Hi everyone! Here's the letter Mike just wrote to DCL.

To whom it may concern,

I am writing you this letter regarding our last cruise(s), we did a back to back starting 9/11/2011-9/18/2011 on the Disney Dream. My now wife and I actually got married on the first sailing (9/11/11-9/15/11), then took a honey moon cruise on the second sailing (9/15/11-9/18/11). We were looking forward to the Perfect fairytale wedding as we planned for the past couple of years, especially for the fact that Disney cruise line has been a major part of her life (this being her parents 16th Disney cruise who also attended the wedding). It started great and as anticipated, however, during the wedding, the wedding coordinator forgot to give Shannon her flowers for the ceremony (Not sure what the price of those were, but we did not have them until after the ceremony was completed), and also forgot to give the rings to the ring bearer, we actually had to stop the ceremony and get the ring pillow from the other room. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think those 2 items rank pretty high on the important scale. After the ceremony was over, we were promised to have the top part of the cake for dessert at dinner that night, along with the cake topper for a keepsake. Neither one of those happened. I called Tom (the wedding coordinator) the next day, and he said he would take care of it and have it the following night for us, and also told out Head waiter (Raul) and he said he would personally address this. Both of them absolutely dropped the ball and the cake or the topper was never to be seen again. I know we were close to the Bermuda triangle, but really? How do you lose the cake and the topper. Not even on our second sailing was it ever found. This being my personal first Disney sailing, I am not impressed, not to mention on her wedding day all of these mistakes were made. I'm not sure what/if there is anything you can do to attempt to rectify this, or to hopefully prevent this happening to another couple that is spending $2500.00 extra for this "Fairytale wedding", but I thought I would write this to inform you on how disappointed we were for the money that was spent and the promises that were made.

Thank you,
Mike Kapis

We still had an amazing time. Lee, our photographer was awsome! We also had and amazing server, Andre. This made up for a lot of the horrible mistakes.

I know the rings and flowers should have bothered me the most. Really it made for some great pictures because we forgot too until we were standing in front of Capt. Henry.:rotfl2: Which was also really neat that Capt. Henry actually married us. That doesn't happen too often.

The cake on the other hand really bothered me.
1. It was very delicious, I wanted another piece!
2. We were planning on continuing the celebration with our guests.
3. They promised it the next 2 nights and still never saw it. When we talked to Tom the last night he apologized and said he had no idea where the cake went.:confused3 We got a new topper to take home, but it wasn't the one originally on the cake. Which we are using for our reception at home.

Anyways all in all I'm still glad we chose DCL for our wedding and had an amazing time!

Now to plan our reception for Saturday! I'll try to post some pictures if I can figure it out!:lmao:

Me again. lol I think the missing cake bothers me more than the other things.:confused3 How do you lose a cake and topper? At least the flowers and rings were right there. We really don't know if that was Tom's fault or the restaurant's fault. However, Tom promised another cake to make up for it and didn't follow through. That is what disturbs me so I will blame him.

Just had a thought...I wonder if the cake ended up in Palo as most couples go there for dinner after the ceremony? Shannon and Mike chose to eat dinner with their guests in our normal restaurant rotation. Again, not our job to track down the cake and topper. You would think that Tom would know to check with Palo. Again, his job, not ours.

Oh yeah mom, I forgot to tell you. It was delivered to AP. We happened to run into the person who delivered it while we were looking at our pictures.

wow..I can't believe they lost the cake!! Ours showed up for us the next night PLUS the head waiter had another "Congratulations" cake for us too..I hope they get back to you soon...Did you copy Cindy Garber at DFTW?

No, I didn't do that. I think I will do that tonight. I haven't heard back from them yet.

I hate to say this but I doubt they misplaced the cake or they would have been able to figure out where it was and had it delivered even if late.

What happened sounds more like what happened at bffs wedding. They served her cake infront of everyone and had an entire two layers untouched. They were supposed to seperate the top and have it packaged for her to take and leave the middle in a box for her family to take home. When her mother went to collect her cake half of the top layer was left. They actually cut into the top layer. They claimed to have served it to guests but her mother and I were there when they were taking it away and specifically asked for them to wrap the middle and top layer. those two layers were intact when we went to speak to them. There was even at least 1/3 of the lower layer left after the guests had been served. She bought a big cake. It was supposed to serve 120 people and her guest list was around 30 but she wanted the big gourgous cake. The caterers served the cake to the staff and I still don't get it because they ate more cake then the guests did and actually had the face to lie about it. Most likely this is what happened to her cake. I just can't see any other way that a cake disapears.

I just can't see the staff eating the cake, I mean their are basically three weddings a cruise...I highly doubt they had their eye on "your" cake...it sounds like an error, a pretty big error and I would hope Disney corrects it for you!

On the otherhand glad to hear the rest of the wedding was nice...:lovestruc

Ok lets clarify It wasn't "my" cake (as per poster above) it was another poster's cake (please read the posts) but if they staff didn't eat it then they threw it out. There is no way that if the cake was still around a few phone calls wouldn't have found it. As for my friends wedding the staff ate her cake we saw how much cake was left when it went into the kitchen and it was torn apart and only half the topper was left. When her mother went to pick up the cake at the end of the wedding. This was at a very well established high end hotel in Boston so I don't doubt that it would happen on a cruise either.

Your photos were absolutely gorgeous, Shannon!! You both look so happy!
I know you had some hiccups on your wedding day, which is annoying, but they'll make a good story to laugh about in the future. Thanks so much for sharing with everyone! :goodvibes

Oh let me clarify I didn't mean your cake I mean any of us cruisers who are getting married I doubt they want our cake, a better explanation to me is they threw it out, by mistake. There are too many wedding cakes, three on each cruise, for the staff to make a decision they want a particular cake on the cruise...just does not make sense.

I don't think that the staff normally see much of the cakes and I know that I have read on here before that people gave left over cake to the crew and they were very moved and excited about this.

Having said that, I don't think that anybody would take cake without being given it as they would be sure to lose their job if they did and it was noticed.

Had my dress fitting to have the bustle done....the dress is gorgeous and I cannot wait for our wedding...35 days away for us!!!!

I don't know about the cruise staff but my daughter had a Make a Wish trip to Disney. We had our first breakfast at Akerhus in Epcot and I ordered a special cake to celebrate. Since it was breakfast, and breakfast was so yummy, we had a lot of cake left!

We asked if they could keep it in the fridge until the end of the day. The chef himself came out and told us that if we left a partially eaten cake in the fridge, the staff would eat it! I thought he was kidding but he assured us he was very serious. He said it would never last the day. He offered to give us a brand new cake that would be available at the end of the day. We took him up on that, that cake was super yummy :goodvibes

Anyway, just saying you might be surprised about who is eating the cake!

I just think some people are making some of the staff out to be malicious or something...which I highly doubt is it. Plus on a cruise they are under much scrutiny, I don't think they want to lose their job over eating a piece of cake...

Beautiful photos Shannon!!!!!

Sorry about the cake, we actually gave ours to the staff because we knew there was just no way we were going to eat that much....even though it was incredibly yummy!!
