Disney Cruise Line to Add New Concierge Staterooms to Disney Magic

Since the Magic does the summer in Europe, the chances to book a cabana are already limited. Just a theory but as the Wish comes onboard, it might further reduce the number of visits the Magic does to Castaway Cay. Lighthouse point may have different/more opportunities for cabanas if that becomes a more regular stop for her so that even further convolutes the cabana discussion.

What is potentially more problematic is the lounge on the Magic. It seems it is the smallest of the lounges in the fleet. (We have not done concierge on the Wonder yet, as we had the San Juan to NOLA booked but had to postpone.) We did the WBTA this past falL on the Magic and at peak times the lounge could be full. A new “Disney island” helps with cabanas but there is not really a spot for more lounge. So either the lounge moves completely, another guest space get absorbed by the lounge, they just cram more people into that area or lounge access gets restricted. All of the options look like it impacts guest experience in some way, be it loss of guest areas by the non-concierge guest or impacts/changes on the concierge guest experience.

I agree. The Magic lounge can get very crowded now. I can't imagine what 12 more rooms will do to it if they don't increase the size. The Wonder lounge doesn't have any problem absorbing the extra passengers. It's at least three times as large as the lounge on the Magic and the sundeck is probably 10x-15x larger.

At least for us we aren't necessarily doing it for the room but for the other Concierge perks.

Same here. The room size doesn't matter to us. The 1-Bedroom Suites are nice but we find more value in the Category V rooms.

If I had to guess, they'll probably expand the space of the lounge by eating up some other guest area. We found the lounge on the Wonder to be plenty spacious and usually quite empty on our last cruise, with the exception of the sundeck which was packed on Endicott Arm day. This was after they took outdoor and upstairs space from Cove Cafe that had been available to all guests to expand the lounge.

Really, we have done Concierge on the Magic and I thought there were a good number. To me being able to have access to shoreside and get in requests ahead of time is very important (especially because always do a Cabana). The ease of embarkation and disembarkation is very important to my parents who also travel with us. And we use the lounge and the perks of the lounge (happy hour, popcorn, place to decompress) a great deal.

Really the only thing shoreside did for us was book Palo. Other than that I booked our Frozen/Princess tickets. We do our own excursions. And we weren't going to CC so no cabanas. Embarkation happened to be in NYC - it was delayed and in an awful small sitting area (I'm sure it's better at Port Canaveral). The lounge on board was small, but fine. We didn't take advantage of happy hour or popcorn. We did enjoy the private lunch when we boarded and also the private meeting with Donald Duck. Our 1 bedroom was amazing - and I did definitely noticed that you are treated differently when you're in concierge. I really wish that there had been a private pool for concierge as well as reserved show seating like on some other lines. Those are things we would have definitely enjoyed. If I got a great deal, I'd consider a 1 bedroom again but otherwise I'm fine with any type of room.

Okay then I get it. If you don't take advantage of the Happy Hour that can make a huge difference. We use shoreside for everything. But also we do Palo, Cabana, lots of alcohol tastings, meet n greets, BBB so for us it is a big help. I actually like the small lounge on Magic. Fantasy the lounge is enclosed which I don't love but there is an upper deck with a hot tub which is nice. For us it makes a lot of sense (also we travel with my parents who want as little hassle as possible) but I can understand for you why it might not make sense again.

We recently did our first concierge on the Magic and honestly, there were so few perks (and we knew that in advance) that I would have never booked the smallest room.

I have to agree with you about few perks especially compared to NCL Haven, RCCL Star and Sky class and MSC Yacht Club. We've been sailing in concierge suites on Disney since our first cruise on the Wonder in 2000. Disney was one of the first cruise lines to offer suites for 5 plus they had the Cat. R and S that accommodate 7 on classics. We have sailed most of our cruises in Cat. T and Cat. S suites. The perks have improved quite a bit especially after the launch of the Dream class ships. But, IMO, for the premium DCL is charging they could offer more. I'm really looking forward to seeing the evolution the the concierge experience on the new ships.

Since this thread is discussing the updates to the Magic, the concierge perks is not really keeping with the updates theme.

Trying to keep this on topic as much as possible. If you are factoring in perks, the lounge and all that it offers can be an important factor. That is why I fear that adding twelve cabins to concierge with the lounge “as is” could be impactful. So theorizing could there be changes to the lounge or its operation at dry dock also.

As for perks, within the DCL stateroom options, the concierge perks are nice and helpful. Comparing DCL concierge to other cruise lines and what they offer DCL lags, especially when you in factor cost. Our last cruise was back to DCL concierge after doing Star Class on Royal. While we enjoyed both the perks of DCL are not even close. I don’t want to go further down that rabbit hole, so just wrapping up saying that’s one perk could be impacted by additional rooms.

Sad, there are already so few rooms on the Magic for families of 5. Concierge sounds lovely but wowza the price.
As a family of 5, I’ve already been concerned that we wouldn’t be able to get a room on the Magic with so few Family Deluxes, and now this seems to limit us further.
