Disney cruises

Woo hoo!!! :yay: Just jumping in on the end here to say yesterday we have booked our first Disney cruise for 20th December 2009!! :wizard:

It is DH's 50th next year and he doesn't want a party, he said he would rather celebrate it with a cruise!! pirate:

I am so excited I didn't sleep at all last night!! :faint:

We are not going to tell our DDs until Christmas Day ~ don't know if I will be able to keep quiet that long! ;) :rotfl:

Which cruise are you going on? That's about the date we're looking to go on? We're planning on keeping it a surprise for DD's too until we arrive at Port Canaveral! :goodvibes

The 3 night. :) Would have liked to have done longer but we want to be in the parks for Christmas and New Year ........... plus the price of those ones!! :scared1:

I don't even know if I'm going to be able to keep it a secret until Christmas :rotfl:

Eldest DD is off college today and I'm paranoid she is reading this from across the room!! :rotfl2:

That's the one we are now considering. We were thinking of the 4 night on 13th but we don't arrive in Orlando until 12th and it's too soon into our 3 week holiday, we'd rather do the parks while they are quiet in the first week. We're now also looking at Carnival cruises, 3 nights sailing on Christmas Eve for 3 nights and is about the same price as the Disney Cruise on the 20th. The only problem is that it wouldn't be Disney but seeing as my DD's will be early teens I don't think that will be too much of a problem.

Yes, that was our thinking too. We arrive on the 16th and felt the 17th was too early so this way we'll have 3 days in the parks before the cruise.

I'm sure whatever cruise you do will be wonderful. We did a 3 night from Cyprus many many years ago to Egypt and Israel and I'm pretty sure that it was nowhere near the standards of the cruise ships these days but we thought it was fabulous.

We did a 3 night in 2004 and loved it - we are booked for a 7 night special next summer stopping at Tortola in British Virgin Islands along with St Thomas and Castaway Cay. I would suggest the 4 night if dates suit - we found on the three day we felt we hadn't really got the most out of the ship as we were in port every day. Also we were just getting used to where everything is and it was time to get off!

I have a request in for the rumoured European Disney Cruises in 2010. Someone on the cruise board found Disney Magic listed being in the port of Copenhagen every 12 nights in June and July 2010 so the thought is Baltic Cruises out of Southampton which would be perfect for us!

My hubby was 50 this year and we are doing a cruise for him!
That was all he wanted.
It is a hard life to keep him happy.

Personally I can think of nothing worse than a Disney ship full of British cruisers. We cruise Disney for the American environment, In all the cruises we have done we haven't come across another british family yet:cloud9: . If it sails from UK it would be like visiting Florida and staying on IDrive:rotfl: Sorry not for us but will suit others.
We are hoping they take one of ships upto Alaska sooner than later. They are on a list for a new licence from 2010, hope they get it.

Each to their own Wayne! We met a couple of other British families on our cruise who were very nice! I think dependent on how the American economy shapes up a northern European cruise will still attract a lot of US cruisers. In general Americans seem to love visiting countries with a lot of history and landmarks - it will just be the old airfare issue that they have to overcome (much like us cruising from Port Canaveral!!)

Regarding the Alaskan cruises - I will (funds permitting) be aiming to go on those but I very much doubt it will be in 2010. The permit for Glacier bay won't be decided until late on in 2009 and the 2010 cruises are supposedly going on sale in mid to late October. Also someone found a port listing scheduling the Disney Magic to be in port in Copenhagen in June and July 2010 much like when someone found the listing for Villefranche in 2007 - of course the Copenhagen listing has now been removed but on the cruise board they have screen shots! But Alaska will make a fantastic Disney Cruise sometime in the next few years I hope :)

Sorry that there is zero chance of bumping into you on a European Cruise but maybe on the Alaskan although we will be sure to fake an American twang to hide our Britishness! :rotfl:

Booking early also gets you a better room, we are happy with inside cabin as we are never in it but booking early has got us Secret porthole room on all but one cruise, these cabins you get a porthole with obstructed view but inside price.

Hi Wayne
Just working out finances to see if we can stretch to the Disney cruise. We can afford the Royal Caribbean one (£400 cheaper!) but would I think prefer the Disney one. How did you get the secret porthole room? Did they tell you when you booked or was it a surprise. Did you choose your own room or let them allocate it for you?

Cheers

We always book a long time in advance, choose cabin and they have been still available(except this last Easter). For next year I checked with DCL's site 1st then told Dreams Unlimted the cabin was available and I wanted it.
You have to look at prices for Cat 10 and then choose cabin, you are then looking for 5020, 5022, 5024, 5520, 5522, & 5524, all outside obstucted views.

Oh well, seem to be too late. They've all gone. Any other 'value for money' rooms you can recommend? Don't need anything luxurious as we'll only be sleeping in it, not spending all day in it.

No, sorry if they are not available then I just look at cabins available, look for deck with least cabins, try get near to exit rather than walking down a long corridor of cabin after cabin.
Hopefully you won't be in it long, we never are.

We feel just the same. :thumbsup2 We have heard the occasional British accent on our cruises but not many. And on the WB Repo in May we knew there were a few other British families from the DIS meet thread. But I wouldn't want to go on any cruise that was primarily British passengers.

There is a large US cruise line which seems to boast of its British officers and service in their UK brochure. It makes me want to run a mile! The last thing I want on holiday is atrocious British service! :scared1:

Totally agree too :)
I've not spoken to anyone I know who has been on a cruise, who has even thought of a Disney cruise, so hoping also for that "American atmosphere" :)

:goodvibes

We did the Transatlantic cruises Disney offered last year and I have to say there were a lot more Europeans and Brits in particular. Not sure if I liked the different atmosphere or not to be honest! Great cruises though!

Surprisingly even with their stint at port in Barcelona last year, according to the staff there wasn't an increase in Spanish tourists noticable above the overall European increase.

Weren't the Med cruises hardly advertised at all in Europe tho?
That's what i thought anyway

:goodvibes

I heard they were advertised in Spain a lot but not really elsewhere

I only heard about them through this site, so you could be right.

Are there any plans for one next year? May be tempted by one should i enjoy my first cruise next month (well, November) and a simple EasyJet to Barcelona would push prices down :)

:goodvibes
