Disney cruises

I only heard about them through this site, so you could be right.

Are there any plans for one next year? May be tempted by one should i enjoy my first cruise next month (well, November) and a simple EasyJet to Barcelona would push prices down :)

:goodvibes

Rumour had it they would be returning to Barcelona but there was also a rumour they would be going to Alaska so not 100% sure. Usually its towards the end of the year they make the big summer announcements but it wont be for next year as I believe next summer all they have added is a couple of extra Caribbean stops (Tortuga and somewhere else). It'll be 2010 before they do another long summer one and then who knows where itll be. I was hoping for next summer but alas no

Next summer the only change is that on the Eastern they have swapped the stop at St Maarten to Tortola and St Croix alternating.

Someone found a port listing showing the Magic in Copenhagen at various dates in June \ July so perhaps a Baltic itinerary.

Regarding numbers of British cruisers. I have never stayed on I drive so not sure what the comment about it being like staying on I Drive was all about but I am certain that I would love every minute of my cruise whatever the nationality of my fellow cruisers. Yes I enjoy thelevel of service you get in America and that is certainly reflected and exceded on DCL but I don't see how having an increased British contingent on board would make the experience so dreadful.

Given the fact that DCL is quite pricey in comparison to its peers and that cruising is not the sort of holiday usually favoured by the much feared and loathed "English lager lout abroad" type tourist I can't see what a huge difference cruising with Brits would make.

But then each to their own - if so many of you are put off then it makes it more likely I will get what I have requested (got a secret porthole requested so at least Wayne won't be competing with me for it!! ;)

I was looking for one of those but they've all gone for the cruise i'm looking at next December. Just waiting for a reply off Dreams Unlimited before I book.

Really recommend DU - we booked with them in 2004 for our 3 night, have booked for next summer for the 7 night Tortola and have requested through them for 2010.

Good luck with your cruise, we thoroughly enjoyed it but came off thinking 3 nights was not enough for us - having had no sea days on the three night I am looking forward to seeing a bit more of the ship.

Don't worry about not getting a secret porthole room though - we were in a category 12 for our short cruise and to be honest we were so busy either in port, seeing shows or having dinner that we were hardly there.

If you like Italian food I would recommend Palo the adults only restaurant especially if you go for the four day so you don't miss one of the other restaurants! The desserts are delicious (I couldn't decide between their famous chocolate souffle and the Pannacotta so they bought me both!)

We did the Transatlantic cruises Disney offered last year and I have to say there were a lot more Europeans and Brits in particular. Not sure if I liked the different atmosphere or not to be honest! Great cruises though!

.

Hi Sarah!!:thumbsup2

Just wondered what the weather was like on the transatlantic?? :confused3

I'm not sure whether I could cope with 6 straight sea days (especially if the weather was dodgy!!) - did you do the WB or EB???? - I really like the idea of only flying one way!!! (And if this time they make it to Bermuda that might convince me too!!!):rotfl:

Just to say, the reason personally I prefer the cruise to be more American orientated is because at the end of the day if I wanted to go to Britian on holiday to the UK I'd stay here! I do think that having the boat contain a lot of British people may change the feel of the boat but then again I also think it depends on the type of British people. I worked in the UK pavillion in EPCOT for a year at the Rose and Crown and you would see Brits come in there who give the rest of the country a bad name! Yes they are the minority but personally my worse nightmare would be being stuck on a cruise with people like that (and I am not saying every Brit in the Rose & Crown was like that just a few)! I go on Disney cruises because they are American otherwise I would go on P&O

I actually was lucky enough to do both - I know I'm mad but did you see how cheap they offered the inside cabins?

On the way over from Florida the weather was awful! The boat was bobbing around and most of the ship was sea sick. On formal night the boat was almost desserted after dinner (apart from me, my mum and sister who were trying to walk down the corridors without hitting the walls). The 6 days were great though as as long as the weather didn't bother you the cruise staff did their best to keep you entertained by putting on extra activities. In fact one day me and my sister had a private deck party because no one else turned up! They even had to close the family pool as the waves were too agressive. This however didnt put me or my sister off and we booked for the return while on board.

On the way back the weather couldn't have been more different! It was beautifully sunny and barely a wave on the ocean. This actually made the cruise less fun for us as there were a lot more people at every activity and a lot less activities. It was sad really but we still enjoyed it and would do it again in a heart beat. The 6 days at sea seemed longer on the way back because of the fact that you had already done 6 days at ports but it was really nice.

I think what most people are getting at is that when you go abroad you want to be wrapped up in that country's culture and the whole atmosphere of things. To go all that way and end up on a ship full of Brits would be a disappointment to me and I'm sure a lot of other people. I love going to Florida because everyone seems so friendly and the Americans genuinely enjoy our company, it just makes for a more enjoyable experience. We want to leave Britain behind for a few weeks and try not to be reminded of it too often while we're away.

thanks Sarah!! I'm glad to hear the weather was better on the way back as that would be the one we'd have to do because of the school holidays.

I will watch out for the prices - at the moment I am planning on the 10 day Christmas cruise but may be tempted with the transatlantic WB!!!;)

We were on the Wonder back in November 06 for a 4 day trip and on the first night I had a case of sea sickness as did alot of the ship. I couldn't make it to dinner and the staff were saying that it was one of the worse nights that they had had for some time and that quite a few passengers didn't turn up for their meal.
Thankfully by the next day I was fine and enjoyed my trip that much that I cried when I left the ship.
We were only 1 of probably 3 British families the other families at the early morning passport control check were Canadian or from South America.
Make sure you take your travel sickness tablets just in case and if you do suffer take them to be on the safe side.

Hi

I've just found this thread and thought I'd put my opinion ;)

I've been on 6 disney cruises of all lengths -3, 4 7 and 12nights

I get really bad motion sickness - cant do the star wars ride at wdw or travel in the back of a car however I have no problems on the cruise ship.

Well there was only one night on my first cruise when we were in bad weather and the ship was going up and down all night -I felt very queezy however I never thought about taking sea sickness tablets. I found out the next day that they have them free in a jar outside the medical centre on deck1.

After that I do take some tablets that my gp recommened (so they didn't conflict with my other medication) and I've not had a problem.;)

I find the cruise very relaxing and its a good way of getting a hint of another country. I have never cruised with any other cruise company - -I cruise Disney as I feel confident with them and I know what there standards are - does that make sense?

Finally regarding brits on a cruise - last year I did a 12 night med cruise . It was amazing -our dis cruise meets thread was nicknamed the Brits cruise as we had quite a few families on from the uk (I think 6 or so) Even so we were a small minority. There were still a lot of American families.

There was very little advertising - the only thing i saw was an article in the travel section of the sun - which actually had its facts incorrect.

For 2010 I am hoping for another European cruise - in the dcl board it seems from dectective work that the baltic cruise finish mid/end july leaving 4 weeks of unknown; As school does not finish till 23rd JUly in 2010 I'm hoping the magic will stick around long enough for me;) We'll find out on Oct 7th as that is when disney releases the 2010 schedule.

Sorry for rambling on - DCL is my favourite topic:flower3:

That'll be me LOL :rotfl2:

After we'd booked I listened to the horn on You Tube and sat there bawling my eyes out! :rotfl:

I cry when I see the ship,

I cry when I board and they announce our names

I cry when the horn goes

I cry when I leave - The only thing that helps is rebooking on board;)

The worst thing is Ware Bears is that the staff are lined up saying goodbye to you, I was that bad all I could do was wave with tears streaming down my face :rotfl:

Pull yourself together ladies, its only a lump of floating metal:rotfl2:
Even I have a tear in the corner of my eye when I see the ships.
Did I actually just admit that?:goodvibes

I wonder if some of these would help before going on Mission Space!:lmao:

I wondered when somebody would say that, I am sure that having kids makes you more emotional - well it does in my case anyway :rotfl:

I must admit that I too get rather emotional on the last day when leaving the hotel, then the park, and then taking off to come home. Watching or listening to the Illuminations music gets me going too. :goodvibes
I imagine most people do but just don't admit to it.
