Never in recent years have we seen so many WDW commercials. In the past 2 hours alone (Dallas Seeason Finale!!) 6 WDW commercials have aired promoting the summer discounts.

I noticed that earlier today, too! Up until just recently I RARELY saw Disney commercials. Now I see at least one during almost every show I watch!

Me and my kids were commenting on how many commercials there are. It actually made me wonder if reservations were down, because there have been so many?

I have a tivo and rarely watch commercials. Almost 20 minutes of commercials during an hour long prime time show.

This is the time of year when families finalize their vacations for the summer and even for holiday time. Disney may also see the need to run ads to counter Universal ads. Disney has a lot of expensive hotel rooms to fill.

Its just the time of year many people start planning (or finish planning) their summer so they beef up their ad buys. After Memorial Day, you won't see any until they start marketing for Halloween.

I've noticed the commercials since January when we booked our trip. Couldn't tell whether I had disney on the brain.....or if they were just new and increased traffic. Glad I'm not going nuts.

Disney wouldn't spend money running ads unless they needed to.

I always get them when I'm watching Hulu. I've wondered if they somehow pull the data of websites I visit while watching Hulu.... /tinfoilhat

Actually, they'll only do it, if they think they'll see a return on it. Many economic indicators show that vacation spending is going up, and I'm sure they want to get their share of the pie. It's not a sign of hurting.

When deep discounting happens in conjunction of a huge spending on additional media marketing, then you know they are hurting. When you see discounts on peak times, that's when they are hosed. To me it looks like discounts are being restricted to the slowest crowd times.
I'd expect to see crazy crowds for the summer compared to the last few years.

I disagree. Discounts have not been above 30% for the last couple of years I believe and media marketing is definitely up.

What time periods are you seeing this 30%? Off peak times or peak?

US travel and tourism is up significantly from last year.

Edit:
After looking at the website, I see 30% only for the select deluxe level resorts. 20% for moderate and 15% for value. It is for peak times, but reservations are limited to middle of June for that promo(for booking during june, july and august). If you see them extend that promo where it can be purchased on a whim in late June, July and August, then I'd concede a problem.

30% off your largest margin properties isn't that deep of a discount for the industry. You can always get 10-15% off without much of a fuss.

Disney is just spending some of the money they are saving by cutting back on promo's like Free dining on ad buys. It's actually probably cheaper. ;)

They milk the commercials for a long time, also. Over 2 years ago my dd was an extra in a set of commercials filmed in the parks-- the ones featuring the hispanic family in the yellow shirts and the black family in the green shirts, selling the value family 5 day trip. I think they still use them. So at this point the ads are probably cheaper than the promos.

Same here ! i have never really seen Universal commercials before but now i am seeing them more and more.

Doesn't really surprise me.

GE and the GE/Blackstone partnership that was the Universal Orlando resort didn't really invest a whole lot in the parks. Since ownership changed to Comcast however, They've been investing a ton of money in the parks. In a lot of ways, that advertising is just another aspect of their investing in the parks since it's something that help generate the return on all the investments being made.
