According to this article: Niagara Falls tour operator contract DCL is one of the companies interested in conducting these tours. Sounds a little farfetched because it's certainly a very different kind of cruising than the cruise line presently does. It's also radically different than anything else Disney does. Other than name recognition it seems like most of the other companies discussed are much better suited for the operation.

HAHA...although I cannot discount the link you provided (I have neither experience with or motivation to research it), DCL wouldn't be interested in venturing into such a small operation, their expertise doesn't fit with the need either, and from a profit perspective, although the contract is lucrative, it's not in the $100 million + market needed to justify creating a company to handle this.

Having Niagara Falls pretty much in my back yard, I hardly see how Disney Cruise Line fits with Niagara Falls. Only thing you can do it take a 15 minute boat ride through the bottom of Niagara Falls...hardly a cruise...it's like taking one of the MK ferry rides, except you get a little wet.

thats an E-Ticket!!!!

wait, it won't go over the falls??? boring!

If Disney starts building a barrel-shaped ship perhaps it will.

I don't even really see this as an ABD trip because while I have been to Niagara Falls many times I don't see it as being enough of a draw to be part of and ABD trip. Perhaps a trans-Canadian trip but not a single destination.

But what if it is part of a bigger plan? what if they are planning to build another off site hotel resort in Niagara Falls?

Highly unlikely, although Niagara Falls is a great tourist location, the value proposition is too low in terms of the market available and it's limited use ability (tourism plummets in the winter). Coming from Central New York, I think it would be a huge leap to associate Disney with any sort of building/design, implementation, etc, outside NYC.

Makes sense if DCL sees this as a new market. The next step could be a cruise to compete with the Circle Line in NY. I don't know how many other cities offer similar opportunities.

:rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl: I always enjoy reading satirical local news websites like that one.

I'd love to see the back side of water at Niagra Falls.

Actually...you can! You can actually walk down to the bottom of the falls and stand on a deck and hear and feel the water coming down....pretty cool!

As far as the hotel thing, I seriously doubt it. The only nice part of Niagara Falls is the Canadian side of it. The American side of the falls is a dump....and that is no exaggeration. There is hardly anything here, and the Canadian side has certainly capitalized on their "natural resource"!

we live 10 minutes from niagara falls canada and 15 -20 thhe us side. I would love to see it happen but really i can't imagine. The us side isn't an area I like to visit..(i love the us don;t get me wrong) We sometimes stay at the casino on the us side but other than the SMALL aquarium there really isn't anything there....but a dvc may change that...here is too positive thinking :)

Hey, no offense from someone on the US side! It is a DUMP and I could never understand why the state, if not the federal government, did not do more to capitalize on the tourism in this area...that's pretty much like guaranteed money (or as close as guaranteed as you can get)!

Wanting to add to this rumor with a more historical context....

If I'm not mistaken, from the knowledge and general trivia that I have gained about WDW, Niagara Falls was a proposed site for WDW. I believe Walt was working with Robert Moses for touring through the site and seeing if it would be viable. As far as I know, Niagara Falls was one of the finalist sites, losing out because of the weather conditions here.

Lots of major cities have water tours, New York, Boston, Baltimore, Washington DC, New Orleans, Seattle, San Francisco, Chicago are ones I'm aware of but I'm sure there are more.

I'm also originally from Western New York and I find it hard to believe Disney seriously considered putting WDW there! The weather is obviously one major drawback but New York's tax structure is definitely another. Also land prices and availability are much more of a problem than they were in Central Florida. It sounds like this was probably more wishful thinking than fact much like many of today's rumors about new Parks.

I'm in the middle of reading some Disney history books. As it turns out, Niagra Falls sounds like it was third choice for WDW. St. Louis being #1 and Florida #2. According to "Married To The Mouse" Walt was doe to sign the papers to build in St. Louis, but at the celebratory dinner the night before the signing, he was insulted by one of the Busch (?) beer family members. Af far as Niagra goes, he seriously considered it, but the weather struck it down. He would only build a year round park.
