have a chance to meet also. We go to STL usually once a month with kids for dinner and once a month just the two of us. We usually go down on a Tuesday and spend the whole day shopping, etc. We really like it down there.

Great Game!!!! I knew you would be posting during half-time. I am gonna switch over at watch a bit of Army/Navy. I am a big Army fan and they could use all the help and pixie dust they can get. Navy usually wins almost every year.

Wow! This brings back memories, Lisa. We used to do this when I was a little child. But I remember my Mom adding lemon juice so the icing had a little zing to it! :goodvibes

Lisa, if you let the ready made sugar cookie dough come to room temperature, you can roll it out and cut out cookies the same as with homemade dough - just use a little powdered sugar instead of flour to keep it from sticking while rolling (this way the dough won't get too stiff).

Cool! I didn't realize that. I have never used that "tube cookie dough" stuff. Wait! I take that back! I was the proverbial college student and DID at the chocolate chip dough raw from the tube with everyone else!

I wonder if I "ball" them, would I be able to use cookie stamp? I have 2 cute little Mickey stamps (got them at the Dollar Tree).

Thanks for the great idea. I can almost probably make time with pre-made dough. :) I hate to miss out on certain family traditions ....

I bet you can, just sprinkle the balls with powdered sugar before you stamp them.
