I am thinking about joing the Disney Vacation Club, and am gathering information. Can anyone give me information about how this program works with DCL, and how many points a 7 day cruise would Typically cost?

Thanks in advance for any advice or information.

It really depends on the time of year and the category of room you want. For 2004 an Eastern cruise starts at 123 points for the first two people in a category 11 room during the value season and goes up to 396 points during the holiday season for a category 4 room.

Lisa,

I know you have three in your group, as the $$ varies for each category, so does the points vary. If I knew what category you were in, I could give you the DVC point total.

Looking forward to meeting you at the Radisson, three months from today!!!

A LOT, unfortunately. An inside cabin for 2 for 7 days will generally run 260-426 depending on season. A family cabin for 5 with a verandah will raise it to the 486-790 range. These are 2003 numbers and those for 2004 are modestly higher overall. You would likely be better off buying less DVC points and paying cash for DCL since you have the opportunity to plan ahead. Still, it's nice to have options. The lower cabins tend to be more steeply discounted so the differential will be higher on those compared to the more expensive cabins which DCL tends to discount less. I hope this helps.

What one of the guides said on the 5/10 cruise is that a typical family needs to use about 2 years worth of points for a 7 day cruise. Also just a word of advice. If you are only looking at buying DVC to cruise you might be disappointed as the years go on. While points for stays at DVC resorts will stay the same for the life of DVC the same is not true for other resorts or DCL. Points have traditionally gone up every year. We've used points to cruise twice and paid cash the other three times. It is really up to you.
