All kids are picky at that age. I would just take her to the carnival and let her enjoy herself. Don't worry about the MIL. In my experience, mine is going to hate me no matter what, so it really doesn't matter what I do or tell the kids.

With my MIL, I don't let her be alone with my kids. My little ones are age 8, 6, and twin 3 yo. MIL is the queen of online dating and likes to tell stories (inappropriate ones ) about all her men friends to my kids. Pardon me, but I don't want my 8 year old DD listening to inappropriate stories about her grandmother. She also likes to tell bedtime stories to my kids prominently featuring Armageddon. However, don't get me started. I could go on for hours about my dear MIL.

My MIL is a wonderful woman - we are just very different and have very different opinions of how I should act and raise my children -

She is a great grandma and drop everything at the drop of a hat to be there for me or my kids - we just aren't friends and I don't always know how to react to her!!

Ok I am going to post the designs I want to use next December. :teeth:

Glad you like them. :)

Had to go with Tink instead of Pooh because dh says I am spoiled. And I admit, I am. :teeth:

I found these two clip arts that I want to use. Does anyone have anything better? I am going to make two kid-size aprons for when my two grandkids come over to make Christmas cookies for Santa.

Ok, want to Thank thoes who did these designs.

Mickey and Minnie Christmas, The Dark Side of WDW - julia & nick's mom

Lumpy Birthday, Dumbo, Donald and Tink - momof2OH

The Mickey Certificate - Brendita

Colorful WDW with characters - Sorry don't remember

Kate - It sounds like your MIL is not very kid-knowledgable, as she expects them to act like little adults and not kids. My advice is to go, have fun at the carnival, feed Julia whatever she likes, and deall with whatever remarks your MIL throws at you. Then reply "uh-huh" to everything. If you agree with her she will not have anything to argue with you about. All the while remember in the back of your mind all of us here discussing this, and try not to laugh out loud.

My MIL, on the other hand, lives in Chicago, won't fly, drive or take a bus. We took Nicholas to visit her and FIL when he was 6 mos. old. She hasn't seen him since, and has never seen Alyssa, who will be 4 in April. She sends a few dollars to them for Christmas/birthdays. Occasionally it gets to them on time, when she remembers ahead of time. When I found out that this was going to be a one-way arrangement, I let my DH know, and luckily he is as unhappy about it as I was. Needless to say, there is no loveloss between she and I. We had a huge blow-up, when she expected us to drop everything and fly to Chicago at the drop of a hat, when her other son got deployed to Iraq, so they could have a "family get-together" before he shipped out. I told DH to go ahead an go, since it is his brother, but if they have no interest in seeing their grandchildren, I am not making an effort. Of course, this is just the tip of the iceberg. There are alot more issues to this dysfunctional family relationship. For a long time it really bothered me knowing that my children's grandparents had no interest in forming a relationship with them and getting to know what wonderful kids they are, but now I just don't care. What scares me the most is that the only family they have are eachother, me and DH, and my parents. I have no brothers/sisters and DH has a brother in TN, whom they don't know. My DH's family is not close at all.

Enough. Sorry, Kate, I didn't mean to go on like that about my issue when you posted the original problem.

Elin, I will be looking for that shirt at MVMCP.

And I love the new designs.

Lynn, for someone who doesn't know how to post pictures, you are a quick learner and an over-achiever.

Yeah.....I am on a roll now. I am thinking about asking for Photo Impact or whatever it is called for Christmas. For those of you who are designers which program would you suggest??

OMG Glynnis - Can you image the pictures that your kids would have in their heads when they grew up? I remember my g'ma as a grey haired, short, slightly plump, woman wearing a house dress and baking. They would remember their g'ma in a mini-skirt, talking about clubbing and destroying the earth. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: . I don't blame you - I wouldn't let her be alone with my kids either.

I would be afraid to be left alone with her MIL and I am 38 :earseek:

11 pages to go until we reach 1000 pages!!!! Can you believe it?? It could be tonight if we are talkative. I am going to be away from my computer off and on since I am doing some Christmas baking.

AMY!!!! are you there?? Just wanted you to know that I am NOW in my PJ's!!!!

After reading through Denise's trip reports yesterday I started wondering...maybe you folks with older kids can answer...at what age did your children lose that sparkle and excitement that is all over Denise's kids' faces?

She is lucky because her kids are the same age and will outgrow it roundabout the same time. But what did you do when one child was outgrowing the Disney magic but the other child was still full of belief? I am not ready for this.

Don't worry, I won't turn this into a thread about my "dear" MIL. Although there are some stories I could tell that would curl your hair! I am afraid to be alone with her and I've known her for 17 yrs. It's a wonder DH turned out as normal as he did.

Hi Tammi

My boys are 8 and 11.....they still are in love with Disney. Not so much the Disney movies since they are older but as they get older there is even more for the older kids to do and enjoy. Space Mountain, Test Track, TOT....I could go on and on. Think about it......how old are we and we still believe in the magic.
