Disney Day of Service

I believe you can also donate the ticket to a designated charity, get special fastpasses or some kind of gift?? I think its a good way for some of these animal shelters, charity groups to get some new volunteers and some help. If we didn't plan on using the ticket I would donate it to one of the charities they have listed.

You apply the amount of a one day ticket (the voucher) to a multi-day ticket.

We are applying the amount towards our APs.

I do lots of service things for our community- two of them qualify for "give a day, get a Disney day" so, I signed my family up to do a "day" of service, which ours is fulfilled in 3 hours...

My question is...for people who are buying packages (hotel, tickets, transportation) from Disney, is it really THAT great of a deal to get a free day? I don't think that it is, considering- adding on an extra day of tickets is so cheap ($6 per person or something close to that). I having nothing wrong with donating my time for our community- my family does it a few times a year...but Why would I (or others doing packages through Disney) think that it's a 'great deal' to get a free day?

Is this ment more for locals? Or people who aren't already planning a week (or longer in our case) trip just to go to disney? I don't think Disney NEEDS to offer me free days for doing services for our community- and others would do them as well. I think it's a great idea to get more people doing things for their community and Disney is doing a good service...I'm just confused as to why people getting week or longer packages would think that this one day ticket is that great of a deal. I'm not trying to say anything is wrong, I just have questions about it. I don't know all the info. apparently.

Can the voucher be used to purchase a ticket say in the hotel before you get to the park? Or can they only be redeemed at the ticket gate in the park? I don't want to be held up because I am buying my ticket.

so if we were going to book a package in december, how would we go about applying the voucher? would we just tell the cast member when we book about our 'give a day' vouchers and they would apply it?

I have my activity! I signed up for it over the weekend and heard back yesterday. It is to make goodie bags/baskets for homebound senior citizens. I bought a bunch of stuff today, and found really cute plastic heart shaped baskets at $ Tree, so now I need to get my kiddos together and make them up. It was suggested 5 bags per volunteer, so I got enough to make 15-20. It was an expensive activity-it cost me about $60 total, but it is right up my alley and 3 WDW tickets for $60 is still a great deal! Plus we can do it on our spare time, which is the best advantage!

Here is what I have:

sample sized shampoo-WDW:goodvibes
magnifying glasses
socks
razors for the men
small picture frames
Nutrigrain bars (suggested by the host)
PB crackers
sugar free hard candies
playing cards
toothbrush/ toothpaste
sugar free powdered drink mixes
antibacterial wipes
small packages of tissues

I hope this is enough. Oh yes, I bought some kiddie valentines and I will have my boys sign them "Happy Valentine's Day" and stick one in the basket.

I admit, my husband and I are doing it for the special fastpasses.

are the special fastpasses good for an entire park for unlimited rides? for example, if i cashed in the voucher for the fastpass the day we are at hollywood studios, i could conceivably ride toy story mania as many times as i want via FP?

i just called WDW twice and they said that if i were buying multiple day tickets that the free day would only amount to about $10 or so. is anyone else getting them to discount a full day's price?

I understand there are blackout dates when you can't use your free ticket. Does anyone know if you can use your free fastpass during the blackout periods?:thumbsup2

I just called myself to talk about purchasing APs vs 7day tickets and was told either way I would get $79 credit towards the purchase of the AP or 7day ticket. I asked about the vouchers being prorated against the number of days (for instance only $34 off vs the full $79 on a 7 day) and she was positive it was the full $79 that would be applied no matter what type of ticket was purchased.

The trick is you need to start with just the volunteer ticket. Then you can pay the difference to get whatever kind of ticket you want (getting $79 credit or whatever the price for a one day base ticket is when you redeem it). You cannot, for example, start with a 3 day ticket and then try to use your volunteer ticket for $79 towards making it a 10 day ticket (there is no combining two tickets to make a third one).

Just printed mine today :-) We aren't going until September, but I thought I'd take care of it early. I also saved the PDF file and emailed it to other members of our travel party in case I lose the paper copies.

In my area, there are only two places that allow children ages 6 and above, my dd is 8. Both have not replied to my request and it's been more than 5 days. :confused3

It sounds like in order to get the full $79 cost of the ticket, one would have to wait to buy the tickets until they present the voucher at the gate right?

I am leaning towards using the voucher for the fastpasses and also wonder if there is a limit to the amount of times one can ride. I posted this on another thread and saw that is it being asked here too.

We don't know yet. My guess is that it'll be more like those Dream Fastpasses from 2008 where you get to use the FP one time for each FP ride. But wouldn't it be great if you can use it unlimited times that day?

I did read that "all members of your party" have to be present when receiving the Fastpass at Guest Services, so I'm not sure how they are going to check IDs but they don't just want you using it for just anyone (or for those more nefarious, selling it in the park).

Since we are doing a family reunion, I was hoping we could share the FP with multiple people, esp for the kids who like the wild rides and my own parents who don't. Now I'll have to choose which people I want using the FP and who doesn't get it...I can see some difficulties with this...may just need to keep the FPs for my immediate family so as not to cause hard feelings...

I believe someone is going in March and someone else in April on this thread who were planning to get the fastpasses.

I was wondering how long is it taking for people to get the voucher? DH and I just signed up for Sunday 2/14 (aaahhh.... Valentine's Day) and we leave on Friday 2/26. It says people typically receive them w/in 2 weeks, we go in just under 2 weeks. For him we are using the free ticket, I have an AP so I was going to get the fast pass.

I completed my service on 1/22 and received my voucher on 1/26 (so two business days after I completed my service).

The fast pass option they offered in lieu of free admission on your birthday for last years' celebrate promo was even more limited than the dream fast passes they gave out during year(s) of a million dreams. I wouldn't be surprised if this was something similar, although IMO best case scenario would be to have access to each fast pass attraction once.

I imagine we should start getting some 1st hand reports soon.

Oh, I forgot about that one ... how did that one work?

They most likely won't put names on the fastpasses, they just need to see five extra bodies to make it valid for five extra people. Which five bodies use it at the attraction is up to you.

If one fastpass isn't enough for your group, other members could volunteer and get their own. If everyone did it (and you aren't there during a blackout day), you could possibly have one for everyone for six days.

Example: Your group is 12 people who all volunteer. Each day, the whole group goes and two people redeem their voucher for fastpasses (you need the rest to get the fastpasses for the correct number of people). Voila... everyone gets a ride (and they can still get regular fastpasses too). Do this each day for six days at whatever park you happen to be in that day.

Yep, my DH and I are signed up...I'm trying to get the rest of the group to do it too, but so far they say they can't find anything they "want" to do...

And I hope you're right about the 'no-names' on the FPs...I can definitely get 5 other bodies to show them at guest services!:thumbsup2

I'm bummed, got an email from the organizer of the opportunity we signed up for saying she was just contacted by Disney and was informed that they do not consider the event she organized to be eligible for the GAD Program. She said she's appealed the decision and is waiting to hear back from them, but for now it's off. There's nothing else really that works for us...we leave in March. Darn!!

Just keep looking everyday! I finally found something yesterday and I could just sign DH and I up for a time, we didn't have to wait to hear back from the organizer. I am not thrilled about the time slot we got (as I was signing up the time I wanted became unavailable), but I am happy with the organization we got. It is at a center for diabetes education... my friend's GD goes to camp there every summer and diabetes runs in both sides of our family.

We did our volunteering last night. We volunteered at a thrift store that opened a few months ago. We were the first ones there & by the time we were done there were about 20 people there all for the Disney program.

Now off to plan our Disney trip :):banana:
