Disney Cruise to Alaska

Has anyone heard if DCL is still talking about cruising to Alaska?

Everything I've read in terms of rumors for 2010 says no. Who knows though. We would love to go to Alaska. I have an itinerary already put together. We have looked at Royal Caribbean and Princess Alaska cruises as an alternative to Disney. Both seem quite nice with RC being a bit more kid friendly. Without the kids, I'd probably pick Princess though.

If this went through it would fall right into my plans. DBF and I have been in Interior Alaska (Denali) for the past 3months working a seasonal job, and we have no means to get to the coast. I saw the coast last year on a trip, but really want to return in the next 5years. We are moving to Florida in a little over a month and hope to work for Disney so it would be beneficial.

If I remember right. The Disney cruise ships (including the new ones ) aren't built to withstand the cold. So there won't be any Alaska cruises

A friend just sent me this article . . . Looks like Dis will be cruising Alaska after all!!

Disney among those seeking Glacier Bay contracts

22/8/2008

Disney Cruise Line is among six operators submitting proposals for 10-year Glacier Bay contracts, Seatrade Insider has learned. The term of the contracts is from 2010 through 2019.
Disney has never offered Alaska cruises, although Disney Magic has sailed from the U.S. West Coast for two seasons of Mexican Riviera cruises out of Los Angeles -- this year and in 2005.

In submitting its proposal to the National Park Service, Disney joined Compagnie des Iles du Ponant, Cruise West, Holland America Line, NCL Corp. and Princess Cruises.

French operator Ponant has not sought a Glacier Bay contract before. However, one of its ships, Le Diamant, used to sail in Alaska years ago as Song of Flower under a previous owner.

The contracts will include the initial allocation of a limited number of vessel use days in the peak Glacier Bay season, June through August, of each year of the contract term.

Princess and Holland America legally qualify as ‘historical operators’ in Glacier Bay, giving them the ability to lock up their existing historical permits, which number 71 of the total 153 available permits annually for the next 10-year contract period. Additionally, Princess holds 13 ‘preferential' entry permits.

All told, HAL and Princess have the potential to maintain 84 of the peak season entries of the total of 153 available.

Dave Nemeth, chief of concessions management for Glacier Bay National Park, said the National Park Service hopes to allocate the permits by year’s end.

This could be great ... my family has always talked about an Alaska cruise and since we don't plan on returning to WDW for a few years, this would be a great way to get a "Disney fix" and experience someplace new!

Please keep us posted if you learn more.

I hope this works out as I wanted to do another Alaska cruise in 2010 or 2011.

Alaksa is amazing, i'd totally love to do a Dis cruise next time up there!

We've always wanted to go on a Disney cruise, but we'd have to cross the ocean and the continent to get there (from Hawaii), and would rather spend the money to go to WDW. We've thought of the Mexico one too, but Alaska is higher up on our list to go on already. We've done an NCL around Hawaii (so fun), so we definitely are looking forward to this possibility- takes care of two trips in one!

2010 is definitely Northern Europe (someone found the berth schedule for the Copenhagen port and the Magic was listed for several dates in 2010). The current speculation is that since Disney has applied for Glacier Bay permits, the Alaska itinerary will be added in 2011+.

Oh I'm so excited about Alaska! I hope we're able to take one of those cruises!!!!!!!!!

So glad this is a rumour that came true - and even better that the departure/arrival port is in Canada! (We're already planning how we can fly to Vancouver, stay for a few days, take the cruise, then hope aboard The Canadian (cross-country train) and get dropped off about 40 minutes from home! (What a way to do a whole bunch of things we've always wanted to do at once!)

I cruised to Alaska from Seatle earlier this summer and went to Ketchikan, Juno, Skagway and Prince Rupert Island.

Now, the announces cruises have almost the same itenerary. I'm very excited about the possibilities. Now I just need to start saving!!

We have signed up to do the 2011 Alaska Disney cruise. This will be our third cruise on Disney. We have done the East and West Cribean and enjoed every trip.
