Disney dangled the visual weinee & Mickeystoontown gobbled it up! 10/26

Hi... Mostly a lurker here:coffee::coffee: I'm enjoying your report so far!!! I'm staying at CBR for the first time in November so I'm really looking forward to reading more!!!!!

I'm here!! Better late than never :thumbsup2

So glad the Country Inn worked out for you, but I'm sorry you didn't enjoy the amenities I arranged for you in the fridge :rotfl:

Lisa you get my first DIS post! Have been following your TRs since the 'hopping tooth" at the electric umbrella. Have been living thru you until we can be back to the World (last time 10/2006!). We stay at CBR also since our honeymoon afraid to try something new. Can't wait to hear about your two weeks.

So close! Sorry to hear about the food in the fridge, you are much more patient than I am. Can't wait until you arrive. :)

Thanks for the great update! We used to do a lot of road trips as a kid and Hunter's pictures sure brought back a lot of memories for me!
:)

We love road trips! Hunter takes after me and takes pictures of everything.

Isn't it strange the things that you see on the side of the road on and road trip!!

Yay! Your almost to Disney!!

It's amazing what you will see if you are looking for crazy/weird/odd stuff.

Wow, what a nightmare of a road trip this time! :scared1: So much traffic and construction. :sad2:

Glad you are finally about to roll right through the gates of heaven, my friend! :cloud9:

There was soooo much road construction and delays. It added almost two hours to the trip.

Whew, all that driving and traffic made me nervous just reading about it! Probably why I fly instead of driving. :rotfl:

You definitely saw some interesting sites along the way though. Some of those stores towards the end look downright scary. :scared1:

I totally agree with you that once you stay onsite there is no going back!

Beach smell coming up!

I don't like driving in big cities because those folks are used to it and I'm not. We have been in most of those tacky stores that line Hwy. 192 and they sell the typical junk souvenirs. Nothing really to take home with you though.

Yay for the first update!! So excited that you got yours started :goodvibes Sorry you had so many traffic troubles, but you made it work by taking the "old" way there. And lots of interesting pictures along the way!

Oh, and that Cafe Risque sign reminds me of a similar establishment in North Carolina that I've passed many times. I think it may even be the same place, just a different location, as the billboard looks the same! :scared:

We were so ready to just get to Disney already and all of the stops and starts seemed to take forever.

I bet that the Cafe Risques are owned by the same people/company. YUCK!

You missed the building right near the citrus tower: the Presidents' Hall of Fame!
Complete with a replica of Mount Rushmore!

We always stake pictures of quirky roadside attractions!

We all saw it though! I think by that time, we were in "just get there already" mode. ;)

You are almost there. Hunter took a good sample of life on the road in sign and different types of buildings.

Hunter is a picture taker for sure and I'm glad since I don't like taking pictures while driving (though I have done it for the sake of a trip report or two :rolleyes2)

Let me just say that it exceeded all of our expectations! The resort is beyond fabulous and the island is gorgeous!

We loved it so much that my DH has been interviewing for a job there!

Oh my gosh! Seriously? You've got to keep me updated on the interviews. ::yes::

AWESOME! Just what the doc ordered, sumtin to help pass the time and build my excitement --- according to hubby that is NOT possible!! Anyone got a spatula to peel me off the ceiling?? 5 years is a long time with no WDW!!

Now where is that drink? I know i put it somewhere........

Glad to see that you're enjoying the report! Holy cow! 5 years since you've been to Disney? You're more than ready for another trip!

Yay, it started! At least your drive is sort of interesting. About once a year we drive from Colorado to California and for large portions of the trip there is nothing to look at. In fact, there is a 118 (I think) mile stretch in Utah where there is literally nothing. There are signs warning no services for the next 118 miles. At least we only do it once a year, and once we get there we get to go to Disneyland, and see family of course.

I remember the drive from our house to Durango, Colorado. It sounds like the road trip that you take across Utah. You could see nothing but dirt for miles and miles and miles.

So excited I found your new report! Can't wait to read more...you guys always look like you are having such a great time!!

Welcome! We do have a fun time together and can't wait until we are ALL back there again.

I seldom read trip reports since I live less than 30 minutes for "The World" but for some reason I decided to read yours. I was laughing so hard at your photos my daughter thought I went crazy. The pictures of Minneola and Clermont show my developement's entrance and and the things I take for granted every day. So we are wierd are we? I love it.:rotfl2:

Welcome! You really do live thisclose to Disney....you lucky duck! Nah, you aren't "weird" just some of the stuff that is close to you is "weird". :lmao: I hope that you'll continue to post as I love hearing from everybody.

Sorry to read about getting stuck in traffic. :sad1: Is it possible you ran into rush hour traffic in Mobile since you left home about 5 hours early? I'm guessing when you leave home later in the day you avoid driving thru Mobile during the afternoon rush. Rush hour is bad enough but then to throw in some road construction makes it really bad news!

I went back and looked at my pictures and I saw one that had 6:52 or 6:25 on the clock when we were in Mobile. I don't think that we've ever been through there that there wasn't traffic. Well, except for the time that we passed through around 11 at night.

Speaking of the "We bare all" billboards, my DH on this trip offered his momma to stop for crabs for lunch. She was a little excited thinking we were going to Joe's Crab Shack or something like that. He pointed to the sign as we passed and said, "There, Mom, what do you think?" She proceeded to knock him with her bag. :rotfl2:

It wasn't quite the "crabs" she was looking for. :confused3

Oh my gosh! That story is absolutely hilarious! I love it! :rotfl:

WOOHOO!! We are on the move! It's funny how many odd things there are out on the road! We miss a lot of them when we drive overnight, but you caught some good ones. :drive:

I feel like singing "Almost there"!!

We usually miss a lot of the odd things too because we normally drive at night. This time, we were able to see a lot more. The strip between Pensacola and Lake City (or is it Live Oak?) is pretty boring and there's nothing really to see there.

Yeah! You're almost there! I remember seeing a lot of those same buildings. 192 was a nightmare for us. Traffic was absolutely crazy!

Wasn't 192 horrible this time? I've never seen it that bad before.

It's just not a road trip without some traffic along the way huh? :faint:

I bet those last 22 miles felt the absolute loooooongest! That's about the time where you're just SO close, but yet so far because you just wanna be there already!

Love all the pictures that Hunter took of the things on the sides of the road! :)

I guess not though I'd rather not have the kind of road luck we had going this time.

The last 22 miles DID seem soooooo long especially since we had to take the route that goes through a lot of little towns. Like you said, it was close but yet so far.

Yay for your boss being away during yur departure day! :thumbsup2

I always enjoy your drive because I have never been to that part of the country and I'm sort of a map geek. I like to see roads on a map and follow their paths through major cities.

So you drove close to 12 hours the first night before stopping. And you arrived to a refrigerator full of food. Yuck.

I totally did not recognize that highway you were on leading to Kissimee. I love some of the tacky, funny things you see in Florida. I feel like I noticed some of the exact some sights driving to and from Tampa.

So let the Disney World fun begin!

Mary Ellen, when I was a kid, we used to go to Arkansas a lot and my parents would take a different route almost every time. I loved the feeling that we were "exploring" the state. I guess that's where my love for the road trip first started.

Yep, we drove all that way/time and were greeted by a refrigerator full of leftovers.

Once the construction is done on Hwy. 192, I'd suggest that you take that route sometime just to see what's outside the pearly gates of Disney.

I, too love the tacky things.. and the "sights" I am NOT an interstate driver. nebo was. driving on the interstate scares me half to death! and your bridge pictures? yikes!!!

You sound like my sister and niece. They won't get on the interstate unless it's the only way to get somewhere. And, my sister used to actually lie down on the floorboard when we crossed a bridge. I don't care for bridges too much myself because of my fear of heights but I do okay so long as I look either straight ahead or straight out. Do not look down!

I am so jealous of you that your drive to WDW isn't too long.. without the bridge, I might be able to handle it. and YOu don't have to go through or around ATLANTA!! that is my nemesis.

Don't get me started on Atlanta traffic! My daughter went to Mission Georgia Master's Commission in Cleveland, Georgia and we had to go through/around Atlanta when we visited her. I drove with white knuckles the entire time. SCARY!

while driving through Tropical storm LEE, we had to pull off, Nebo couldnt see a thing. I took abver and drove through almost the whole state of Georgia on 27 (yes, it too ALL day.. lol)

but, you get to see the country side! I never knew Georgia was so pretty! all I ever saw of Ga. was what ou could see from 75 (red clay, and lots of signs for pecans, peaches, vidallia onions, and.. your favorite signs.. adult book stores and "the like":rotfl:)

What I wouldn't give to stop at a little place called The Tomato House right outside of Cleveland, Georgia. They had the best Georgia produce.

when we used to drive down, we would often leave a day earlier than we planned and stay on 192 that first night. we were in Florida! we would lie vy the motel 6 or Knights Inn pool. then eat at ponderosa , walk to Old town. and turn in early.

check into our WDW resort at about 9 am!!! yay!!!

That's very close to the Days Suites we used to stay at. They almost shared a parking lot with Old Town. I spent many days/nights at Old Town. We talked about driving over there again this trip but I didn't want the construction/traffic hassle.

Hello and good morning!:wave2:

I'm not often on the DIS, but I've read your reports before and have always enjoyed them.:)

It's never a dull moment when road tripping, is it?:drive: From traffic to random roadside phenomenoms. I myself am not a fan of car rides, but we've done it a few times from Kentucky.

Looking forward to more fun ahead!

Welcome! Thanks for posting! There's hardly a dull moment among all of us especially when we are on a road trip. I guess that's why we like them so much.

Love the start of the trip!! I absolutely loved reading it - traffic jams and all. I just love a good road trip...

I knew that you would enjoy the road trip pictures. I even talked about you when we got to the big fruit stand with the shark and monster truck.

Hi Lisa! What a start to your trip! I'm telling ya, everywhere I go anymore there seems to be some sort of construction going on! It's crazy!! Here in NJ, they are updating or replacing a lot of small bridges so it's a mess everywhere! I have only driven to WDW once. We didn't hit much traffic but boy did it rain!! I mean, poured!! I hated it! Worst experience ever! Not sure if I would ever drive again! LOL! I hate driving to begin with as it is! Well, can't wait to hear about your arrival to the CBR!!! My home away from home! :cloud9:

Hey girl! I bet that you hate driving anywhere with all that construction going on.

Woo Hoo! A nice long update! :cool1:

Booo! To bad traffic. But even long, slow, car travel is fun when Mickeystoontown writes about it! :confused3

We're almost there! We're almost there! We're almost there!!! :yay:

I had hoped to get another installment posted but when I looked at Photobucket, I didn't have as many pictures as I thought uploaded. Of course, I didn't bring my memory cards with me to work so I guess it'll have to wait until tomorrow.

Just wanted to say HI Jacqueline and have a great time on your trip..

Lisa this a great start! Can't wait to see more "odd" pics..

Thank you! I should get another update posted tomorrow!

Hi... Mostly a lurker here:coffee::coffee: I'm enjoying your report so far!!! I'm staying at CBR for the first time in November so I'm really looking forward to reading more!!!!!

Welcome! Thanks for posting. I hope that you'll continue to do so. Can I stow away in your luggage?

I'm here!! Better late than never :thumbsup2

So glad the Country Inn worked out for you, but I'm sorry you didn't enjoy the amenities I arranged for you in the fridge :rotfl:

Welcome aboard! If you had ordered something besides ribs and left some bread, we would have been good to go. :rotfl2:

Lisa you get my first DIS post! Have been following your TRs since the 'hopping tooth" at the electric umbrella. Have been living thru you until we can be back to the World (last time 10/2006!). We stay at CBR also since our honeymoon afraid to try something new. Can't wait to hear about your two weeks.

Welcome! I'm honored that you've posted first here on my report! Wow, you've followed along for a long time!

So close! Sorry to hear about the food in the fridge, you are much more patient than I am. Can't wait until you arrive. :)

Yep, soooooo close but yet sooooo far. :hyper:

I was very happy to find this. I have been following the CBR thread since we started to plan our fall trip and I 'm so grateful for all of the information that you post there. I'm looking forward to hearing about your trip.

Hi! I am usually a lurker on your reports but I have decided to finally start commenting! I get to see everyone's DisMeets and it makes me slightly jealous! I want to make Disney loving friends! Haha! Anyway, I love reading your reports and I cannot wait for your next post!

Usually a lurker, but I have read several of your past trip reports. I love your family! You have such an awesome time. Glad to be following along on this one!:)

:jumping3::wave2:Hey there! Coming out of "hiding" and following along, your report sounds like it's going to be fun!

I'm exhausted reading about that road trip. :worried: That would have bothered me with all that traffic. I know when we went through Kississimme on Mark's last business trip to Florida the traffic was awful with all of the construction. Obviously it was still going on for you. :(

But now you've arrived and I can't wait to hear all about it.

Thank you for the text message, friend.

HI Lisa! Joining in a little late but I've now read all about your road trip including all the interesting sights along the way. I love road trips and I prefer to do the driving as well. :)

Love it so far! I love that you can see your reflection in the pictures you took of everyone in the car!

And, I'm with you about husbands driving. Mine is terrible. Sounds a lot like John. Always looking around at something else and not the road! I usually drive most of the way on our trips.

I love all the tacky buildings on 192. We're definitely going to come in that way this year!

You arrive next! Yay!

Yeah you are so close. We are not far from Hattiesburg so we take a lot of the same route. I think my kids like going through the tunnel as much as they like pulling up at Disney. We don't get to take the cool scenic route though, we stay on the interstate and the toll road whatever you call it. My DH drives the whole way and he refuses to go another way. He thinks it would slow us down. I did take a picture of the we bare all billboard too.

I was sucked in when I saw the magic and Mermaid stores, I have been in there and now I am hooked on the thread.

Joining in! Read your last trip report and loved it! Loved the sights on the way to FL too. We are driving from PA later this year and can't wait!:car:
