Disney Cruise Line Transfer Question

So much great information! We have a transfer booked from Port Orleans to the Dream in October. I will say, on a previous cruise on another line, we got to the port early to be one of the first people on the ship, and it was cool to be on the ship when its almost empty. I have heard of some people booking a one way car rental from Disney World to the cruise port - has anyone ever done that? I'd be somewhat tempted, just to go early, but I'm not sure if its worth the hassle.
Yes I've done this about 10 times. We are spending 2 nights at AKL pre cruise and 6 nights at Beach club post cruise. I'm picking up a car at the Dolphin the day before the cruise and dropping it off at the port. I'll be taking DCL transfers back to the Beach club. My rental is 40.00. I would have rented a car at MCO pre cruise, but for some reason car prices are sky high out of MCO that weekend. Most of the time car rentals are pretty cheap in Orlando. Alamo, Budget, Enterprise, and Avis have offices in Cape Canaveral. They will shuttle you to the port. I have rented from all of them.
