Disney decorating outdoors!?

Okay, I know we're all Disney crazy...and many of us have Disney-inspired decor in our homes, maybe even a room or more dedicated to the mouse (like our "Mickey Room" home office)...now I'm finding myself looking at the yard now that most of the snow is gone, and I'm having visions of Disney landscaping (sort of!)

Just yesterday I just realized that the house is already close enough to the right color of blue/green to add maybe some white shutters, some white lattice, maybe some white fencing, some accents, a little landscaping, and we could really do an "Old Key West" theme in the yard.

Have I totally lost it? Or are there others of you DIS-ers who have been similarly inspired? Have you done any exterior touches on your home to reflect your Disney dreams? If so, what? Sharing your pictures would be cool, too, if possible!:)

We had a flood in our house three years ago. We had to replace a lot of sheetrock. That meant a lot of repainting. The entire house had been mostly taupe walls with taupe carpet when we bought it. And we removed all the carpet and put in Engineered wood and Italian tile floors - no carpet any more. So we decided to use a little color in the rooms and started looking at paint colors.

Imagine our surprise on our next trip to OKW and we saw that the colors we picked for our rooms/halls were OKW colors.

I live in a small apartment, so right now my Mickey room(which is indeed my home office) will have to do. However, I am already planning what is want my house to be, and I know my garden and landscaping will be an Alice in Wonderland theme. I also already have some colors picked out, and laughed on our last trip bc it was okw colors. I had never been there so it was a coincidence, but now I have even more ideas.

Nothing Disney in our yard right now, but we'd love to have something along the lines of the Fantasia broomsticks garden near The Brown Derby in Hollywood Studios. One of the stores in the Contemporary concourse has miniture versions of these same statues, about a foot high, as part of their display. I'd love to have a few of these in the yard.

If they ever re-do the decor of that store and those statues wind up on MouseSurplus.com, I'm all over it!

We don't really have many inside touches of Disney at our house.

Outside we have a small area off our front door (about 2 feet wide and 3 feet long triangle shape) that we have 2 Mickey Garden Gnomes, with a gazing ball in the middle and right now all our spring perennials are coming up so we have flowers growing in behind them.

DW and I want to build a house on an acreage in the next 2-7 years and if that ever happens, I want to put in some bricked flower areas that I could over plant with patterns inspired by current year EPCOT F&G plantings. (Much smaller scale of course! :rotfl2: )

A couple of years ago, I picked up the Disney Gardens book, at least I think that's what it's called. I love it. Haven't done anything yet, but I love the way they plant in mass groupings for impact. Maybe this will be the year we do it!

The closest I come is going to the workshops at the F&G and dreaming! Last year, we made wildflower seed balls and I still have a few so I'll put some more in. Mostly last year, pink and white cosmos came from the ones I planted and they looked very nice.

This year we planted caladiums in pots, so I'm hoping to have something for a container on our porch from Mickey!

Well after Katrina went through we need everything and it just happened that Wilderness Lodge was being redone. We bought two whole rooms of stuff and that is how our whole house is decorated.

We just got back from the flower and garden fest in march so when we put down flowers I did it like Disney does... I bought the six packs and planted them all together just like disney does in the gardens. So now we have tons of color all together.

while attending a F&G event this month, I was given a flyer from HGTV.

The magic of Disney and the Inspiration of HGTV are coming to a backyard near you.

Currently the only disney stuff outside (other then holidays) are the Disney flags we have for the different holiday's times of the year.

I hope to add more!!:hippie:

Thanks, LauraLea, for the info on HGTV, my favorite TV station! I think it would be great to have Disney TV show on HGTV! A few years ago, I decided to paint my house yellow, with trim in salmon and pink, brown and blue, and white(it's a big old house). Several of my neighbors asked if I had planned to advertise my new red-light career:scared1: Disney friends of mine knew immediately that the colors were from Disney, painted on the bridge over by BWV. As part of a new social studies series,I had to read a book, called(I think)"Mr. Plumbean's House" where the man changed his house to reflect his dreams, and it had an effect on me, so I painted my house in colors that reminded me of Florida!:happytv:

A while back we got some Disney topiary wire frames and made topiaries out of them. They aren't the big ones you see in and around WDW, but the Mickey Mouse is about 18 inches high. Not sure if they still sell them.

Back in the "old days" when SSR was the Disney Institute Villas, there was a horticultural studio where classes were held. They had topiaries and the coolest life size "men" made out of clay flower pots sitting on benches. They were also growing full sized corn and sunflowers in half whiskey barrels!

The one thing I want to figure out how to do outdoors is make somewhere (maybe on the front door threshold) one of those concrete pads that has the fiber optic lights built into it like those on the ground outside Innoventions at Epcot.

We also have Mickey motif outdoor hanging candle lanterns we got from the Disney Store online catalog.
