So ... the other question is ............ how much is it to buy into the program????

If you want to cry.... when we went on our honeymoon the price was $50 a point (we didn't buy then ) and the prices have climbed since then!! When we bought in 2002 they were about $72 a point. Currently they are $98 a point... but if you use an existing DVC person as a reference you can have 15% toward your down payment. IE: Put down 20% but only 5% comes out of your pocket. I don't know how long that lasts though. I've learned one think over the years (we went on the tour three times before we bought): the price never goes down!! It just rapidly increases. Our honeymoon was in 1996; less than 10 years later they have double the price per point.

I would love to sell my WL contract and buy at BWV but I don't want to deal with closing costs and ROFR - so I will just have to wait until our points are paid off - we bought the year Julia was born so just 6 more to go!!!

DVC is the best investment we have ever made - we get to stay at the luxury resorts and come vacation time - I don't have to pay out of pocket for a room AND food and souveniours etc - so we really do everything we want - DH and I calculated the rate we would have paid to stay everywhere we have and we have had our contract 4 years and have already paid for it!!! Although it was sometime during Julia's teacup ride with Belle that DH turned to me and said - okay - DVC was worth it!!!

I am Disney obsessed - I like to vacation other places and this really gives me the chance to still go to disney and other places - the DVC money is built into our budget - I don't even think about it coming out each month - so really we usually try to do something else every year as well - something small and affordable - Disney is out big splurge and DVC makes it possible!! Otherwise - I could never talk DH into going all the time - we have tried to work out a schedule where we will go in October - buy an annual pass - go again the next October before our AP expires - and then take a year off - I heading into the off year and it is killing me!!!

What is DVC - it is basically a Disney timeshare - it stands for Disney Vacation Club - you buy the number of points you need for your family and then you get to stay on Disney property - you can stay anywhere - but your points go further at the DVC resorts (old Key West, Boardwalk Villas, Beach Club Villas, Wilderness Lodge Villas, Saratoga Springs & Hilton Head Villas, Vero Beach Villas) Youcan get a studio which is a basic hotel room but with a kitchenette - a one bedroom which has a washer and dryer - two bedroom - which is a one bedroom with a studio attached - after that I am not sure what there is - but it goes all up to a Grand Villa

That is the whole reason behind us buying it!!! Think back to the best memories of your life and I guarantee the look on your children's faces at Disney will rank high on that list!!

Oh, by the way, we added 50 points at OKW so that we can reserve there 11 months out. Why don't you consider doing that for BWV??? We own at BCV, but always stay at OKW. We did stay at VWL, but found the rooms to be very dark and we didn't realize how much that effected our mood. The same vacation we stayed at VWL first and then went over to BCV. Our mood brightened significantly once we got into the bright and airy rooms at BVC. We were surprised!!

Wow .... sounds nice but I just don't see it happening for us. I'm thrilled I can get my DH totally into the Disney thing when we go (shirts and all) but I don't see us locking into something like that. PLUS ... we sort of have a small lake cottage for vacations.

I admit -- I love the idea that I'm staying at the Poly .... BUT .... in general, I don't much mind WHERE I stay. It's a room and I don't usually spend much time there.

We have SoG avaialble to us and as a Vet, we always will. I know I've heard some negative things about it as a hotel, but I think it's because people are comapring it to other Disney hotels. There's no theming - get over it! LOL You can't go in and expect it. That's not what it is. I enjoyed our last stay and I'm sure we will enjoy this one too. Heck -- it would cost us more to stay at the All-Stars!

Maybe ... someday ... if a windfall should come our way ... well look into DVC.

Oh yeah ... and I should ad that we have friends of the family that love in Orlando that basically give a us a key to the house when we visit.

She HATES "plastic Florida" and "the big rat" but tells us to have a good time.

so adding on just 50 points and I can book all my points there? I thought you could only book with those points - hmmm -guess what just went on my Christmas list!!!

I totally agree about VWL - I popped over to BWV my last day and just knew what had not been quite right about my week!!!

Paul ooooppps I mean Skunka Hunka makes all the reservations so I am always a little sketchy about the minute details. I don't think you can reserve the entire stay, but we've never had a problem. Then again, we've never gone at the most crowded time in the park.

All I do know is that anybody that I've ever talked to that has purchased DVC has NEVER complained. Oh wait, they have -- and they always complain that they didn't buy sooner!

I am trying to think about what to do on the front -- if anything. They are front zip hoodies ---- so a big graphic is not going to work.

Any thoughts?

Kate - could you use all of your powers and come up with a design, any design, for Skunka and my adult only birthday getaway??? Of course, the more sarcastic the better!!! Thanks!!!!
