Disney Cruise Honeymoon, and an intro!

Hi there! Mostly I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself!

My fiance, Keith, and I will be getting married August 20, 2004. We spent a lot of this last (freezing cold!) week looking at all sorts of honeymoon options and though we vowed (no pun intended) we would not do it, we are thinking of a Disney honeymoon.

We're thinking of the land and sea option, 4 days at the AKL followed by 3 days at sea. We want to keep the cruise short, it will be a first time for both of us and Keith is quite the motion sick guy. Plus, we stayed at the AKL last February and loved it so much that we really want to have some time there. We are looking at some of the 7 day cruises, though.

Any comments/suggestions on the Disney cruise for a honeymoon? We looked at a number of other cruise lines, but the Disney cruise appealed to us based on the fact that we're not into gambling and things, and are generally just silly and it seemed like fun.

we also are researching honeymoons. we are thinking of the same type of cruise as you, SparkyC. while we have never been on a cruise either, we have had a couple friends who did the cruise for their honeymoon and spoke highly of it. in my opinion, you are combining the wonders of a cruise with the magic of disney, what could be better?

you may already be aware of this, but my friend mentioned this to me. don't be expecting lots of alone and romantic time during eating. you will be at a table with other couples (probably others honeymooning). i am fine with this, but it is something to think about.

So I guess that Disney isn't one of the cruise lines that offers a "table for 2" for honeymooners, then? I've looked at so many web sites in the past week that I've really lost track. I wouldn't mind talking with/meeting others though, and since we will have the verandah and room service, I think it will be nice either way.

Now, if I could only find a photographer and a DJ... Then I'd REALLY feel like I'd gotten some planning done!

we spent 1 week of our honeymoon last May on a 7 day Disney cruise..amd loved every minute of it! We were seated at dinner with 2 other honeymoon couples which was lovely...we also did Palo for dinner one night, which was romantic and very special. Its lovely to be able to dress up nicely on your honeymoon too!

We also spent a very peaceful romantic day at Castway Cay, and did the surial bath experience in the spa on the Magic

We found there was plenty of space to be quiet and romantic, for adults only...the cocktail lounge in the evenings, the adult only pool, and the wuieter decks for just lazing the days away.....

We too are doing the land/sea option. We are doing the 3 nite resort and 4 nite cruise. First timers also. We will be going the week of 4th of july. Wedding is June 26th!!!

I just want to congratulate everyone on their upcoming weddings!!

My DH and I just got married in October, and we took the 4 night Disney cruise for a honeymoon. He had never even seen the ocean let alone gone on a cruise, so he was a little apprehensive about it- trust me, you will LOVE every minute.

If I may make a few suggestions:

1- If you absolutely have your heart set on dining solo, you can make a request when you book your stateroom. However, they will probably tell you that seating at dinner is typically for four, but they'll make a note on your reservation. When we found out that we not only weren't dining by ourselves, we were seated w/ EIGHT other honeymoon couples, we went straight to the restaurant manager(ask for him at the host stand of the restaurant that's first on your rotation) and asked him if there was a possibility of eating on our own. He immediately sat us at a table for just the two of us. I will also suggest this, however: if you're not apprehensive about strangers (like we are) eat with the other couple(s). Our table for two was directly behind the 10 seater, and those couples seemed so nice and friendly, I think my only regret is not eating w/ them.

2- Request the 8:30 dining. I've sailed twice, first time my family and I ate at the 6:30 seating. This time we ate @ 8:30- It was much more relaxing.

3- If you want to dine at Palo or make reservations for the spa, my suggestion would be to split up as soon as you get on the ship. One go to the stateroom to make any drop-offs (carry on luggage, etc.) or to make spa reservations, the other make Palo reservations. Both fill up very quickly, and Palo was one of the best dining experiences we've had.

4- I recommend Bonine vs. Dramamine. Bonine doesn't make you drowsy- take it 2 hours before the ship sails. The ship passes over the gulf stream on the first night, making it the roughest. Unless there is a storm, you barely feel the movement of the ship. We went through a small squall (our cabin was on the 2nd deck, the waves were hitting our porthole!!) but I didn't feel a thing. Or, stay up toward the higher decks (5, 6, etc.).

5- Don't pass up the stage shows! My DH didn't want to see Hercules the MUSEical, but I forced him and it was his favorite show.

6- Make the most of the photographers roaming the ship. Shutters offers a package on their photos and these are some of our favorite pictures.

7- Now pay very close attention, this one is VERY important: RELAX AND ENJOY. You're on your honeymoon, and there's CMs ready to jump at your slightest glance. Live it up, and take plenty of film for your cameras- there's a Disney suprise around every corner!!

Angie those were great tips - my FH and I are cruising for our honeymoon. We did the 4-day Wonder last May and we're doing the 7-day Eastern on the Magic for the honeymoon. I would have to agree with all the tips and I think we're gonna sign up for a photo package this trip. I sooo cannot wait

My fiance and I are also doing the 3 day cruise. Since he is a DVC member, we are staying at Disney for a week but then wanted to go and relax on an island. While talking to a travel agent we got very frustrated with the prices of an island stay for only a few days. She asked us if we thought about a cruise, which we hadn't. She went on and on about the Disney cruise and how it is the best! We are so excited, especially since this will be the first time either of us have been on one.

We are looking into the "romance package" which is $300 extra, but you get a couples massage, priority seating at Palo's, breakfast in bed, champagne and a few other treats! I cannot wait! This is going to be the best week!!

I was a little nervous about too many kids, but I have talked with a few people who have gone on the cruise and they said that is not the case since you have your own room and the adult only areas.
