Disney Commercials (Excessive)

Doesn't really surprise me.

GE and the GE/Blackstone partnership that was the Universal Orlando resort didn't really invest a whole lot in the parks. Since ownership changed to Comcast however, They've been investing a ton of money in the parks. In a lot of ways, that advertising is just another aspect of their investing in the parks since it's something that help generate the return on all the investments being made.

So, if I'm reading this thread correctly -

Disney spending on ads for WDW means they are hurting.

Comcast spending on ads for Universal is an investment.

Got it.

Naaaa.....

At least, not as I see it.

Advertising costs... Promos & Freebies.... They are all ultimately the same thing, Money being spent by marketting to get people to visit. I see it simply as Disney deciding that they can get a better return on that advertising investment by moving more of their marketting money towards ad buys from the "free Dining" and other crazy promos and discounts they've been offering over the past several years.

If anything, I'd actually say it was a sign of Disney having faith in the improved economy and the belief they can get more customers willing to spend the $$$ to visit their properties without needing to resort to the heavy discounts they've used for the past several years.
